The tax professional I was originally assigned simply stopped responding to my messages after introducing themselves, and I had to contact customer service to see what was going on. They apologized (but didn’t explain) and reassigned me to someone who took about three to four days to answer simple questions. And to be clear, the messages these people weren’t responding to were things like “Hi, nice to meet you! Should I include X form?” and “can please you explain what this term means?” Nothing demanding or rude. The second person did file my taxes, but made several mistakes and at one point said “I think this is probably fine. We’ll see.” For the convenience, I decided to use the app again this year. Once again whoever is preparing my taxes doesn’t answer questions in a timely way. For $200+, I expect some bare minimum level of service. I also don’t appreciate entrusting my most sensitive person data to a company that doesn’t explain why my first tax preparer took a look at my documents and then seemingly dropped off the face of the earth. The app also seems prone to lagging and occasionally refuses to allow text to be inputted in the chat field. ### 1/5 — IRS trouble from Taxfyle *2020-03-11, version 14.0* I used this for my 2018 taxes. Long story short they filed my taxes wrong and now the IRS has been on my A for almost a year threatening to take my paychecks. I send them payments and everyone I talked to says what’s going on is not taxable. I don’t want to get into it, but it’s a complicated subsidized rent issue at an employers request. It’s not something that’s taxable and there isn’t even a W2 for it. But somehow I’ve been charged 2K for paying less rent at my employers request.. I’m writing this at H&R Block, and I’ve been to the IRS office, nobody can seem to figure it out. Even H&R is having trouble with this one and doesn’t know what to do. Taxfyle said they could do an amended return but the only way to talk to someone is to refile every time to get on the live chat which takes forever. The guys on there are cool, but you get a different guy every time. One of those guys messed my taxes up, did something wrong. My ex threw away all my paperwork from last year. So I have to refile for 2019, let the IRS take my return and charge me an additional amount. Then wait for a copy of my 2018 taxes to be sent to my old address, be rerouted through my other old addresses, then forwarded to my current address (IRS will only send you information to where it originally came from.. Keep stolen money much?) so hopefully I get the information, then H&R can look at it and sort it out. But I’ve got the IRS breathing down my neck and attempting to bring me to court and take my money because someone on Taxfyle messed my information up. Don’t use it. ### 1/5 — Wouldn’t recommend at all *2019-11-20, version 2.28* They are a bunch of inexperienced people. I filed my 2018 tax by them and ended up paying hundreds in fine because they can even file it right. Also chat on my laptop doesn’t match chat on my app, not very reassuring that the professional on the other end is receiving my communication... ### 1/5 — Inexperienced professionals *2019-04-02, version 2.17* Stay away from this...Inexperienced professionals, I had my taxes done in 2016 and so far I received two assessments because of not filing them correctly. ### 1/5 — Do NOT Use This Service *2019-03-13, version 2.17* This app seemed like a convenient way to do taxes for someone with a busy schedule who doesn’t have a lot of time to visit a live CPA. I was quickly charged $15 and matched up with a “CPA” and prompted to upload my tax documents. Without even asking any questions (like CPAs are trained to do), this person pencil whipped my tax documents. He failed to put me as head of household and didn’t even ask if I had any dependants. I had to prompt him to do this by asking questions. Suddenly, his response times became really long. Being frustrated, I got my own CPA that wasn’t 4500 miles away and did my taxes quickly and correctly. I messaged Taxfyle support about this, and as an apology, they offered me 50% off to make up for the bad experience. So a total of $75 for essentially pencil whipping my tax form based off my W2, which I could have done at home. I was unhappy with this, so they then decided to charge me $110 to close my file with them. Had they had a qualified CPA that was willing to put in more than 2 minutes of work to get the correct refund, I would have been fine paying. Basically, the guy copied my W2 into a form, included some incorrect information, and then became unresponsive, and charged me $110 for it, and now I have to send screenshots to my bank so they can reverse the charge. ### 1/5 — Dishonest pricing *2019-02-18, version 2.15.1* They quoted one price, then halfway through after your deposit is paid, asked for additional fees. I will be looking elsewhere to get my taxes done this year, what a joke, greedy ppl! ### 1/5 — Do Not Use *2024-03-26, version 79.0* So I used Taxfyle for several years, and I thought they were OK. Mostly just for convenience. Then last year when I tried to do my taxes with them the senior CPA that was assigned to my file she didn’t seem to know that California was not required to file a return until October. She proceeded to argue with me. That was my first red flag. Second red flag was that she didn’t put in any deductions that I should’ve gotten and we owed over $15,000 in federal taxes when I did it on TurboTax, we had a refund of $15,000 that is a $30,000 tax bill difference. So I brought it up to her Superior and they went ahead and looked at my taxes and said oh we understand you are correct however, you still have to pay since she did your taxes even though you’re not using her to file them they wanted over $1000 even though she did my taxes incorrectly. Now they closed my file and I cannot access any of my previous years with them. This is outrageous plus had I not hired a professional at Turbotaz I never would’ve known that the CPA totally screwed me. I do not recommend them. ### 1/5 — 1 star for terrible signing *2022-03-21, version 51.0* This is one of the most terrible UI/UX I have seen. Have you guys tried to sign any document using it? I spent half a day trying to create signature, apply it and find all the places where I should do that. I finally had to print it sign it and scan it back (hello early 2000s). While the guys who did my tax return was good, I will never use your app again just because of the amount frustration I have now. ### 1/5 — If zero stars was an option, I would have selected it. *2022-03-03, version 51.0* What a hot mess this experience was. The pro assigned came in guns with instructions to upload my docs. There was no discussion or review. He just went and created forms without any consultation or discussion. He missed one of my W2s and because I reduced my work hours and had some capital gains loss I assumed that the adjusted gross income was correct. So, having to file an amended return for the first time in my life. Having to pay the IRS back for his error and have lost countless hours on this. I could have done what he did…. Did so many things wrong and turned my simple taxes into such a nightmare. Do not recommend. ### 1/5 — Stay away. *2021-05-05, version 41.0* Taxfyle is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get. Stay away. I’m waiting 4 weeks so far without even a single substantive message from my tax pro. No ETA, no guarantee they’ll even do my taxes. I didn’t exactly wait until the last minute — I started 6 weeks before the tax deadline. Taxfyle says they’re the Uber of taxes, and they’re right. Have you ever had an Uber Eats driver flake out on you, you don’t have your food, all the restaurants are closed. It’s hard to get customer service, and all they can do is refund your money. You’re screwed. Taxfyle says your taxes will be done in a week, or 2 days if you pay extra. Those estimates mean nothing. Taxfyle’s policies say they’re nothing but a referral service. Their job is over once you’ve gotten a tax pro. Neither they nor you have any power over the tax pro. They could take a year. And then you might want to cancel and go somewhere else. But you can’t, because Taxfyle’s refund policy charges you a large cancellation fee for having done nothing for you. Just like with Uber, Taxfyle’s tax pros are part-time consultants. They have a full time job doing accounting work for their real paying repeat customers, who get priority. They can reject a job at any time, and take as long as they want to do it. You’re stuck. You’re better off finding a good CPA and checking out their reviews, instead of someone being chosen for you at random. It probably won’t be any more expensive, either, and with them you’ll have a paid client/pro relationship. ### 1/5 — Absolutely horrendous! *2021-03-12, version 38.0* I used Taxfyle and overall the service is decent. The problem I had was that they had an issue with the tax guy I was assigned with, and they never bothered to follow up! Basically I paid them, they did NOT do their job, ROBBED me of my money, never gave me a refund and never found me a new accountant. Horrible service, horrible software. DO NOT USE ### 1/5 — Poor quality service and a privacy threat *2020-06-15, version 20.0* I want to start by saying that I have tried my best not to write a negative review, but after receiving ton of tax fraud messages, decided I need to make people aware of privacy risks if you go with this service. First of all, the quality of the service was very mediocre at best. I decided to go with taxfyle so that I don’t have to spend time calculating my taxes. I ended up pointing out a ton of mistakes which their “certified” CPA had made in my tax return. But after they filed my taxes, I started receiving a lot of fraudulent emails with very specific details from my tax return. Today I got yet another fraudulent physical letter (I confirmed this with IRS) with very exact amounts of taxes owed, withheld and payable. I don’t see how that data could’ve been obtained if not from Taxfyle. They filed my taxes electronically and I never sent actual tax return via mail. I would like to warn everyone about potential data privacy risks if you file your taxes with this service. I can not be 100% certain that they are the source of a leak, but the fact that I received so many fraudulent attempts to get more taxes out of me after I used their service is a good indication that their security has wholes. ### 1/5 — Avoid using this - it’s a total rip-off *2020-05-26, version 19.0* 1.) I asked for a quote and timing - it supposed to take a few weeks and it took months so I have to hire an accountant 2.) I deleted the app given I did n out get a response and I got external services 3.) Got ~1k in Taxes back. After, I got an invoice from taxfyle for 200 saying my taxes are ready ; super late and the form asked me to pay 3k in taxes (vs. 1k return from a decent CPA) Conclusion: it’s a waste of time , slow, and unprofessional. You will end up paying more in taxes and waiting forever. Also customer services declined my request of a refund. I would never use this again.
