### 2/5 — Harsh Review

*2020-12-27*

One of the most enjoyable puzzle games I have played on IOS. I am quite harsh with my reviews, please take note, yet this game is well designed and visually pleasing.

In terms of gameplay, it’s a little underwhelming, where there are beautiful scenes, the walking is slow and puzzles are a bit too simple. I also have a bit of an issue with the final puzzle being a little unclear. It’s a hard game to play again unlike Monument valley or Agent A. However, these puzzles are seamless and diverse, there is rarely any copy and paste. Yet for a linear exploration game, it’s very short. This was a little bit disappointing.

The visuals are why you buy the game, they are magnificent. From the smart use of transitions, to the grain of the screen to make it look like paper. The sound track is also relaxing, yet gets a little repetitive. The 3D models at the start however are very unconvincing compared to the rest of the game where the paper is displayed. It seemed an odd choice.

I would recommend you buy this game, but only after monument valley or some other, loner puzzle game. Though this game is refreshing and extremely enjoyable, it was that bit too short. I feel that there is better you can buy with your $5 such as monument valley. Though, for $5, you can’t buy much with that, so you might as well get it.

### 3/5 — Beautiful, but short game

*2020-10-09, version 1.7.2*

Visually, the game is beautiful. However it is quite short at only three chapters and the game play is not especially challenging.

### 2/5 — Very short

*2019-07-21*

Nice to look at but very simple and very short game for your money. Overpriced

### 2/5 — amazing art and music, infuriating gameplay

*2019-07-06, version 1.6*

The art and music are beautiful but the game itself is not good. The character moves clumsily (with a tiring double click) and it is sometimes difficult to pick up objects. Most of the game consists of wandering around wondering where you are supposed to be and what you are supposed to do to advance the game (even with the hints). By the second half of the third chapter I was beyond frustrated and more than ready for the game to end.

### 2/5 — Frustrating and slow

*2019-07-04*

Point and walk movement simplistic and slow with frustratingly long time between desired actions. Don’t recommend I’m afraid. It’s pretty backgrounds though just you spend too long moving through them!

### 4/5 — Pretty

*2019-03-14*

Tengami is a nice looking game, with a pretty, paper doll appearance. Yes the character does not move fast, but that didn't bother me. It added to the peaceful feel of the game. The puzzles were not brain bending hard, but that was fine for a relaxing, pretty game. Something in the overall experience was ... off. I can’t put my finger on it but When i got the last bloom, i was ready for it to end. Its a nice game, worth the money, just not a great game.

### 3/5 — Not as good as Gorogoa

*2018-08-18*

This game is innovative, but not as innovative as Gorogoa.

This game is beautiful but not as striking and as complex as Gorogoa

The game is short because you only collect 3 blossoms, a mirror and a sword and that’s it. Gorogoa is short because it takes years to make a game of that much complexity.

If you’re planning to play Tengami and Gorogoa then play Tengami first because it will seem unusual. Then play Gorogoa and it will blow your mind.

### 3/5 — Beautiful but way too short!

*2018-08-06, version 1.6*

This is a beautiful game, but $3.99 for a 3 level game is just robbery.

### 4/5 — Could be better!

*2018-03-30*

From the start I absolutely loved this game and everything about it, BUT now I’m stuck fast as I cannot move the character at all. So it looks like I’ll be deleting this delightful yet flawed game - shame! Thankfully I got past the problem and have just completed this wonderful, unique, thoroughly enjoyable game. It’s just WAY too short!!!! More of the same please, and soon!!!! Thank you for a truly amazing, mind-bending experience!

### 2/5 — Sooooo sloowwww

*2018-03-23*

I would rate this game higher but the character walks at such a snail pace everywhere it’s hard to stay interested. The only thing keeping me coming back is that I spent $6 to play it.

### 3/5 — Needs some polishing

*2018-03-11, version 1.6*

This game is a great idea, but it feels like a prototype of a full game. Not quite polished enough and too short.

The puzzles are sometimes so simple that you end up looking around for a more difficult solution only to be surprised that all you have to do to solve them is count things. A lesson could be learned from games like The Room.

The game in general is beautiful, but there are certain details where shortcuts seem to have been taken and more fluid movement of the character could give the game a more complete feel. It feels like some movements of the character were skipped to come back to later perfected (only they weren’t).

And finally, the game is really short. Like one hour worth of gameplay. It feels like the designers developed a few levels as a prototype and then they just never developed any more. For the $3.99 price, it feels like you should be getting more.

Great idea for a game, but just seems like someone rushed to get this out the door when too many things were left unfinished/unperfected.

### 4/5 — Meditative and beautiful

*2018-01-21, version 1.6*

Moves slowly, a plus in this game to better immersive the player in the gorgeous graphics. I loved it, but wish it was longer.

### 3/5 — Disappointingly short & easy for the cost

*2018-01-11, version 1.6*

If you pay for a game, you should not expect to beat/finish it in a couple hours. I *LOVE* the format, music, animation, puzzles... but 3 levels? Seriously? There were a couple puzzles I had to work a little harder to figure out, but for the most part it was intuitive and too simple. It is visually awesome, the music is soothing and sublime. I could play it for days, but, unfortunately, *only 3 levels.*

### 3/5 — Amazingly beautiful but too short

*2017-12-20*

I was pleasantly surprised by the aesthetics of the game. The looks and music immerse you into a relaxed state. The puzzles are not that difficult and I finished the game in a couple of hours. I absolutely loved the concept and how the game is played but got disappointed by how short it is.

### 3/5 — Lovely

*2017-12-11, version 1.6*

UPDATE: While my experience of the game has not changed, I've (reluctantly) lowered my review of the application in response to not being able to play it on my iPad 2. This is my first experience of purchasing an app that I've been locked out of because it evolved further than my hardware can upgrade; usually, applications have permitted me to keep my older version of the software.
Again, the game itself is lovely; I simply cannot play it now.

I'd like to quote the exquisite review of Tengami gamer Peter Maurer in my attempt to summarize Tengami:
"It's a video gaming equivalent of wandering a meadow in a national park, or hiking some miles along a coastline."
This game is really for those of us who take time out of each day to appreciate the beauty in the natural world. It's like a storybook setting, made up of beautifully illustrated flip pages of attractive, interactive scenery.
I love it.

### 4/5 — Decent puzzles, gorgeous visuals, great music

*2017-12-02, version 1.6*

It’s a short game but the puzzles are decent, and the artwork and music are beautiful and immersive. My one and only criticism is that the character walks so slowly— presumably to force you to take some time to appreciate the landscapes!

### 3/5 — Glacially slow

*2017-10-15, version 1.5*

Beautiful game. Good puzzles. Meditative. As in if the character walked any slower he’d be going backward. You might as well learn to meditate because there is no way to speed walking or sailing. And there’s not much of a story to distract. Seriously detracted from my enjoyment of the game. Not sure I will finish.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Rubbish.

*2019-07-05*

Yes, it looks and sounds great, but the controls are woeful, it’s painfully slow, and suddenly it’s just stopped altogether. A complete waste of time and money.

### 1/5 — Game won’t open

*2018-11-17, version 1.6*

I’m using an IPhone 8 and the first page of the game starts out with a “slide to open” button. I slid it but the game won’t open😟
A waste of money for sure. Hey Developers- any help?

### 1/5 — Repetitive. Short. Utterly disappointing.

*2017-12-07, version 1.6*

Completely overrated. The only entertaining aspect of this game is the pop up book style art / mechanics, which become slow and repetitive as you progress through the game. There are some poorly written Haiku-style poems between the chapters (there are only 3) which serve no purpose except to augment the cheaply engineered Japanese aesthetic. Terrible and utterly disappointing.

### 1/5 — Clueless

*2017-11-05, version 1.5*

I feel I wasted my money.. I have no clue how to maneuver thru game, however graphics are very good. I want a game I can play without having to go online to figure it out.

### 1/5 — Not enough game for the price

*2017-01-26, version 1.4.1*

This is a one time through game, and I finished it in about three hours. Way too expensive for an app that you can only enjoy once. It's beautiful and enjoyable but a terrible value!!!!

### 1/5 — looks good

*2015-10-03*

that's it

### 1/5 — Bad game play

*2014-11-30*

Bad game play although nice art work. Expect extreme high standards since it is featured by Apple.

### 1/5 — Wow, just horrible

*2014-10-28*

Looks amazing. That's the only quality it has and it doesn't come close to saving the game. You can barely see your character (on an iPhone 6). It's ridiculously slow and the puzzles don't make any sense.

### 1/5 — Boring, expensive, unchallenging, dull, slow, exceptional.

*2014-07-28, version 1.2*

This game is graphically gorgeous; the artistic flair is brilliant and it deserves praise, props towards the creative director who thought of a pop up book, it's truly exceptional. Having said that there isn't much else, the game play is slow; the character cannot move any faster especially since I have to tediously press the screen for him to move miles across my iPhone. There is nothing to do in this game and graphics are only so convincing, yes they are amazing but they are a façade for the dry gameplay that it covers. This game is categorized as a puzzle... so where are the puzzles? If you all are going to charge five dollars for this game you are within your rights, clearly a lot of work has been put into this production but at least supply the consumer with an apt description of the contents, a "nutritional facts" of the game. In short this game has pride and production value but no substance or challenge two key components of a Game.

### 1/5 — Boring

*2014-07-20*

Just so, so boring.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Breathtakingly beautiful

*2021-01-08*

I loved this game and could have played for longer, it is truly mesmerising, like being in a dream I didn’t want to wake up from.

### 5/5 — An old favorite

*2020-07-23, version 1.7.2*

I have fond memories of playing this one. It’s relaxing, and I love the wolves. I mostly play it on long plane flights. I think I’ve gone through from beginning to end six times at least?

Haven’t played it in a while, but I will update this review when I have the chance to do another run through!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2020-01-10, version 1.6*

I highly recommend this experience/game....it’s got beautiful graphics and a great way to have some fun and relax at the same time! Fantastic job with this one!

### 5/5 — Wow!

*2019-09-21*

What a beautiful, unique and artistic game! Amazingly imaginative and captivating; I have not come across a game like this before. Really gentle and beautiful with just the right level of challenge to the puzzles. I felt like I was being carried on a dreamlike journey. Amazing artwork and imagination. I wish I’d found this game a long time ago. Fantastic!

### 5/5 — Beautiful ethereal game

*2019-02-22, version 1.6*

I’ve just finished my 3rd time through in as many years. It’s so relaxing, with lovely music, graphics, story. I take my time working through it and it lasts for several weeks. I wish there was a Tengami 2.
Thank you to the developers for a meaningful and enjoyable experience.

### 5/5 — Beautiful

*2019-02-16, version 1.6*

Absolutely. Beautiful. If you enjoy beauty and puzzles and origami -- if you appreciate creativity and cleverness -- you need to see and play this game. It's slow-paced so it's soothing in all ways

### 5/5 — Love this game

*2019-01-28, version 1.6*

I have replayed it several times because it’s just beautiful to look at and explore. All of the little details just make it. I love the music too, it’s soothing and fits into each scene, complementing it rather than being a distraction. This is art in game form. I do sometimes wish it were a bit longer and that there was a way to explore more freely, but it’s still a little gem. Highly recommended, I really hope to see more from this developer someday.

### 5/5 — A must have!

*2018-05-29*

A breathtaking game with wonderful music enhancing the experience. Anybody could pick this up and enjoy. Challenging in parts but not overly difficult so it should suit everybody.

### 5/5 — Beautiful Game

*2017-09-19*

I thought that I had lost this game forever (after an update)The problem has been rectified now and it plays perfectly. A beautiful and relaxing game, Just wish there could be a 'Tengami 2'

### 5/5 — art

*2017-09-01, version 1.4.1*

Very beautiful. Better than monument valley.
