### 2/5 — Crashes Frequently

*2026-08-13*

The app rarely opens for me and I’m finding that I need to uninstall and reinstall every time I try to use it.

### 3/5 — Have to re-login everytime

*2025-11-23, version 1.3.61*

The all itself is fine but I wish they save my login info so I don’t have to type it in everytime

### 2/5 — Videos do not play

*2024-10-01, version 1.3.55*

What good is an app that’s broken, where the content doesn’t load?

### 3/5 — Flexibility

*2023-03-08, version 1.3.35*

Wish I could go back and edit some previously entered answers.

### 4/5 — My personal experience

*2023-03-06, version 1.3.35*

The app isn’t cluttered and it’s easy to find what you need. The videos are very helpful and support the lesson. For some of the lessons an example of a response for the question would be helpful, sometimes I wasn’t sure what to write and how much to talk about. The over all experience is positive!

### 1/5 — Not detailed enough

*2022-06-22, version 1.3.21*

The app makes you answer questions which give you the option of “never” or “always”. Which doesn’t apply to me.
The. They tell you someone will contact me within 48hours… it’s been 7 days. I heavenly heard from anyone.
I deleted it. It doesn’t do anything but use space on my phone.

### 3/5 — Log in Features and Functionality need to be improved

*2022-06-16, version 1.3.21*

Overall, it is a very nice software. I am hopeful that the 'abilitiCBT app' will be life-changing and add positive impacts to improve life Citizens and Residence of Ontario, Canada.

However, the following is my feedback, observation & critique as an end-user (experiencing difficulties at the moment) and Software QA Analyst by profession. Idea of providing CBT services to reach a large population in need is excellent.

It seems like the App was made with Agility focusing on saving time & cost without giving TOP priority to end-users circumstances. Targeted end-users of this 'abilitiCBT app' are mostly temporarily &/or permanently experiencing a mild to a chronic level of depression, anxiety, physical issues, and cognitive/brain/mental/psychiatric issues. Most end-users mental distortions might make them unable to accomplish day-to-day life tasks, education, career progresses and perform normal. During this unexpected period, it is usually more difficult (cognitive-wise) to use technology (smartphone or website) to seek CBT. Hopefully, 'abilitiCBT app' by Lifeworks will become more user-friendly and accessible for the end-users soon so that they will not get demotiveted while useing this app.

Understandably, Business Analysts, Product Owners, Software Developers/Programmers, and QA Testers might not be familiar with the DSM 5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) or other mental challanges to make this application user-friendly. Therefore, it is essential to take input/feedback/critique from psychologists, psychiatrists, community workers, social workers who work with vaulnarable end-users and most importantly DUMMY End-Users from REAL LIFE from the very beginning.

(1) Problem with Log-in Component:

(i) This App automatically logs off users after a short session. Users cannot stay logged in for longer, need to log in again & again. It seems like they/server cannot hold many users at the same time.

(a) On Web platforms, there is a visible 'Remember Me' feature for users to stay logged in, but that functionality does not work.

(b) On iPhone/iOS platforms, the 'abilitiCBT app', option 'Remember Me' feature for users to stay logged in is not avainlable.

For a regular person it is difficult to remember email & passwords to LOG IN to a website or an application on phones again and again. It is EVEN MORE DIFFICULT for End-users with cognitive distortions to remember passwords, log in again & again through different times of the day to check-in, fill out Mood Tracker, complete modules, and revise materials to practice.

### 3/5 — Helpful if you need a little bit of help…

*2022-05-03, version 1.3.18*

AbilitiCBT is a nice idea — a self-help program teaching cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) skills via exercises in an App with guidance from a licensed councillor.

I think it could be helpful if you have mild anxiety (or other issues) but would caution about using this program if you’re dealing with anything on the serious side. I personally found it unhelpful.

In the past, I had had 6 months of CBT with a real councillor for anxiety, which seemed to permanently change me for the better.

So when an unexpected stressful event came up in my life that presented real life challenges above and beyond my coping skills (my Mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer and I’m the key caregiver) I decided to try AbilitiCBT. Due to the pandemic I couldn’t talk to a real-life councillor more than once every 6 weeks, and I couldn’t afford other options, so AbilitiCBT sounded like a great option to get some support during a very difficult time.

There are three problems with the program as I experienced it (it may be different depending on the councillor one gets as the councillor really sets the tone for the course):

1. There are interactions with a “councillor”, but there is nothing personalized in those interactions. It is like interacting with a chat bot or telemarketer. What I mean by this is you might share something personal with your councillor and you get a scripted response back that doesn’t even fit well nor mention anything in regards to what you told them. In other occasions you might share something different and get the same scripted response back. There is a real person there that you can write to and even talk to (I know because I talked to them on the phone) but they seem only able to deliver the same scripted responses — it’s not at all like working with a conventional councillor. It doesn’t feel like you’re talking to a person. This means if you’re actually dealing with something in life and could use just a bit of empathy or insight, this comes off as quite invalidating, which can leave you feeling worse rather than better. I feel like it would have been better to not have the councillor and just have the coursework. Note my councillor was very polite and did respond very quickly to messages and such.

2. There is no recognition that some external events genuinely cause unpleasant feelings such as anxiety, stress, or sadness, and that these are normal things to feel. Instead, every “bad” feeling you have is seen to result from your dysfunctional thinking. I think this results from the persistent use of “scripted” responses that are snippets of the program rather than a real interaction between you and a person who is listening to you and able to deliver some kind of empathy or insight. For example if your mother just died and it was a traumatic experience involving a week of intense hospital visits, relational issues from your past, missed sleep, the loss of your mom, financial troubles — etc etc — and you tried to share that this is the reason you were late with your module — you’d just get some scripted response back about the need to work on your negative thinking and that if you can’t keep up with the program then you’ll be discharged. I mean really.

3. The coursework is bite-sized, well formulated, and easy enough to complete and learn from in the first 5 modules or so. Then, in module 6 they suddenly try to cram in an overwhelming amount of material on CBT. It was the same in module 7. I thought the amount of material and way it is taught from module 6 wasn’t done well at all.

I actually didn’t complete the program due feeling that it wasn’t helpful for me personally. I got partway through module 7.

I think this program would be useful for someone dealing with mild symptoms (e.g. mild anxiety) at a time in their life when everything is going generally well, and if you’re completely unfamiliar with CBT and would like an introduction. It is free, and there is a polite, responsive, cheerleader-type person who you can interact with as you go along. But AbilitiCBT is no substitute for real counselling. It is missing the personal support, empathy, and insight that are part of a good counselling program.

### 5/5 — Review for AbilitiCBT

*2022-04-24, version 1.3.16*

This app is amazing, and I really appreciate all that it does and the people who have helped make this app.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to better their mental health!

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2022-04-04, version 1.3.16*

They weren’t helpful at all. Don’t waste your time.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Worst app ever

*2026-08-07*

Have to delete and add app every time I use it because it just stays on the same screen

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-09-18, version 1.3.59*

The app doesn’t work. It just keeps telling me to try again later. The website works though.

### 1/5 — App not worth it

*2024-12-18, version 1.3.55*

I was disappointed with this app. When using their modules there are questions you have to answer in order to advance in the module. This app is broken and won’t let you type in the answers. I contacted support and their solution was to use Chrome. Why have an app if you’re just telling people to use chrome??

### 1/5 — Cannot sign in

*2024-05-18*

Like others have said, the app keeps giving “service unavailable.” Instead, I have been logging in via mobile browser.

### 1/5 — Very Disapointing

*2024-01-31, version 1.3.49*

2 weeks waiting for initial therpaist call. After initially singing up, I booked my first appointment and they didn't have anything for a week. They mixed up the timezones when I first booked, I booked thinking it was EST, then they emailed saying it was MST. Hours before first appointment they emailed saying they had to reschedule. I rescheduled ANOTHER week later only to sit waiting for the call for 30 minutes and nobody called. You can move forward from the first module on your own without the initial therapist appointment. Been stuck waiting 2 weeks and now will either need to wait more until they fix this mess or just give up on this app.
Like someone else said - this app is for people struggling, and I feel more distressed now than when I first signed up.

### 1/5 — Pay for what?

*2023-12-15, version 1.3.49*

Pay 500$ to self teach. And have your progress slowed by a “therapist” that has to unlock your modules. This program can be done in a few hours but because of the way they designed it, it requires several weeks of back and fourth talking to get your next module unlocked. My therapist switched after I told them about myself which was rediculous, I don’t recommend this program to anyone, if you want cbt, find a better way.

### 1/5 — Boo

*2023-01-08, version 1.3.32*

Terrible app. Crashes a ton.
Great service. Awful app.

### 1/5 — This app is a joke

*2022-09-30, version 1.3.27*

They only let you learn 5-10 mins per day and you have to wait until someone unlocks the next one for you, so ridiculous. I was busy for a few weeks and they cancelled the program on me. Pure insanity, there is 0 need for the therapist just let us read the information.

### 1/5 — good for beginners

*2022-08-03, version 1.3.25*

this app is incredibly juvenile in its delivery. every module asks the same questions. a huge emphasis on breathing and stretching and not actual focus on emotions and thought patterns.
coming from this field … don’t even bother.

### 1/5 — Poor design

*2022-07-27, version 1.3.25*

Program/module seems outdated.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent application

*2026-03-16, version 1.3.66*

It’s a great app and has a ton of helpful tools. The new UI is great and easy to navigate

### 5/5 — A Life-Changing Program That Goes Beyond Mental Health

*2026-03-04*

I cannot recommend the CBT app highly enough. This program has been transformative for my anxiety. The therapist guidance is exceptional - approachable, respectful, professional, and genuinely available. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone in this struggle. What impressed me most is how comprehensive this goes. Beyond mental health content, I have learned invaluable life skills: breathing techniques, mindfulness, sleep optimization, exercise, PMR, gratitude journaling, and human connection. During times of confusion and uncertainty, this app provides exactly what I need. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Great mix of app and real therapist

*2023-06-23, version 1.3.42*

It is like getting a real work to do on my own and having a therapist as a guide. My therapist responds super quick as well

### 5/5 — Family conflict

*2022-09-30, version 1.3.27*

The CBT offered me many strategies that I could use to help me manage my stress! Thanks Derek for being so understanding and supportive!

### 5/5 — Simple but effective

### 5/5 — How I feel about AbilitiCBT

*2022-05-15, version 1.3.19*

There are moments that stick out in my mind. They are memories that occurred at different ages, with different people sometimes even with strangers.

These moments have one thing in common. They all deal with kindness, kindness that was shown to me. I did not experience much kindness in my life. When it would show up, I was taken aback and became very focused upon the experience and the person extending the kindness. I marvelled that such people existed and I wished I could feel kindness more often.

AbilitiCBT exudes kindness. The tone of my therapist’s voice, the calm, the encouragement, the belief in me, a total stranger to my therapist, all these shower kindness upon me. Because of this the lessons offered in the program come witj great gravitas.

Those of you who work at AbilitiCBT do so because you care. You are like a collective Statue of Liberty of wellbeing. You take all the downtrodden, huddled masses of which I am one. And you do so with that magical, elusive fairy dust I call kindness. Thank you for that. Namaste.

### 5/5 — Extremely helpful

*2022-05-06, version 1.3.18*

I have found the resources provided through this app extremely helpful. I have recommended this app to several friends and family. It’s a really great resource for mental health. Thanks government of Canada for making this free!!! So many Canadians need this and I’m very grateful!!!
