### 2/5 — Too simplistic

*2025-08-15, version 16.0.2*

I thought this app would allow for more than just the first 5 questions- it doesn’t go into any other income like rental income
E, etc.
Deductions also, pretty simplistic -

### 3/5 — It used to work really good

*2025-08-04, version 16.0.2*

I use this app All the time and it was always accurate But now there’s an issue with the dividend income calculation, it’s being calculated as ordinary income, i’m surprised the developers haven’t taken notice and fixed this very obvious issue.

### 2/5 — Incorrect Tax %

*2025-02-01, version 16.0.2*

The actual tax % is different than the actual turbotax filing. On taxcaster based on my info it used a 12% tax rate versus a 13.8% when actually filing. So Taxcaster projects a higher return than what is actually available.

### 2/5 — Incorrect information

*2025-02-01, version 16.0.2*

HOH SD is not $16,100 with 2 child dependent ($22,500) and the Childcare payments are not subtracting from the tax liability.

### 4/5 — Total Federal Tax in Review

*2024-12-21*

In addition to the dividend issue it also seems to be not properly recording the total federal tax in the review section. I am guessing the total tax due is accurate?

My work around for qualified dividends is to add them to long term capital gains. Always had to add non qualified dividends to the interest section anyway but maybe next year you could add another line to enter them?

### 1/5 — 2024 App version for iPhone is flawed

*2024-12-17*

The 2024 App version for iPhone that just came out 3 days ago is clearly flawed as it is not pulling all the income fields for the AGI. For example, dividends are not counted as income, regardless of their taxability. When my iPhone updated from the 2023 to the 2024 version the total income reflected went down significantly. I couldn’t find a way to provide this feedback to the App developer so I am writing this review. The regular online version (not the phone App) works fine.

### 1/5 — Update broken

*2024-12-15, version 16.0*

The 2024 update doesn’t work. I put in four categories of income, and it does not include all of them in telling my total income and tax liability. In addition, it’s very difficult to enter data in certain fields. You can only enter one digit, or cut and paste multi digit amounts into the field. But you can’t enterany quantity greater than nine dollars by typing it in directly.

### 1/5 — Dec update 2024 👎🏻

*2024-12-14, version 16.0*

Update is giving completely wrong numbers! Hope it is fixed soon!!

### 1/5 — Incorrect tax refund

*2024-12-14, version 16.0*

Used the app for years with no issues. Updated the app with the 2024 tax year data and my refund is almost the same as my withholding amount. Not accurate at all. Wish it was correct.

### 1/5 — All sparkling new 2024 edition: dividends

*2024-12-14, version 16.0*

Glaring error in just released 2024 edition: I could enter $1 or $1,000,000 for dividends, and that wouldn’t change my taxes a bit, dividends are not counted as income anymore. Clearly a bug, but this app doesn’t offer a way to report it. Don’t know what else could be wrong. I should trust them doing my taxes?

### 1/5 — Update to 2024 edition please

*2024-12-12, version 15.0*

Great app and accurate.. but giving it 1 star since it’s already December 2024 and it’s still on the 2023 edition. Will edit to 5 stars once updated.

### 2/5 — Update App sooner

*2024-12-09, version 15.0*

Love tax caster, but it’s December 2024 and the software is still on 20203.

### 4/5 — 2024 option?

*2024-12-05, version 15.0*

App over all is great still waiting on a 2024 option.

### 1/5 — Very poor estimator

*2024-12-03, version 15.0*

It does not distinguish qualified dividends, and other income that is taxed differently. The tax brackets are wrong. Its made to make you think turbo tax saved you a bundle.

### 4/5 — 2024?

*2024-11-07*

This is a great app - it would be great if it was updated with the current year’s tax rules much earlier to be able to use it to project tax withholdings and potential tax obligations. We are now nearly at the end of 2024 and it still has 2023 tax rules.

### 1/5 — Why

*2024-08-26, version 15.0*

Why make this? To practice? It gives you an estimate on the other app atleast make everything transfer to other app. And was off by $1,000

### 1/5 — Poor

*2024-08-06, version 15.0*

Doesn’t Calculate your state tax

### 1/5 — Just say No to AI

*2024-07-12, version 15.0*

Intuit is all in on the AI-hype train, firing people gleefully.

TaxFreeUSA is better, cheaper, and isn’t lobbying the government to prevent free or cheap filings.

### 3/5 — SS taxes not included

*2024-03-12, version 15.0*

For most regular people, taxes are taxes. Tax Caster does not include Social Security taxes in it's calculations, so ordinary tax payers may be surprised once they do their real taxes. I think this is a miss. Another miss is not including hone sales in the estimations, as this event is likely to happen for 65 percent of the population at some point.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Web version is useless

*2025-09-22, version 16.0.7*

I was using 2024 TaxCaster app to estimate my 2025 taxes. Now I have lost that at a critical time. Please restore the app. The web version is useless as is.

### 1/5 — 2024 qualified dividends taxed as ordinary income!!

*2025-09-05*

Such a shame. I’ve been using this app for over a decade and it was great. Now, calculations are wrong, with the tax grossly overestimated. As of 15 April 2025 (tax day!!!) it was not corrected in spite of several recent one star reviews and being the end of the tax filing season. For example, 2024 tax on qualified dividends is being taxed as ordinary income!. The online version of TaxCaster shows completely different results compared to this iPhone App, after entering identical numbers. If this is happening with their estimating tool, how can we trust TurboTax to be accurate when we actually file our taxes?.
The App now (5 Sep 2025) states that it will go away in mid September 2025 directing users to the online version, where you need to re-enter all your numbers each time you use it, and changes don’t update the results in real time. Really disappointing after decades of use that, instead of fixing the App to the way it used to work well, TurboTax now decided to discontinue it! Such a shame. I anticipate they will be losing many loyal long-standing costumers.

### 1/5 — 2024 qualified dividends taxed as ordinary income!!

*2025-03-25*

Such a shame. I’ve been using this app for over a decade and it was great. Now, calculations are grossly wrong. As of today, March 2025, it has not been corrected in spite of several recent one star reviews and being almost at the end of the tax filing season. For example, 2024 tax on qualified dividends is incorrectly taxed as ordinary income, while the instructions for that field state to enter only qualified dividends. First, dividends were not included in AGI. Basic calculations in the summary page are also wrong. The online version of TaxCaster shows completely different results compared to this iPhone App, after entering identical numbers. ### 1/5 — 2024 qualified dividends taxed as ordinary income!!

*2025-02-03, version 16.0.2*

Such a shame. I’ve been using this app for over a decade and it was great. Now, most calculations are grossly wrong. As of today, February 3 2025, it has not been corrected in spite of several recent one star reviews. For example, 2024 tax on qualified dividends is incorrectly taxed as ordinary income, while the instructions for that field state to enter only qualified dividends. First, dividends were not included in AGI. Now they are but the tax on them is grossly overestimated. Basic calculations in the summary page are also wrong. The online version of TaxCaster shows completely different results compared to this iPhone App, after entering identical numbers. This did not occur in previous years. Hoping the developers get this feedback so that they fix all these bugs before deploying again this 2024 tax version, now that tax filing season has started. ### 1/5 — Tax calculator

*2025-01-09, version 16.0.2*

Tax calculations for 2024 are materially different from AARP calculations AND IRS worksheet(Qualified Dividends and Capital Gains Worksheet)

### 1/5 — Is this a joke?

*2025-01-07, version 16.0.2*

Do you perform any testing on these updates? Your math is wrong. ‘Total Federal Tax’ - ‘Payments/Withholdings’ = ‘XXX (Wrong Value)’

### 1/5 — 2024 App qualified dividends are being taxed as ordinary income!!

*2024-12-26*

As of today, December 26, the tax on dividends is incorrect as it assumes it is all non-qualified dividends, while the instructions for that field state to enter only qualified dividends. First the dividends were not being pulled for AGI and now they pull but the tax on them is grossly overestimated. These problems did not occur in previous years. Hoping the developers get this feedback so that they fix all these bugs before deploying the current version.

### 1/5 — Recent update is not calculating correctly

*2024-12-23, version 16.0*

Please fix the 2024 update.

### 1/5 — Dividend income causing taxes to go down

*2024-12-19*

This has been an amazing 5 star app for over a decade. I have referred it to many of my friends. HOWEVER- the 1 star review is just my attempt to alert the developers that the most recent version has a SERIOUS ISSUE with respect to handling of dividend income. The more dividend income I put in the lower my taxes become. I’m not sure which “update” caused this blow but it seems to be a very recent issue. I have relied on this app to estimate my taxes for the past 10+ years and it has been absolutely amazing. I would happily pay for this app if it is working properly. It’s that good. But right now it has a SERIOUS ISSUE and this appears to be with how it is handling dividend income. The more dividend income I report the lower my taxes become. Developers PLEASE FIX THIS bizarre bug and thank you for what has been an incredible app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Quick and accurate

*2025-02-19*

Love the app! It has always been on point and matched to what I am actually getting back and it only takes 2 minutes to do. Easy and reliable for those who do the easy form and want to know what they are getting back ahead of time.

### 5/5 — Calculation error need to be fixed

### 5/5 — Is TaxCaster for 2021 being developed?

*2021-11-01, version 12.1*

Is TaxCaster for 2021 being developed? Or do we just have to wait for turbo tax 2021?

### 5/5 — Great for playing w/numbers

*2019-12-30, version 11.1*

Needed to see how capital gains affected my taxes. Estimated other income then I could play with the Capital Gains and watch the refund change. I knew in advance what I needed. Perfect for my needs.

### 5/5 — Fabulous app

*2018-03-14*

This is an excellent app. I wanted to find out my taxes would be for 2018 vs. 2017. Especially with the new tax reform. It is hard to believe, but it took me less than a few minutes to make the calculations . I highly recommend this app from intuit!

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2018-03-02*

I’ve used this app for years and I find it very useful in planning my taxes. The numbers are always very good estimates. In one occasion, regarding 2018 changes, they immediately responded to my email and provided an excellent explanation. I am a satisfied customer.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2018-01-19, version 9.1*

This app is GREAT for anticipating your federal income tax owed/estimated return.

I love that they put the “looking at 2018” estimate on hear as well. You can see home the new tax bill will affect your bottom line next year.

Please keep this app updated and free.

### 5/5 — Keeps crashing - FIXED

*2018-01-18, version 9.1*

Works like a charm now. Was able to show people how much they might be getting back from Taxes.
