### 2/5 — Unusable

*2019-08-27*

I’m only giving this two stars because the app has worked ok for me for a number of months but it is now completely unusable. I have 8 purchased tickets and no way to access them. The only time I am able to access the “purchased” tickets section is now after I have bought more tickets, with a minimum spend of £4! I have gone through the process of buying to access my purchased tickets a couple of times, assuming it’s a glitch that will be fine next time but apparently not! No intention of spending more on tickets I apparently won’t be able to use. Glad that the buses now accept contactless because that seems to be my best option now.

### 2/5 — Badly developed.

*2019-02-20*

Terrible app. After months without support for iPhone X screens sizes the app was finally updated, but with numerous obvious glitches (was it not tested?). Then after a few weeks, instead of resolving the issues, they just revert the update and we’re back to having black bars at the top and bottom of the app again. Seriously??

Most annoying is the ridiculous delay between tapping the Activate button and the ticket actually activating. The app basically locks up for several seconds even on an iPhone X. Sometimes, despite tapping to activate the ticket when I can see the bus approaching the stop, it’s still not activated by the time I’ve get on and am showing it to the driver, resulting in the whole bus being held up due to the crap app.

### 1/5 — Initially great - now not working at all

*2018-09-06*

Unfortunately this App has now died on my iphone 7 - it immediately crashes whenever I try to open it. Earlier this week it started failing and would complain of lack of network connection when the network was fine, meaning I could neither share nor purchase new tickets. Restarting my phone made no difference to its behaviour. I have at least £10 worth of tickets tied up in this broken app which I can no longer use. Until they fully resolve all their recent issues I cannot recommend this app at all.
Initially this app was okay and worked well in the sense you don’t have to keep a pocketful of change handy and I can buy tickets for my son. However I also missed a bus once because they app suddenly dropped me into the login page just as I was about to board and I could not recover my password quickly enough, so please beware. It’s a good concept but currently poorly implemented and operationalised.

### 2/5 — Bugs!

*2018-09-06*

The app keeps crashing and so makes it unusable, please fix ASAP!

### 1/5 — Don’t upgrade if you need your tickets!!

*2018-08-13*

When you upgrade to the latest version you lose your current tickets and have to request a transfer and wait for approval!! What?!? Don’t upgrade if you need to use your tickets urgently! The upgrade says “improve user quality of life”: sorry but not being able to take a bus (with tickets I have paid for) is not improving my quality of life!!

### 1/5 — So many issues

*2018-04-18*

Ridiculous amount of issues with this app, tried to buy 6 tickets with Apple Pay, kept saying payment failed and then finally worked and the 6 tickets showed up. I had already missed my bus by this point. Then I checked my bank later and over £30 had come out and after a while 18 tickets showed up in the app. This then happened again a few weeks later. Basically if it says payment failed it’s actually went through fine it’s just that the app is so poorly made and designed. Would love to go into the other issues but they seem to be covered in other reviews. Just get a bus pass from a travel shop and save yourself the hassle.

### 2/5 — will throw out unexpired tickets

*2017-11-04*

Nominally 4 star performance, but ocassionally (twice this year that i’ve noticed) it will expire a whole bunch of your tickets without reason, even if only a few weeks old. I managed to catch this twice, but it might have happened more often. Just happened again even after warning the supplier earlier in the year about this, so 2 stars for no interest shown in fixing the problem, and trying to confiscate at least several 10s of pounds.

### 2/5 — Unreliable app

*2017-10-25*

This app is convenient in the sense I don’t need to get bus change and spend extra money - I don’t get quite enough buses to justify a rida card. However, the app is unreliable, sometimes tickets disappear, it’s glitchy and slow in that when you activate a ticket sometimes it just won’t activate and it’s currently telling me my basket is 17 items worth £32 yet there’s only 7 items in it. No visible option to empty basket. Reinstalling until I do invest in a rida card but this app has made me late for work several times because of its failure to function.

### 1/5 — Minimum £10 is a joke

*2017-10-19*

As an infrequent bus user I do not want to spend more than ten pound in one transaction just so I can use one bus ride. Absolute scam and totally unnecessary! Even if I did buy the minimum requirement (of at least SEVEN single fares!) they would expire within 180 days!

This app is supposed to stop people from needing to find change for a bus (the fact you don’t give change is another outrageous scam but that’s another story) yet I can’t just buy one single ticket as and when I would need it? Pathetic attempt for a cashless payment system.

Lothian Buses needs a system like Oyster where you can pay as you go. Even Oyster is redundant now that single journeys can easily be paid for via a contectless bank card. Not everybody wants to or needs to buy multiple journeys at a time which is what LB forces its customers to do; either by using this app or by using a Ridacard.

### 1/5 — Just missed my bus due to this app

*2017-09-19*

The base functionality of this app is good and useful, I like having to not worry about carrying change and the integration with Apple Pay is nice. When things work, fine.

But the implementation is atrocious. The app is slow, crashes far too often, or locks up with no sign of life.

I was compelled to write this review because due to this app I just missed my bus. I had 3 single tickets on my account but wanted to buy a day ticket - did so, working around the frustrating £10 limit - and on checking out the app told me things had worked fine. Imagine my confusion when I check the app as my bus arrives to see 0 available tickets?

None. Not the ones I'd just bought, or the three I had previously. Closing and reopening the app didn't help. I had to embarrassingly back out of the bus. Inexplicably the tickets finally appeared after 5 mins of closing and reopening the app.

There is no excuse for this app to be this bad. It doesn't do enough to justify being slow. What I experienced was unacceptable.

### 1/5 — Not even worth 1 star - appalling app

*2017-09-11*

After trying to pay for my ticket at the machine using a card, I found that Edinburgh tram are still operating in the dark ages as it's not possible to pay by card unless you spend a minimum of £3 - which is a massively unfair penalty when your fare is meant to cost £1.60.

I downloaded the app as I thought this would solve the problem but found you have to spend a minimum of £10 to make a purchase!!

Thus after a wasted 45 minutes finding a cash machine and a convenience store to make a purchase for change, I'm left feeling annoyed and can only conclude this utterly customer-unfriendly exact-change only / exorbitant minimum spend is a ploy to exploit those of us living in the 21st century.

### 1/5 — Absolute disaster of an a App

*2017-08-13*

You can't hold separate tickets for family members on the one phone - OK I get that.
Our family phones are linked to one account so when you down load the app on the first phone to buy the tickets, you'd think easy enough to download the app on the other phones and transfer them.

Oh No!

Download the app on the other family member phone and the app automatically opens. You can't transfer as it considers it the same device.

I thought I transferred 4 tickets to one device leaving 4 on mine.

Checked my phone and the login has altered; my 4 tickets are on a previous install; it asks to transfer - when you do - you can't make a second transfer in 6 months

This app is an absolute disaster for family linked phones. The customer contact is not open on the weekend.

All I can say that this is the most frustrating and complicated ticket app ever. Should have paid cash - far less hassle.

I should have listened to those other disastrous reviews.

You have to give this 1 star to rate, but it really should have a negative five star

### 1/5 — Useless!

*2017-08-11*

Whilst this was downloading I read the reviews which appraised me of the triple limitations of; £10 minimum pay, 180 day expiry, and one customer per app!!! My wife and I visit Edinburgh for short periods at a time, and this scam would lead to us paying £20 per visit and likely not be able to use up all the tickets, which would expire before our next visit! We have Oystercards for when we visit London and happily load them with credit, confident that the credit will remain available to us regardless of when we next need it. This app is useless for us in comparison. I deleted it as soon as it finished downloading…

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — As a tourist just buy paper tickets

*2024-02-28*

.

### 1/5 — Sign up screen can’t scroll to the bottom for iPhone Promax 14 screen

*2023-09-05*

Bad UX design.
Can’t use.

### 1/5 — Poor function of the App

*2022-12-14*

This app insulted everyone who has an iPhone, due to it’s poor functionality the ticket shared by a friend could not be accessed as the app was crashing and came with a error message that “this version of the app can’t be accessed, and needs to be updated” even though it was the updated version. The driver insulted myself and everyone one else who was with us and kicked us out of HIS BUS. Not once but twice. According to him the bundle of 5 adults day rider can be used by only one person in 1 phone for 5 days. He does route no:34, SA15 VUB. I WOULD LIKE THE AUTHORITIES TO TAKE STRICT ACTION ON THE JERK DRIVER AND FOR GODSAKE PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE WITH THE APP. MY FIRST DAY IN EDINBURGH WAS RUINED. THANK YOU APP DEVELOPERS AND THANK YOU LOTHIAN FOR SUCH KIND EMPLOYEES WHO TRAIN THEIR STAFF ON HOW TO TREAT CUSTOMERS WITH GOOD AMOUT OF RUDENESS AND SPITE.

### 1/5 — Useless. Lost money

*2022-02-05*

This app used to be okay but now it crashes every time I try and use it. I’ve stored day tickets that I can’t access and on boarding the bus just now, the ticket activated but the app kept crashing every time I tried to show it to driver so I had to pay by card. I’d decided to get the bus home instead of the train to save money but at £3.60 I’ve saved very little and added 45 mins to my journey. Will be deleting as soon as these tickets have been used, if I can use them, or trying to get a refund from LB. Don’t download.

### 1/5 — Broken user journey

*2019-04-16*

This app was not great to start with: minimum payment amount (that has finally been lowered now), the ticket transfer between devices was just very archaic and bad (why not just link them to the account?? Why do I need to transfer my tickets between devices? Why do I have to wait 6 months between these transfers??), it would crash quite often, etc. But now, the issue is even bigger in the sense that on iOS, when you open the app, you are directly directed to the buy tickets menu. You cannot go back since there is no back button on iOS, and you are just stuck there and cannot use your already bought tickets unless you buy new ones. Could you fix your application please? It is seriously becoming a problem now as it is pretty much unusable. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Why £10 minimum?

*2018-12-20*

Don’t bother if you’re a tourist. Just get an Uber.

Edinburgh obviously doesn’t want tourists to use public transport.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2018-09-11*

Lately the glitches have been very bad. App refuses to open even when I delete it and re-download it so can’t rely on it. Can’t believe it’s an official Lothian bused app when it’s this bad

### 1/5 — Unreliable, faulty

*2018-09-10*

Recently the app has been malfunctioning just as I am about to use it. I have went on the app just as I am about to board a bus. The bus drivers will not let you on if the app is not working. I appreciate that is your policy but it leaves people in pretty difficult situations if they are needing to be somewhere and do not have any change.

This has happened 3 times to me in the last few weeks and a few times to other people I know. It wouldn’t be such an issue if it was very infrequent but the frequency of the malfunctioning is extremely off-putting.

### 1/5 — Worst app I have ever used

*2018-09-07*

Tried and failed repeatedly to sign up and buy tickets. At each step the app froze or told me I had no internet connection when I had full 4G signal and unlimited data. The furthest I got was putting tickets in my basket but trying to check out was just too much for the app, it couldn’t make it any further to let me actually purchase the tickets and would either stick at that stage or just crash and send me back to step one. After around 30 minutes of trying I have given up and will use cash on the bus. Good luck if you decide to use this app, you will need it.

### 1/5 — App Keeps crashing at the worst times!!

*2018-09-07*

Recently downloaded the app, as I didn’t have time to top up my Ridacard before heading to work. After spending the minimum amount on single tickets, my journeys to work have been fine. HOWEVER, I am currently on nightshifts and today and yesterday I had the issue where the app crashes before I can activate my ticket for my bus home. Receiving the error message about not having a stable mobile connection when I know I have data and full coverage is a joke. Also tried connecting to the bus WiFi but still got the same error. Luckily enough the drivers have been nice enough to let me on but considering the amount you expect users to pay if it maybe temporary is a joke. The app really does need looked at as it should be able to work even without a connection if tickets have been paid for already....

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Useless

*2018-09-06*

This app was working fine until you made recent changes and now when you log on it returns your screen to black. You then reload and cant access as it doesn’t connect to WiFi or 4g. So whilst sitting on bus I can’t access my tickets so I’m asked to leave the bus. It is beyond belief that you haven’t fixed this and it is a disgrace that you have this contract in the first place when such errors occur and are not rectified. Utterly appalling and you wonder why people take their car.

### 5/5 — Perfect for travel around city

*2017-11-20*

We were in Edinburgh for 4 days, this was perfect! Paid for a Family Day pass, actually paid for 2 at a time as you have to spend at least 10 GBP each purchase. The pass was 8.75 and gave access to the buses and trams for 24 hours for 2 adults and 2 children, we are 2 adults and one 15 year old (who counts as a child) so this was the best “getting around” option. Just showed the app screen to driver or the porter asking for tickets.

### 5/5 — Highly recommended

*2017-10-18*

Very happy with the mTicket and the accompanying Bus & Tram app. Creating an account, buying tickets and using the m-ticket on the bus is super easy.

### 5/5 — Extremely easy to purchase tickets

*2017-07-30*

My family and I went to Edinburgh on holiday and used the bus system to get around town. Our previous experience with bus systems in big cities was our trip to Dublin and that was kind of chaotic. I was very impressed on how easy it was to get on and off the bus and buy tickets with this app. We simply purchased five family day passes with the app and it loads right up for us to use. It puts all the tickets in your "available" section and as you need to use them, you activate one ticket at a time per day and it expires at 4 AM I believe. All you have to do is hold your phone up to the bus driver and he lets you on, it's that easy.

I would highly recommend this app to help you get around Edinburgh, along with the Bus & Tram app, which will help you plan your bus and tram routes to get you to where you need to go in Edinburgh.

### 5/5 — Best of its kind

*2016-04-16*

I use transit all over the world. This app makes Edinburgh one of the easiest to pay for. And it even takes credit cards from abroad, unlike for example any way of paying Transport for London online.

### 5/5 — Mrs alqattan

*2013-11-28*

Very good app👍

### 4/5 — 4

*2024-04-26*

Useful app, but please fix an issue when app freezes for about a minute every time you open it - it doesn't crash but complete freezes, then just un-freeze after about a minute. That's causing problems when you need to open and active a ticket quickly, and some drivers aren't patience enough to wait this long

### 4/5 — Good...

*2018-09-07*

Needs a spot to purchase a child ticket for my under 8 year-old who does not have his own phone.

### 4/5 — Great if your in town more than 4 days

*2017-08-29*

The app is so very easy to use, never worry you don't have exact change. Between this and the bus route app they are a great pair. The only down side is you have to purchase a min £10 which is 7 individual tickets or 3 day passes. There is an option to share tickets (each person would need their own phones) so maybe you can get one person to buy and then you could hit the minimum.

### 3/5 — Why only 1 ticket per device?

*2023-09-14*

The app seems great for buying tickets but it’s almost useless since it allows only one ticket per device.
