### 3/5 — Maybe I’m just a bit slow??

*2026-03-22, version 5.0.1*

As a noob I’m finding it hard to use. I can sing but am trying to put labels to notes and keys. Will delete this review if I figure it out.

### 5/5 — From the Golden Age of Apps

*2025-11-27, version 5.0*

This is a fantastic app, the way iOS apps used to be. Pay once, get amazing features with no ads. I’ve been using this to memorize the notes on a bass fretboard and it has everything I want. It’s highly configurable, I’ve started looking ahead to learning scales, arpeggios, and intervals and it’s perfect. I wish more apps worked like this.

### 5/5 — Great for getting ready for exam

*2025-11-15, version 5.0*

Tenuto has helped preparing for two Trinity exams so far and is the reason my ear training and other skills have improved. I would like to see cadences next.

### 5/5 — Superb

*2025-11-02*

Very very useful and advanced training app for music learner. App works seamless without any delay and easy to use.👍

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2025-10-02, version 5.0*

A classic little app that just helps a lot. I’ve seen great results after using the app with note identification to get better, and my reaction time increased a little bit too! It’s great.

### 4/5 — Good, but feature request below

*2025-09-16, version 5.0*

It would be very helpful to have the option to enable a pop-up of the correct note letter if a note is guessed incorrectly (e.g. when guessing a note on the guitar fretboard with multiple guesses disabled).

### 5/5 — Highly recommend

*2025-09-03, version 5.0*

This app is the best for any musician!! Highly recommended and worth the price, you definitely get your moneys worth

### 5/5 — great for musicians

*2025-07-31*

Great app to practice skills that are necessary for every musician. It could use some updates as it's been the same for years - but it's great and deserves praise nonetheless.

### 5/5 — Wonderful!

*2025-05-28, version 5.0*

I use it all the time. So great. Thanks for adding the latest note customization feature. I use this app to improve sight reading of chords and ear training of chords and it helps a ton.

### 5/5 — Very useful learning tool

*2025-05-15, version 4.2*

I use this program every day to work on note and chord reading, and ear training for notes, intervals, and chords. It is very flexible. Sometimes the user has to think through the setup of an exercise to match the goal of the user, but this is what you would expect for an app this flexible. I recommend this app to all my friends. Thanks Tenuto!

### 3/5 — Great but buggy

*2025-05-02, version 4.2*

In terms of well designed exercises that help you master music theory quickly, this app cannot be beat. It is pretty bare bones - there is no cutesy owl offering encouragement, and there is no internal algorithm that tries to gauge your current ability - so you do need to be self-motivated and know your own strengths and weaknesses to get the most out of it. But it offers so much control over what you are (or are not) learning, you never waste your time on concepts that you have already mastered.

It is, unfortunately, quite buggy and often becomes unresponsive in various ways. The sound cuts out, or it sometimes requires two or more taps to register an answer, or it freezes up entirely. More annoyingly, quitting the application doesn’t usually solve the problem. I often have to completely reboot my iPad. If the bugs get squashed, this will be a perfect, 5 star app for me.

### 5/5 — I use it all the time

*2025-03-23, version 4.2*

I’m a piano teacher and I use it all the time with my students. I don’t understand some of the negative comments. For the price, I find it a very dynamic and thorough tool for testing yourself and others. It Does have timers. I don’t understand when some say it doesn’t. It has a challenge mode. For beginners, you can set parameters on how difficult you make each challenge. I highly recommend it as a tool for learning music and testing your knowledge.

### 4/5 — Great for sight reading

*2025-03-17, version 4.2*

I have been learning piano but am still struggling to read music efficiently. This app has been perfect for testing myself because it provides instant and accurate feedback. My only wish is that there was an option to recognize chords by their names (Ex: A7 or G minor).

### 5/5 — Amazingly helpful

*2025-02-28, version 4.2*

Let’s me keep practicing skills when I can’t get to the piano.

### 5/5 — Perfect App.

*2025-02-13, version 4.2*

You can’t find a better more straight to the point way to learn theory.

### 5/5 — The best

*2025-02-11, version 4.2*

One time I was driving back from Florida with my girlfriend who knows nothing about music theory and in the 18 hour car ride, I taught her everything she needs to know through this app

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Wrong billing

*2025-12-06, version 5.0*

App store says $6.99 but I am charged $17.59 i.e. more than double. Developer, can you please check?

### 1/5 — Piano tone is so bad

*2025-10-09, version 5.0*

The piano note note sound very bad. Far from my roland piano

### 1/5 — Not good

*2025-09-13, version 5.0*

I am very upset

### 1/5 — Keine Anleitung!

*2025-09-08*

Unbrauchbare Software, Finger weg. Der Markt hat Besseres zu bieten! 0 Sterne!

### 1/5 — Terrible and misleading

*2024-01-17, version 4.2*

This app has no lessons or information on music. It’s just bunch of lame quizzes that are completely uninspiring and boring. I can’t get a refund. Geeeeeeeeeee. I wonder why!

### 1/5 — 刚买完，用户体验极差，不要买！！

*2021-05-22*

刚买完用户体验极差，网页版上很多功能都没有

### 2/5 — All sounds stopped working

*2024-11-10, version 4.2*

Was working fine for an hour then all sounds stopped. iOS 18.1, silent mode is turned off, volume is turned on, yet the app will not play any sounds. Restarted the phone and app many times. Please fix and i will readjust this review to 5 stars

### 2/5 — Surprised at positive reviews

*2022-05-16, version 4.2*

The Ear Training apps don’t provide ear training, they are just tests. They don’t even work, after you apply a right answer it doesn’t give you the next test note until you guess randomly. (This is true on their website too) There’s absolutely no documentation.

### 2/5 — Piano oriented, not great great for guitarists.

*2021-05-10, version 4.1.2*

If you are a guitarist and you are purchasing this app to use the various calculators, be aware, there is no fretboard tool included at all. There is only staff or a keyboard. If you are trying to find a tool to help you calculate and visualize chords, scales, intervals, etc on a guitar fretboard, this isn’t going to do it for you. If you are a pianist, or you are quite knowledgeable about staff and written music, this app could be a life saver. As a guitarist not very familiar with a keyboard or written music, i’m very disappointed with this app.

### 2/5 — Not for guitar

*2019-03-03, version 4.1.2*

It does not work well for guitar. Keeps going back to piano settings, even in middle of testing.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Get This App!!

*2026-08-01, version 5.1*

If you’re on the search for an app to help you reinforce your musical foundations, this is the app. It’s not instructional so much as it is access to exercises that will help you lock in the knowledge you’re getting from your lessons. I’ve merely explored it for about 5 minutes and feel like I’m stealing it for $4.99. Well worth the money. Get this app!

### 5/5 — Fun

*2026-07-09, version 5.1*

This is fun to do during my down time.

### 5/5 — I love it

*2026-07-06, version 5.1*

No nonsense app, clean interface and highly functional. Many thanks!

*2026-06-08, version 5.1*

So helpful! Love the fact there is no subscription just a one time purchase. Screw subscriptions!

*2026-03-01, version 5.0.1*
