### 2/5 — Not Cool

*2026-07-13, version 30.2.4*

I really enjoy my digital subscription to Texas Monthly and was enjoying the iOS app until pop up ads began automatically opening new windows in Safari. Every few paragraphs, while reading an article, a random url opens showing a blank webpage. This is incredibly annoying, and I will be deleting the app and reading issues in a bowser instead.

### 2/5 — Not working properly

*2026-03-21, version 30.0.2*

The links to log in or check the subscription disappear

### 4/5 — Great reading experience, just having trouble logging in

*2024-05-20, version 30*

The app is well designed and has a pleasant layout for reading on the phone. The one thing that is frustrating is that the Log In button in the top right corner always disappears before I can use it, so I am not able to access my account from the app.

### 2/5 — Login window needs fixing

*2024-05-08, version 30*

At first, I couldn’t find the login prompt. Once I logged in, the login screen reappeared over the main window every time I returned to the main screen from an article. I had to manually close it each time before I could proceed. The Texas Monthly content is five stars, but this annoying bug in the app dropped my app rating considerably. Subscribe, by all means, just use the website instead for online reading.

### 3/5 — Unintuitive

*2024-03-23, version 30*

This is the MOST unintuitive magazine app in the store. I want to log in and read the latest issues for my flight. I cannot figure out how to do that in the app. I have a doctorate and a masters degree, and I am stumped.

### 3/5 — Download issues for offline???

*2023-12-09*

Why can’t TM provide a way to download the issues for offline access? As in for airplane trips when wifi isn’t working? This was once an option. Frustrating.

### 1/5 — Website front-end

*2023-01-27, version 30*

The new app appears to just be a pass-through to the website. I have been a digital-only subscriber for years via the App Store, but with the new app there is seemingly no way to access my paid-for and still active subscription including paid for back issues. This new app is terrible, and should not exist in the first place if the sole purpose is to just re-display the Texas Monthly website…banner advertisements and all.

### 1/5 — Won’t retain my log-in

*2022-12-23, version 23.0*

This app keeps asking for log-in despite being a subscriber. Compared to other subscription apps used, this one ranks last. Fix this or I not renew my subscription.

### 1/5 — TM Ap

*2022-12-02, version 23.0*

Ap does not work even though I have a digital subscription. Customer Service is non existent.

### 1/5 — Poor app

*2022-11-14, version 23.0*

I can not recover any back issues. The website is poorly designed.

### 1/5 — Buggy App

*2022-10-26, version 23.0*

Monthly issues will not load occasionally. Considering canceling subscription.

### 1/5 — Paid but can’t log in

*2022-06-05, version 23.0*

Paid but can’t log in. Reset password, still can’t log in. Very frustrated

### 1/5 — UGH

*2022-05-25, version 23.0*

Every time I open my app to catch up on what’s happening in my home state it advises me that I need to subscribe to read the articles…
I am subscribed.
I am logged in.
Why can’t I just read about Texas y’all?!

### 1/5 — Very Frustrating App

*2021-11-18, version 23.0*

The magazine is great but the app is so buggy. One has to log in repeatedly. Makes it a pain in the *** to try and read TM on mobile devices; defeats the purpose of having the digital subscription. Please fix the bug when going back and forth between issue selector and articles — when I do that, I have to constantly log in.

### 2/5 — Review

*2021-04-01, version 21.0*

It’s annoying that you take upon yourselves to enterup our enjoyment of your magazine!

### 1/5 — I should have ordered the magazine by mail

*2021-03-23, version 21.0*

The AP wants to log me off as a non subscriber even though I logged in with my subscription.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Login disappears

*2026-01-16, version 30*

Login on iPhone disappears seconds after opening the app so I get constant pop ups and ads.

### 1/5 — When will app be fixed

*2025-12-06, version 30*

So frustrating- great magazine, can’t understand the log in issues obviously are struggle for many!

### 1/5 — No worth the money

*2025-09-16, version 30*

Too many adds, web based content and no offline reading

### 1/5 — App Won’t Fly

*2025-08-13, version 30*

The app is mostly just a mirror of the website. You can “flip through” a digital copy of the magazine (60% ads), but you can’t download past editions for offline reading. You can go through your browser and download a single, low-res version of one issue, but you lose it if you close the window. The whole point of a magazine is portability, but this app is really built for reading articles at home on WiFi. (Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some clouds to yell at outside.)

### 1/5 — Super Weak and Maddening Magazine App

*2025-06-02, version 30*

This is the worst iPad app of any of the many other daily and monthly periodicals that I subscribe to and read on my iPad. (My comments here are limited to the TM app, which is horrible, and not TM magazine itself, which is phenomenal.) TM's iPad app requires me to login constantly -- including during the same reading of an article -- in a way that no other app requires me to login. It's not possible to download and read offline. I’m often required to "press and hold" a button to revalidate who I am, just after re-logging in for the umpteenth time. It has no memory -- so every time I pick up the magazine, I have to remember and then find where I left off in an article via a page-by-page turn of the magazine. There's no product feature that allows me jump into the middle of the magazine to the start of a new article -- which means I must turn every page to get to the start of a new article in the middle of the magazine. TM's iPad app is a mindboggling step backward from what its iPad app used to be and massive step away from what other high-end periodicals provide. (Again, we love TM magazine; it's just that we hate TM's iPad edition.)

### 1/5 — Can’t login/not renewing subscription

*2025-04-21, version 30*

My mother is elderly and has trouble with her vision reading on a tablet allows her to increase the size of text easily. She loves Texas monthly however we can login in. We will not be renewing subscription because of this such a shame.

### 1/5 — Fix Log in Issues pleaseeee

*2025-03-04, version 30*

Would love to use the app but there isn’t a clear log in destination. It just keeps opening up the website though the app

### 1/5 — Fix the app

*2024-05-27, version 30*

Can’t log in. Can’t download for airplane mode. This app is unbearable.

### 1/5 — No download

*2024-02-03*

Still no download option when wifi or internet not available. This was once available… updated app provides no download option that works for airplane mode…?? Guess I’ll just keep on killing trees with TM in print when I travel.

### 1/5 — Cannot login

*2023-06-19, version 30*

App is truly impossible to login to, it will not allow you to do so, this rendering it useless. Searching for a third party app to access my subscription

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Texas Monthly

*2022-08-01, version 23.0*

Texas Monthly is the answer to any Texan who misses their state like a starving man needs food or a person in dire need of Oxygen. Texas Monthly is indeed the oxygen to my soul!

### 5/5 — Texas Monthly, a wonderful read.

*2022-02-01, version 23.0*

I stumbled across Texas Monthly because of Steve Earle. He did that cover of Dublin Blues, where it mentions Mad Dog Margaritas at the Chile Parlor Bar. When I googled that, I got the Texanist’s column about Mad Dog Margaritas, and I was hooked. But then I read some stories, very well written , and I was subscribed. I highly recommend it.

### 5/5 — Still the Best

*2021-01-14, version 21.0*

Texas Monthly continues to provide great news & insights to their readers about the Lone Star state!

### 5/5 — Long time subscriber

*2020-12-12, version 21.0*

Now even more enjoyment in using my iPad app to read it

### 5/5 — Gotta Read It

*2020-10-15, version 21.0*

I love and always look forward to my monthly subscription of Texas Monthly. The sharing of humorous, heartfelt and informative Texas stories is the best in this magazine. It always makes me feel proud to be a Texan. (Maybe not always the Bum Steer Awards)

### 5/5 — The Best

*2020-08-19, version 21.0*

The best magazine in the world!

### 5/5 — Every True Texan knows TM

*2020-01-12, version 19.0*

Must have TEXAS Chic!

### 5/5 — Account Bug Resolved

*2019-11-04, version 17.0*

I had the same issue that some users reported. Changed my password on texasmonthly.com and was finally able to link my account into the app. I had done this multiple times before with no success but now it’s not an issue. Also, I like how you can have an app account instead of just using Facebook to sync devices because I don’t have a FB account anymore. Great changes!

### 5/5 — Texas Monthly performs

*2019-09-21, version 16.0*

Every month Texas Monthly does not disappoint its readers. Intelligent and focused articles which feeds one’s senses. Can’t wait for the next issue.

### 5/5 — Great magazine

*2018-10-15, version 12.0*

Love the digital format.
