Based on some recommendations on reddit, I tried the Teo Taxi app while visiting Montreal and I'm not convinced the app isn't some sort of scam to separate tourists from their money. I tried to book a cab from Marche Jean Talon and for the pick up spot, I entered a specific address (7077 Av Casgrain) of the building that my daughters and I were waiting in front of. We waited for a while as three different times, the Teo Taxi app showed we were assigned a driver who apparently immediately changed their mind and refused the fare -- the app would show a driver had accepted our ride, then within a few seconds it would go back to searching for a driver. The app has a map that's supposed to show the location of your cab driver, but it doesn't seem to have any relation to reality. If you can believe the app's map, our cab at one point appeared to fly directly overhead, traveling diagnoally over city blocks. We picked a good spot to wait where we'd be able to see any approaching cabs a block away, but never saw our driver, who somehow "arrived" at our destination without us being able to see him. We then tried calling the driver through the app. He said he did not speak English and unfortunately, my French is not any better, so he just kept repeating "I am inside!" (inside what, exactly, he could not / would not say). We walked around the entire market block hoping to find him but eventually gave up. The app then charged us anyway for a "no show." Teo Taxi ended up convincing my daughters that Uber is better than cabs. When we gave up on the cab, I ordered an Uber, using the same address the Teo Taxi driver couldn't find. Our driver was there within a couple minutes and got us right to our destination. My daughters asked "why would people use cabs instead of Uber?" Can't say I have a good answer to that one if you're visiting Montreal. Hopefully one of the other Montreal cab apps is better than Teo Taxi, cause this one is worse than useless. ### 2/5 — Garbage - Buyers Beware *2026-07-08, version 8.27.0* App trying to compete Uber but the amount it offers at booking is an “estimate”. Actual pricing is higher once you get in the cab as the meter starts. The amount at booking is charged as a deposit. Cabbie tried explaining but clearly had no idea how the app worked. Delete. ### 2/5 — Electric not provided *2026-04-24, version 8.27.0* I specifically paid for a higher cost trip to be green and use an electric car option but instead was sent a gas car without asking if that was okay or if I’d prefer waiting or canceling. That’s no okay. I was only willing to pay more for the environment. Asks me for my email, then tells me it is already in use and blocks the process, no alternative to resolve. Les 2, 3 minutes s’avèrent du 8, 10 minutes. Cette fonctionnalité induit systématiquement en erreur! ### 2/5 — Late and charged me double *2025-09-26, version 8.27.0* Driver did not show up even close to when they were supposed to (app said 2 mins arrival was closer to 10) and the 9 min ride ended up being closer to 30 and I missed my train out of montreal. He arrived after 10. Please fix it!!!! ### 2/5 — mauvaises expériences *2025-01-30, version 8.23.0* Première fois, un pourboires par défaut de 20% a été appliqué car l’app le met de base dans notre profile. Deuxième fois, soi disant un chauffeur dans 2 minutes, 8 minutes plus tard toujours personne. Troisième fois, estimation entre 18-20$ et je me retrouve à payer 27$. Quand j’ai appelé, on m’explique que c’est dû à la circulation ou construction…mon trajet était le soir sans circulation ni détours. On me dit que c’est 2.05 du km et 5$ de frais et que ma course était de 8km…soit 22$ et que ce n’est donc pas très loin de 27$ !! C’est juste 20% de plus !! Ils me montrent que ça va me coûter entre 22-24$. J’accepte. Ils me gèle dans mon compte 46$. Ils savent que leur 22-24$ est une mensonge éhonté. Le chauffeur s’est placé derrière des autobus et des camions lents pour tous le trajet et ça m’a coûté plus de 31$. Ça c’est une compagnie qui vous dit de supporter les entreprises d’ici parce qu’ils veulent vous crosser. ### 1/5 — Pratique... mais pas s'il faut être remboursé. *2026-05-10, version 8.27.0* Il est impossible d'avoir un reçu complet, incluant le numéro de taxe de l'entreprise. Cela est toujours problématique lorsque vient le temps de demander un remboursement à mes employeurs lorsque j'ai à prendre un taxi dans le cadre du travail. Les chauffeurs diffèrent quand à l'impression d'un reçu papier : certains le font pour le prix de la course uniquement, certains ajustent le prix pour prendre en compte le pourboire, certains refusent même catégoriquement d'en remettre. L'application n'offre pas l'option de demander un reçu détaillé, même s'il est émis plus tard, ou envoyé par courriel. Cela ne serait pas un problème. Cela pourrait être même des directives claires quand à la démarche nécessaire et indiquer qui contacter afin de le recevoir. Mais rien de cela n'est possible. J'essaie d'encourager une entreprise québécoise au lieu de faire affaire avec Uber, et là je me retrouve pris avec des factures non remboursées car je n'ai pas le numéro de taxes. My ride was estimated to be $26-28 but when i got my receipt they charged $48 including an automatically added 15% tip without my consent. I tried calling their customer service line but it goes directly to voicemail. Do not use this service. Reached out to their email and it took them a week to get back to me, only to say that they charged the correct amount with no explanation as to why they doubled my fare. Je me rends compte ensuite que j’ai payé sur l’appli et sur le terminal donc ma course en double. Je contacte le service client, un enfer. On répond à ma demande uniquement pour la fermer, aucun échange possible. Je ne recommande PAS. Ça ne m’étonne pas que la société qui commence par un U est beaucoup plus utilisée … je ne repasserais pas par Téo taxi, jamais. ### 1/5 — Lacks professionalism *2025-02-19, version 8.23.0* The app was supposed to be an alternative to Uber. Which is great to have another source, but it is still extremely lacking professionalism. The price ranges are always deeply incorrect, so a $15 charge can end up being $28 not including taxes. The drivers are never on time ended up being 20 minutes and had to cancel. I found this Annoying because it was supposed to be a one minute wait time and when we called it kept saying the driver would be five minutes even though he was down the block. It just feels like a a scam where I had to ask the bank to ask Teo to give me my money back! Les prix sont justes et les temps d’attente sont généralement raisonnables. Par contre, l’application mobile sur iPhone aurait vraiment besoin d’une mise à jour sérieuse. Le temps d’arrivée estimé est complètement faux. Un 1 minute » se transforme en 7 à 9 minutes. Impossible aussi de modifier le pourboire sans recevoir un message d’erreur. La localisation est imprécise : la pin m’a placé à plus de 100 mètres de mon emplacement réel. J’ai aussi reçu une confirmation avec le taxi assigné et sa position, pour finalement voir la voiture changer soudainement… alors que l’icône restait immobile sur la carte. Je recommande Teo depuis longtemps.
