### 3/5 — Not quite what I was hoping for

*2024-12-14*

This tablet version isn’t incredibly intuitive, but that’s just a learning curve I suppose. What really bothers me is it says it supports a keyboard, but really you must use the virtual keyboard and the Apple Magic Keyboard is NOT supported. I was looking forward to this replacing my laptop for tab editing, but it’s awkward to use while I am also holding my instrument since I have to poke around on the screen. So there’s my biggest feature request. Until then I guess it’s back to pencil and paper.

### 3/5 — Tef

*2024-07-18*

Maybe because I use Apple iPad. But a lot of the promised features don’t seem to work.

**Developer response:** Sorry for the late reply. Could you please be more explicit about the missing features?

**Developer response:** If all notes on the beat occupy all available positions, you can enter the text or diagram in 1/64 note mode, exactly one position later. You can also insert the text or diagram from the standard notation. TEFpad will find the first available position.

### 4/5 — Functionality good. Pro version disappeared after purchase

*2023-04-20*

I like this app and bought the pro version upgrade today but now the app has reverted to the LE version. Apple shows the pro purchase so what happened. Restoring the pro purchase was successful but I lost a significant amount of work.

**Developer response:** Do you mean that during a session, the application reverted to a light version? Or was it a new session?
I'm leaning towards the second hypothesis, as the LE or Pro version is tested only once at the start of a session, using your device's user preferences.
But I have no explanation as to what could have happened.

### 2/5 — Not user friendly

*2022-09-11*

The app assumes you know all the musical terms necessary to compose a song. The help function is useless. It throws items on the tab by all by itself, without any explanation as to why, and there is no information to learn from. As an example, trying to match the format of a tab I found in a book, it required a “double line” at the beginning of the measure. I found it in the pallet, tried to add it, but it wouldn’t show up. However, it did randomly place double lines on two other measures in the tab. And now I can’t get rid of them. Oh, how about the app crashing when you print? That’s fun too. Glitchy…but its all we have.

**Developer response:** The double bar is placed at the beginning of the currently selected measure. It is true that the display does not update immediately when the palette is tapped. This is a bug. But when you remove it from the appropriate palette, the display updates and the double bar disappears.
I would be very interested to have the tablature that makes the program crash in order to fix it but I know that as usual, you will not respond to this message :-(

### 2/5 — Not so happy

*2022-08-27*

I was using the lite version and then when I went and upgraded, wow buggy, buggy, buggy. Audio quits playing so I have to restart the app; trying to add song info is very temperamental, adding pull offs to the first couple of notes gives me a tie that spans two bars. It’s a bit clunky as it is with the lite version, but workable. Now very frustrated with the upgrade. Should have stuck with lite.

**Developer response:** If there were two separate apps, one could imagine that one apps works less well than the other. But it is the exact same executable that goes into unrestricted mode. Under these conditions, I think it's more of a learn curve.
When you enter a pull off, TEFpad looks for the next note on the same string. If it doesn't find it in the current bar, it looks in the next bar and if it finds a note, it displays the slur. I don't see what's absurd about this.
But I must be missing something. Could you explain to me why you think TEFpad is at fault in this respect?

### 2/5 — Not great

*2022-08-17*

I bought this to import Guitar Pro files. This functionality works to a certain extent but with many errors. The triplets were replaced with quavers (deleting one of the triplet notes) and standard repeat barlines were deleted and replaced with segno symbols (which seem to be impossible to delete). On trying to correct the triplets, I discovered that “off” sometimes means “on” in the triplet button in the toolbar.
I tried creating a tab from scratch too and this was better, but still some of the button functions were inconsistant. I think I would have got there eventually but it took me an hour just to do a couple of bars of music so not worth the effort.
If you are prepared to put in the time and can overcome the frustrating interface then you could produce a tab eventually.
On the plus side, print formatting for tabs is the best you can get on iPad.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback.
I think that the time spent learning the functions is quickly paid off but you shouldn't stop at two measures ;-)
Regarding the GP files that are not correctly translated, it would be nice if you could send me some examples. There is certaintly something I can do.

### 4/5 — Pratique, quelques points a corriger

*2021-02-07*

### 4/5 — Revised Review

*2021-01-25*

Thank you to the developers for your response. It still took me some time to figure out how to get multiple instruments but now that I have the program works for my needs.

**Developer response:** Just open the Instrument window which allows you to add up to 16 instruments. Simply tap the tuning of the instrument. And please consider to update your review.

### 5/5 — Très bien

*2019-10-13*

Bravo.

### 4/5 — Great tool

*2019-08-03*

Help system needs to be improved to get the fifth star. So far search internet has found most of simple needs

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2019-07-31*

Provides everything needed to create tablature. I play the dulcimer and was looking for a way to edit or display tabs only. Simple interface and user friendly.

One question though... How do I make the keys (example: DAD) display on sidebar instead of the word TAB?. They show in the preview, but do not export into the final print file.

GREAT JOB!

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback.
The TAB option only exists in the desktop version (TablEdit). I therefore assume that you are editing a tablature that was created with TablEdit with this option.
You can remove the option in TablEdit and then reload the file to iOS. Or you can create a template file on TablEdit with all the desired options and use it on iOS.

### 4/5 — Impeccable.

*2019-05-28*

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Inutile

*2026-05-05*

. Cher / peu pratique,peu intuitif, usine à gaz

### 1/5 — Rating Pop-Ups

*2025-10-10, version 4.0.0*

The developer ignores iOS settings to disallow ratings requests and spams users with its own pop-ups begging for ratings. This willful disregard for user preferences is an automatic 1 star rating.

**Developer response:** TEFpad does not use the same system as GP for entering notes and their duration. I understand that you're confused, but is that a reason to condemn my app? For 25 years, they've been 2 different applications with their own logic.

### 1/5 — Hard to use

*2020-04-02*

First, had I known you can only write 12 bars in this app I would not have bought it.
The program is not intuitive at all, I spent half an hour trying to get the program to do triplets with no avail. The help notes are mainly bias towards pc and doesn’t say much in the way of iPad info.
Not for me

**Developer response:** The limitation related to the modification of existing files is very clearly stated in the description. If you create a file from the scratch with TEFpad LE, you can save anything you want. For triplet entry, see the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPuhcKvdR7Q.

### 1/5 — Dulcimer TAB not working

*2019-07-28*

The tab won’t switch from the standard guitar TAB to dulcimer DAD TAB. I have tried other formats and they also aren’t switching to change the type of TAB displayed.

**Developer response:** The commentary that follows yours shows that you missed something. Of course TEFpad, like its big brother TablEdit, supports tablatures for diatonic dulcimer. You can write to us if you have a problem and we will help you. It will be more productive than leaving a review like this one.

### 1/5 — Déception

*2018-11-26*

### 1/5 — Didn’t know about TEFpad “PRO” till after...w/in App$19.99 huh?

*2018-08-10, version 2.8*

Update! 8/9/18

Careful! They claim this app to be 'the most powerful notion app on iOS' however it was built on a PC Windows platform making it super glitchy for ios an just plain buggy.
Also after trying the app I've found that it ain't so everything that the I-app Demo shows, which I think is ridiculous!

Saving and Printing is mess meaning it hard to use, but showing the same print window... Just very inconsistent; their website is VERY outdate (2010) with many links dead or in one case after pressing a link I was told I just received a virus! -No joke. Really I won't be so out to put this app down but a after a few emails with the developer (?) I felt I wasn't getting any answers or a sense of confidence for any upgrades to basic things one expects when paying a premium price for app like this -TefPad.

Otherwise this may be a helpful app for those owning the TablEdit desktop software (of which the demo I tried and after 3 days (3or 4 hours) I found unbearable to work with... looking for a little of help if away from home...but what I've found is that would be hard to rely on TEFpad app without fear of losing ones hard earned work.
--------------
MAybe its just me but I thought I was getting the full feature App after paying the initial $ for the TEFpad, only to find when I wanted to advance feature -cut/copy/past... to different songs... they tell me I have to pony up another $19.99 for the TEFpad”Pro” version. Funny how you can’t find that the Pro version in the Applestore (and yes, after reading the Discription of the TEFpad version they do explain that you can Purchase the Pro version as a in-App Purchase, but doesn’t list how much it cost) but only within the App itself. If I’d known that I would have just paid for the Full Pad Pro from the beginning. Saving me the $ of buying the basic TEFPAD App. Kind of weird. I mean, they have a Free Version; then two Paid versions -with the secondvone being quite limited. Why would anyone think there are to two Paid versions? I mean, just give us the Full on Version and be done with it! I’m just saying - It seems a little misleading to me. Anyway, I think I deserve a refund for the first the TEFpad APP, because as a long time Pro musician, all I need/wanted was the Full “PRO” version.
~ All that aside, I think its a great App that well thought out -and so cool that can import PowerTabs. Recommended.
Peace!

*2017-02-13*

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2017-01-01, version 2.5*

I was looking for something that would be intuitive to learn and easy to use. This was not it. Forget it.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Brilliant App

*2025-10-31*

Very versatile, lots to import from Classclef.

### 5/5 — LOVE THIS, but…

*2025-08-29*

I love the immediate intuitive usability of this app, but wish the manual were easier to use. I would love a search function for the manual. We’re not all music pros, so simply trying to find how the special notation works is NOT obvious. I can see where and how to PUT in “D.C” and “al” and “Coda” and “Fine”, but to make them work on playback is another function… perhaps I am missing something obvious??
Otherwise, I love being able to score tablatures on my iPad with this app.

### 5/5 — Excellent app for guitarist

*2024-11-23*

I like it and easy to use.

### 5/5 — Superlative

*2023-09-06, version 3.7.1*

This is a neat little program for musicians whether learning or fully fledged.
I have played for 55 years and though I still prefer to write on manuscript for working out ideas and retaining them mnemonically and as being a good sight reader, but I have found this little program more useful that much bigger and expensive software options; this fits in my pocket and the files can be easily shared.
I’m very happy with this purchase.
Not a bug in it and is thoroughly and well thought through.
All musicians should have this neat little program.

### 5/5 — Jimmy

*2022-12-25, version 3.6.0*

Wonderful app for Logic Pro and piano apps

### 5/5 — The Best App for writing Tablature for me.

*2022-11-22*

I use this app for writing tab for bass guitar. I’ve tried other apps that offer similar functionality. None of them compare to the usability and completeness of TEFPad.
There is a bit of a learning curve to get proficient with it. However, the more you use it the faster you get. I feel that there are some things that aren’t covered very well in the user guide. But I still give this app a full 5 stars.

Do save your work in progress often, though.

Also, the support from the developer is outstanding.

### 5/5 — TEFpad & Tabledit a great combo!

*2022-11-16*

Using Tabledit on a MacBook Pro and Tefpad on an iPad for several years. Just could not manage without them. Support from the authors is excellent. Great job!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2022-03-02*

I’ve been using it for at least five years. Can do everything I need it to do.

Online helpful as needed

Would recommend

### 5/5 — Tabled it

*2020-10-12*

This is a really good app. I already have the windows version
And love it. Just found out about this one and need to get used to it.

### 5/5 — Incredibly useful program

*2020-07-15*

This app is just amazing in terms of what it allows me to do with arranging and playing back music. I wanted an app that would allow me, for guitar, to arrange music that is most often played on keyboards. I also wanted an app that would allow me to keep my files local on my device rather than forcing me to work in the cloud. With support for tablature, this app is great for arranging for guitar but it does a lot more. It would be equally useful arranging for keyboard and seemingly for a band, though I have not tried to arrange for more than one instrument. It plays midi and includes a lot of instruments. It’s ease of use is comparable to other notation softwares I have used. I was hesitant to buy without the ability to check it out with a free trial. It turns out though that, for me, this light version of the program—even without available pro upgrades— is all I will need in a notation program for a long time. I’ll never have to turn on a computer. The help pages are deliberately succinct so there is some amount of trial and error involved in figuring out some features. Overall, however, it’s just a super app.

**Developer response:** Thank you. Much appreciated.
