Example: they had an update that completely removed the ability to confirm I’ve emptied the waste bin if it was in sleep mode. I emailed support- they said no no - it’s intended functionality! Lo and behold, an update or two later it’s fixed again. Now, a couple pushes ago, my machine now wastes 3-4 T of ground coffee into the drip machine EVERY DAY. It’s wasting so much! I emailed support that something changed (even my husband noticed the massive amount of waste) and they’re gaslighting me that it’s completely normal. I sent a pic saying THIS is normal? Because it wasn’t that way for the first YEAR I owned it. Of course they’re saying yes it’s normal!! Go with another company that won’t gaslight you when they fudge up their updates…… ### 2/5 — Schedules *2026-06-03, version 1.4.4* Setting the wake-up time for Wednesday through Saturday does not work. Every time I close the app it disables the scheduled wake up time I made for those days. ### 1/5 — Poor security implementation makes this app useless *2025-01-16, version 1.2.8* The app locks you out of the controls if your phone is on a different network than the coffee maker for safety reasons - understandable. However, it checks this by looking at the SSID (wifi network name) you're connected to, so if you have different wifi network names for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, a different network name for IoT/guest mode/a wifi extender, this app is useless. There are better foolproof ways to detect if you're close to the machine. This is false safety because nothing stops me from being on the same wifi name in a different country but controlling the machine through VPN. Reported this to Terra Kaffe and was ignored - be warned your smart coffee maker could be dumb because of this! ### 1/5 — Always Asleep *2024-08-11* No matter what state the machine is actually in, the app says the machine is asleep. Attempting to wake the machine, which is already awake, never succeeds. There’s no way to report bugs without opening a customer support case, so issues like this likely go unnoticed by the developers. ### 3/5 — Let me separate SSIDs! *2024-03-09, version 1.0.1* Took a few tries to get it to connect to WiFi, once it finally did it turns out you have to be on the same SSID to control it from the app, that is wildly dumb. Like many other security conscious customers you will run into, I keep all my IoT devices on their own SSID/subnet separate from my personal computing clients rendering the app useless to me if I want to keep my security practices in place. If you really have to verify the phone/coffee maker are on the same network just use multicast similar to how chromecast/airplay work, this will allow vlan traversal for most instances. ### 3/5 — Needs updating *2024-03-03, version 1.0.1* The functionality of the app is crucial, but unfortunately, it falls short when used on a home WiFi network with multiple bands. Specifically, when my phone is connected to either the 5GHz or 6GHz band, it fails to detect the Tk-02 device connected to the 2.4GHz band. This significantly impairs its usability, as I typically connect my iPhone to higher frequency bands. However, when I do connect to the 2.4GHz band, the app works as intended. I kindly request a fix for this issue. On a positive note, I thoroughly enjoyed the lattes I made today; they were simply delicious! ### 3/5 — Stats are broken *2024-02-29, version 1.0.1* Most of the app does what it sets out to do. The stats are very broken. I just received my machine and have brewed 7 shots. According to my app it says I’ve used 2.6k ounces of water and 70 ounces of milk. I can assure you I have done neither. ### 1/5 — Sleep mode *2024-01-22, version 1.0.1* Why is it when I set the sleep mode to NEVER in the app the TK-02 machine still goes into sleep mode??? I don't want it go into sleep mode which is why I set it to NEVER. What is wrong here?? Does the App need an update? My coffee machine downloaded a firmware update when I got my WiFi programmed in it. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — What broken?: machine or app *2026-06-28, version 1.4.4* My machine recently started freezing. We sent back to company to fix since it was still under warranty. Just Got it back and when the 2nd cup was being made, machine froze yet again. We literally just got it fixed! When I try to go back into the app, my settings are different and it won’t let me change and save anything. I’m not sure if the app is causing all these hiccups in the machine, if the machine is faulty, or if the company didn’t actually fix our machine to begin with. All I know is, For the price of this thing, we shouldn’t be having any of these Problems. Please fix whatever is wrong w/ either your product Or your app. I’m getting very tired of my very expensive machine glitching and making my mornings frustrating and coffee-less. Did the people Fixing my machine even run it through the process of making coffee to check to make sure it was actually fixed before they sent it back to me?-sure doesn’t appear that way. Please get better with troubleshooting-you have a great product to sell-if you could just get it to keep working like it should. ### 1/5 — TK02 *2026-06-22, version 1.4.4* The app will not let you finish the “Contact Customer Experience Team” process. The app just kicks you back to the menu after you try to upload the required photo. The unit doesn’t come with an instruction manual and it won’t allow me to sync unless I fill it with water. However, there are no instructions on the App about how to fill it with water — and several places that could be the water input. Of course, I incorrectly poured water into the ventilation hole! Only complaint I have is getting my custom drinks to show on the machine which seems to work sometimes and others not. Same issue with reordering my drinks. Also says needs to change filter and it’s been replaced and the counter on the machine has reset already. ### 3/5 — WiFi Issues *2025-03-21, version 1.2.8* App is great 90% of the time, my issues are with two main things. The first is that it says that I put the wrong password in for the wifi, but won’t let me try to forget the network or put a new password in. The second (and not that big of a deal, just annoying) is that every time I open the app, it asks if I want to keep my steamed milk setting different from the TK standard setting. I promise nothing has changed in my preference since the last time I opened the app. I love the machine!! But that is clearly not the problem, because if I go up directly to the machine to start up, it begins the warm up workflow directly. Also there has been several times where my machine is disconnected from the WiFi for no particular reason, and I couldnt just re-enter the wifi password on the app. I always had to unpair machine from app or delete the app and re-download to fix this problem. ### 3/5 — When it connects, it works. *2024-07-25, version 1.2.0* Leaving it at 3 stars currently as while when the app connects to the machine, it works perfectly, many times I find I have to delete and add the machine almost daily or it does not connect correctly. Or, it will show the machine asleep when it is not. ### 3/5 — App works well *2024-04-11* This is my first experience with an app specific to a superautomatic and so I cannot compare to other apps. Seems to work well for the purpose it serves. Having said that, I believe the designers missed something that would take this to another level … 1) they allow you to create a customized expresso profile, but this then becomes the default for every expresso based drink. What they should have done was allow you to create custom profiles and then assign any custom profile to any drink. For example, perhaps I want a strong expresso profile with a a finer grind named custom1 and then another profile with a courser grind named custom2. In the drinks menu’s I should be able to assign a different profile to a different drink. This is really what people want. 2) be able to create new drink types. This again would take this tk-02 concept to another level. For example, what if I wanted to create a new drink profile called “Longo”. Today, that is not there as a basic drink. In this case, I could just assign a new expresso profile to create this new drink type with added step of additional water before the puck is extracted. This is maybe a poor example, but the idea here is to allow full customization of the shot, water and also profile order (water first and then shot as an example).
