Honestly just giving it a little transparency would go a long way, the feel of the gameplay feels great! But doing hard mode with that hiccup is very awkward. :/ ### 4/5 — Game Center Leaderboards *2024-01-30* Hi I have a question for the developers, I really want to give you guys a 5 star but I just got a marathon score in game that was higher than my previous and it hasn’t been updated in days. I’ve tried playing the on easy and hard to see if playing either mode is what updates the score but it hasn’t changed. Help and clarity would be appreciated! ### 4/5 — Good game. A few annoying flaws *2023-12-20* This is a great version of Tetris, although it has a few bugs that are annoying. The first is that every time I reload, I have to set the music and sound effects volume again. These settings are not remembered across sessions. The second is that the music being played appears to be the same. It’s gotten very old. Finally; I have had issues later in games, where tapping on a Tetris block doesn’t change its direction. Otherwise great. ### 3/5 — A few suggestions *2023-07-22* I like this game, but I have some suggestions on how to improve it. First of all, this game seems to assume the controller being used isn’t attached to the phone, but that’s not always the case. The controller I use for games is a Backbone controller, which wraps around my phone and is plugged in as a USB accessory. I think a good solution to this would be to add support for playing the game horizontally, although I understand if that wouldn’t work with the game. An issue I have with this game is fever mode. The visuals shown during fever mode are super distracting and make it more difficult to stay on beat. I think toning down the visuals during this time would improve gameplay quite a lot. That’s all for now. I might update this later if I have anything else. When it starts to fast drop, I find the controls virtually impossible to properly control the bricks. The function keys are confusing and there's very bright eye hurting lights at times I guess you were doing well. The drop and tap games are boring and its hard to stay on beat. Even though I know how to play the game, it will not let me skip intros with their confusing function key directions. The controller option also does not seem to work. Definitely not fun nor player friendly. Spent more time trying to skill the nonsense and play. Would not reccomend. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — A mess--nothing like Tetris *2023-04-12* I have no idea what this is supposed to be. They took Tetris and made it into some kind of neon thing with club music and bad controls. They show an outline of the shape at the bottom to "help" you know where to place it. It's something that takes 20 seconds to learn. It's part of the challenge of the game. But apparently it now requires this kind of hand holding that ruins the game play. Just give me the original Tetris with 8-bit graphics and Russian folk music. At lesat make it an available game mode. Nobody wants this dumbed down eyesore stuff with bad music. ### 1/5 — Annoying *2023-03-26* I was looking for a plain Tetris that is not full or all possible trackers and subscriptions. This app seems to fit the bill until you realized that the beat nonsense is forced on you and cannot be turned permanently off. Recent versions suffer from control issues that are not resolved by reinstalling the app. The speed up in the game is poorly implementing resulting in a too easy start up followed by a very steep speed increase. At that stage control is very unreliable even on devices that should easily handle the load. At the end I completely lost interest… ### 1/5 — Controls, the same recurring theme *2022-12-21, version 1.12.1* The controls ruin the game. I love Tetris on the phone but there’s to much wrong with this to enjoy. It doesn’t even feel like the same game. Try it and you’ll see. One star and a ‘do not recommend’ for anyone not interested in racial epithets in their vintage gaming experience. ### 1/5 — Not good *2022-07-25, version 1.10.0* This game is bad the music/songs aren’t good but the worst part is the game it’s really slow to give you new blocks after you place one which makes hard mode just as easy as normal even though the blocks move a lot faster ### 1/5 — What is it with you developers??? *2021-11-13, version 1.2.0* Who sits in the boardroom and says “let’s make the end user have to tap through 25 screens just to get started with the first game?” There is no reason to spend so much time to get started with a game of Tetris. This is how the app gets deleted. Apple Arcade is proving its self as a failure when developers make it so difficult to play 1 game!!! ### 1/5 — It doesn't... work? *2021-11-11, version 1.1.0* I love Tetris. And I've been playing music games for 22 years. So a rhythm based Tetris game should be fun, right? Well, they don't offer regular Tetris controls off the bat. And the swipe controls they do have don't even work. I tried to swipe in every possible way on the *tutorial* and could get it to work 1/3 the time. And in actual gameplay, I managed to get about 3 pieces onto the board before the song ended. The Tap mode does work, if you want the game to select terrible block placement for you on the beat. So there's that. **Developer response:** Thanks for your review - we have made a huge upgrade to hard drop and touch controls in our latest update (1.2.0) so please give it a try and let us know if that improves things for you. Please consider re-rating us if it does! ### 1/5 — Bad controller support *2021-10-29, version 1.1.0* I own many versions of Tetris including Tetris effect connected. The control support is awful and not smooth. The prices seem to go right or left on its own. I have trouble just to get Tetris going. I’m using the Xbox controller. The next pieces are too far on the top right to see. ### 2/5 — Not what I wanted. *2022-10-02, version 1.11.0* I didn’t pay close attention and thought this was a normal Tetris game. But hence the Tetris Beats name. I didn’t have sound on and maybe that caused my frustrations with the game? Randomly my pieces would change as I was trying to position them. I would have a T and suddenly I have a block instead. Also the pieces often took several taps to move to the position I wanted. They seemed to be stuck on just flip flopping between two position instead of rotating through them all to get to how I needed it. I didn’t take the time to see if this had to do with the “beats” part of things. Not what I want. I rarely use sound when I play games and I just wanted a good old fashion time waster. ### 2/5 — Poor controls, doesn’t remember settings, unnecessary loading screens, intrusive animations *2022-09-21, version 1.11.0* Controls are poor, seems like devs are more concerned with music controls than controls for the blocks. Graphics splash across the whole screen when you clear lines, making it near impossible to play past level 9 or 10 since you can’t see your next piece falling fast after you clear a line. You have to adjust your settings every time you launch the app if you don’t like the defaults, and the defaults aren’t good, so you end up needing to adjust the settings every time. There are 5 different loading screens that come up from when you launch the app to when you can actually start playing. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — 9.7 out of 10, great game. *2024-04-06* if you are looking for a tetris game on your phone, this is a goodie. great job! awesome songs, setup, gameplay, etc. however, there’s one thing in the gameplay that could use some improvement, and that is moving the blocks from left to right. I wish that I didn’t have to SWIPE FURIOUSLY to just get the block to move to the right a wee bit, so i’m just saying that it would be nice to increase the sensitivity. don’t change anything else though, just that because i frickin dang love this game.(excuse my french). okay bye :] ### 5/5 — Tetris Beat *2023-04-06* I understand the name is Tetris BEAT but it would be great if when you turn the music OFF in the settings it would stay that way. Also, most cases for the iPad have a stand that works horizontal, not vertical as this game is so you have to find another stand or hold the game up with your other hand to play. Thank goodness they don’t make me play the Mac version in vertical fashion. Otherwise the game is a five. I was 8 it was two gifts Tetris and a gameboy Tetris has always been my favorite game I was born in 1976 I am a big FAN of Nintendo ### 5/5 — It's Tetris - what else do you want? *2022-07-20, version 1.10.0* We play on a base M1 Mac Mini and Apple TV with Xbox One controllers. The precision seems great using the D-pad (up/down/left/right). They recently added keyboard control config. Normally we are into the classic marathon mode but the others are fun at times too. I finally redownloaded it again today because the concept clearly has potential. I am pleasantly surprised to see that the biggest issues are fixed, and it now feels like a game I’ll put some hours into. I still have a couple of issues with the game, but they’re minor: · It’s unclear what the three audio calibration options do, and which of them to select. A much better way to handle the audio calibration would be to implement a calibration “test” system - see Guitar Hero or Spin Rhythm’s audio lag calibration menus. · Navigating the menu system feels very clunky with a controller. Specifically, trying to scroll down the list of songs with my Xbox controller, only the d-pad works, and you can’t hold “up” or “down” to scroll faster. Add joystick support or a way to scroll faster. Also, certain menu options are inaccessible with a controller. Again in the song list, I am unable to change the sorting option without touching the screen. · Certain game settings aren’t accessible from the settings tab in the main menu. You must have started playing a song, then pause, then select settings to see these options. All in all, the core gameplay feels good, and that’s what matters. Improvements to gamepad are coming in the next update later this week ### 5/5 — Amazing *2022-03-03, version 1.5.0* This game is exactly what I needed for this time in my life. Video games have always been important to me and not being able to have my consoles or have a foothold on my life, this game is keeping me at least somewhat busy. The only thing I wish with all my heart is that it was made to be played offline permanently. It worked before and now it doesn’t.
