Note - States are slow to update their tax brackets. If current-year state brackets are unavailable, prior-year brackets will be used until the state issues current-year brackets.

Federal calculations include:
- Ordinary federal income tax.
- Long-term capital gain tax.
- FICA tax.
- Self-employment tax.
- Self-employment tax deduction.
- Additional Medicare (Self-employment only).
- Qualified business income deduction with threshold & phaseout.
- Net investment income tax.
- Taxable portion of Social Security Income.
- Child tax credit with phase-out.
- Earned Income Tax Credit with phase-in & phase-out.
- Standard deduction (including Age & Blind increase - Federal Only).
- Displays marginal tax rate.
- Ability to manually add certain adjustments.
- Ability to run withholding/estimated tax payment projections.

State calculations include:
- Ordinary state income tax.
- Self-Employment Tax Deduction add-back - PA.
- Standard deduction, personal exemption, dependent exemption (does not include phaseout, but a few states do not calculate these based on a low-income phaseout).
- Federal QBI Deduction - CO, ID, & ND.
- Taxable portion of Social Security Income state subtraction, if applicable in your state.
- Displays marginal tax rate.
- Ability to manually add certain adjustments.
- Ability to run withholding/estimated tax payment projections.
- Taxes Suck on most states calculates tax on state taxable income at ordinary state tax rates. This should overestimate taxes due if your state has favorable rates on certain types of income.
- I plan to add a more complete calculation for state income tax in the future, but I wanted to get the app released sooner rather than later, and I believe it gives a reasonable estimate for most people in its current build.

### 3/5 — Non-refundable credits not being applied to Other Taxes!!

*2026-05-28, version 4.0.1*

Non-refundable credits such as the child tax credit are only being applied to the regular income tax BEFORE Other Taxes, such as excess APTC repayment, are added. This is incorrect for Form 1040. This results in a portion of the non-refundable credit being wasted/lost if the credit doesn’t fully offset the regular tax, resulting in taxes owed due to the Other Taxes which should have been offset by the remainder of the non-refundable credits after all taxes are added.

### 5/5 — Wonderful Tool

*2026-03-14, version 4.0.1*

No ads, clean and simple layout, helpful content in-app. While paying taxes sucks, this app does not!

Suggestion for a future release would be the ability to populate and save multiple estimates (or export the current estimate) for easier comparison of different tax scenarios.

That said, I paid for the app and will continue to support it going forward!

### 4/5 — Ejinkonye

*2026-01-28, version 4.0.0*

There is a message that keeps popping up for donations. I gave a 3.99 donation. It’s still present.

### 5/5 — Useful, confusing estimates part

*2025-03-24, version 3.0.3*

I found this app very useful to get a quick overview of my tax situation, it’s easy to use and includes helpful tips.

The one aspect I found confusing is the field “Projected Federal Tax Withholding” - I had expected that exactly this field is the output of the analysis: where am I projected to land and is this sufficient, based on my income details, tax status, and perhaps ability to enter additional withholding per paycheck. I’ve done the math myself, but would find it more intuitive if it calculated it for me.

### 4/5 — Okay, if you don’t itemize. Tax caster better.

*2025-03-24, version 3.0.3*

Okay, if you don’t itemize. Tax caster better

### 5/5 — Test

*2024-10-08, version 2.3.1*

I like it. I will upgrade to purchased app. Thanks

### 1/5 — Ss tax and Medicare.

*2024-07-24, version 2.3.1*

What I don’t have to pay this now. I’m a Independent Contractor, I’m trying to figure out what I need to pay the IRS quarterly. I need to put money aside.

### 5/5 — OUTSTANDING TAX AP!

*2024-02-29*

What a fantastic easy to use app to calculate taxes. Spot on.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the kind words 😊

### 3/5 — Product not found message

*2024-02-15, version 2.2.0*

Attempting 3.99 purchase generated product not found message.

### 5/5 — Simple and Concise Tax app

*2023-12-09, version 1.11.0*

This is a great tax planning tool. Easy to use and up to date. One suggestion would be a Landscape view for IPad. A+

Update: Landscape added!! Many thanks for the quick response.
