My only issue is that sometimes it can be really hard to find words when searching by transcription, you have to use particular letter combinations that represent the way specific phonetic alphabets work, rather than simple intuitive spelling, which can be tedious and tricky. Also, the search results are often presented in a very strange order, with the simple and obvious results buried way down below many complex and often irrelevant words and sentences. Other than these annoying quirks, this is a 5 star app. ### 5/5 — Stopped working — hangs at startup *2020-12-02* This app was five star but recently it has stopped working. It hangs on the splash screen at startup and has to be force-quit. This happens on phones of other family members (XS Pro Max) also so it’s not specific to my phone (11 Pro Max). EDIT: uninstalling and reinstalling fixed it. Updated review to five stars. ### 5/5 — Great app. Gives tones for English speakers. *2019-08-04* This is the only dictionary app I’ve found that includes the romanized spelling of Thai words along with the tone so that you can look up how a word is pronounced 👌🏻👌🏻 ### 5/5 — Highly useful *2019-06-13, version 2.0* Highly useful if you are a non-Thai speaker. It even had “catalytic converter” for the mechanic!! Love the phonetic spelling, the option the have it spoken, & that putting phone in landscape makes the word really big. I seriously have no suggestions for improvements! I’m moving from iOS to android, though, and cannot find this app. Time to leave Thailand. 555+ ### 5/5 — Great dictionary *2018-11-24, version 2.0* Easy to use, when you enter an English word it gives you a series of definitions so that you can choose the right Thai word. ### 5/5 — Love it *2018-11-02* It’s a great companion for me when I’m practicing my handwritten and spelling. This is so useful to check whether I’m reading properly. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — very confusing to me *2020-07-29* it seems like every word i use with my thai wife is incorrect in its definition with this app. i’m not sure why but it is very frustrating. **Developer response:** You raise a fair point. This dictionary aims to be comprehensive, and does include a great deal of seldomly used and archaic expressions. For Thai-English translation, you will find many possible senses of a Thai term in English. When it comes to English-Thai translation, it can be difficult to know which of the possible Thai terms is in fact commonly used. ### 1/5 — Used to be best *2015-03-03, version 1.7.6* Living in Thailand this has been the best app I have tried. Until the last update where it now doesn't work at all. Apart from that the content is good. Really unfortunate that you have to go through 4,329 results MANUALLY to find the meaning of มา ... ### 2/5 — What is the problem? *2020-01-16* I have had it for months. This is the only app that always says " unable to download " every time I try to update! I have deleted and re-installed but no use. **Developer response:** Dear Fred. Please try downloading the latest version 🙏 ### 3/5 — iOS < 7 support? *2013-11-15, version 1.1* Is there any chance that this will be compiled with the iOS6 SDK as well to make it available to users of older devices (eg. 3gs) who can't upgrade to iOS7? I understand that it might not be possible if it relies on newer libraries that aren't available in older versions. ### 4/5 — Very helpful *2023-01-02* I find this app very helpful to my Thai studies. It has a plethora of vocabulary and the categories make it easy to find groups of words. One thing that would make the app easier to use is if the “bookmark function” wasn’t as inaccessible. An app called ‘Imiwa?’ Which is a Japanese-English dictionary has a really good example of the quick bookmark function. If the star or bookmark function was available when on that word, it would make the app easier to use for studying. ### 4/5 — Was good but no longer open *2020-12-30, version 2.1* It’s a good app with lots of examples. But somehow it no longer works and hangs on the splash screen. ### 4/5 — wonderful translation/dictionary app, wish i could draw out letters *2019-08-19* amazing translation app. my only wish is that i had the option to type by drawing the letters themselves on the screen and have them turn into letters instead of going on the keyboard because as a new thai learner it’s easier for me to draw the letters and vowels out than to find it on the keyboard. ### 4/5 — Good App *2018-12-10, version 2.0* It’s a good app but it needs to use simpler example sentences. For example: this is the word รูปแบ in a example sentence and it’s translation beneath. เป็น “รูปแบบ” ที่ถูกกล่าวหาว่าอำนาจบริหารกับนิติบัญญัติฮั้วกันเพื่อคอรัปชั่น "This is a model which is accused of being a collusion between of the executive and legislative powers which results in corruption." I’m a native English speaker and would never ever use a sentence like that in my life. And as someone who has living experience in Thailand you would probably only meet about 1 in every million Thai person to speak like that either... Very useful. I’d really appreciate it if you could add a feature that allow users to search their bookmarked words so they can find them more easily. Not only is this app easy to use, but also provides good cultural insights into the language. ### 5/5 — Top translation app. *2025-10-29, version 4.3* No complaints. Only praise. For some stupid reason, Apple makes it very difficult to find 80% of the content on the App Store. Things are great for the stupid social apps by the Big Players, but good “unusual” apps, seem to be lost in the dark corners of App Forest. This is one of those apps. I sometimes spend hours looking for good apps, and they’re always buried deep. But, when you find one like this, I feel that the time is well spent. The problem is, most people are too lazy to look. Anyway… I’m not good with learning new languages, especially Thai. This superb product always helps when I need it. Always !! “No Data Collected”, is also nice to see. Good luck with your app development. Thank you for making my life in Thailand a little bit easier. Best free app ever! *2025-01-31, version 4.1* One of the best apps I’ve ever downloaded. Latin alphabet transcriptions are done very well, better than Google Translate (Apple Translate doesn’t even do them). I love the depth of explaining components of words, explaining words we don’t have an equivalent for eg ครับ (kráp) and that you can type how Thai sounds, if you can’t write it eg ‘sawatdeekrap’. This app has been invaluable to me and I can’t believe it is totally free. I have been using the App Store for 14 years and this is the best free, third-party app I have ever downloaded. Highly recommended for anyone learning (Central) Thai.
