### 4/5 — You gotta give it to them!!

*2014-01-10, version 1.1*

Excellent game overall. This game plays much like the old school Mortal Kombat games which to me means a lot. All the stages are well designed and the music is excellent! Could use an alternate phrase or two during power moves. I wonder if some of the sweet instrumentals will ever make it to a new album....?

### 2/5 — Bad Controls

*2013-12-24, version 1.1*

A fun game when it works. Controls are horrible though, d-pad is very unresponsive, and often has a mind of its own.

### 4/5 — More AW

*2013-07-31, version 1.1*

I love C&C's music but I'm pretty unfamiliar with the story so it was fun to see some of the characters and levels.

As for the game the controls feel clunky and the game is kind of "meh." I'd love to see some dialogue and story in it.

What I really want is more Amory Wars video games set in this universe so I'm hoping my contribution by purchasing this game will help with development of future Amory Wars video games.

### 2/5 — Appreciate the idea but,

*2013-05-29, version 1.1*

The follow through is sub-par.

The "Story Mode" has absolutely no story to it, it is just a pre-generated sequence of battles.

The engine is extremely choppy, unresponsive, and unfavorable to the common 2d fighter. Attacks are quite delayed if they happen at all, the special move toggle is independent of player position, the defense action works <50% of the time, and the characters' attack speed and damage are not balanced.

### 3/5 — Gameplay improved

*2013-04-29, version 1.1*

The update has improved gameplay, but like most fans I wish this had more story elements in it. I love the little nods to the music and story with character lines and locations, but I think there should be more. The controller button is still a little touchy. I think a d-pad variant might work better.

### 3/5 — Just a tiny bit better

*2013-04-25, version 1.1*

The gameplay with this update is a little better, but its still missing something. It just doesn't feel natural

### 3/5 — Better?

*2013-04-25, version 1.1*

I really hope this update brings this game justice. Coheed and Cambria has been perfect. Lets make this game up to par people!

### 3/5 — 3 and a half stars.

*2013-04-10, version 1.0*

The only thing preventing this game from being good is a lack of options (sound slider and more) and very unresponsive and clunky controls. If these are fixed, then I'd definitely say this is a 5 star fighting game for iOS.

### 3/5 — Great looks, poor execution a big disappointment

*2013-04-08, version 1.0*

Being a fan of the band and the comic series, as well as loving beat em up games I thought I'd give this a go. The graphics are slick but the awful controls and clunky gameplay make this a huge disappointment. The comics and music surrounding the amory wars are rich and detailed, but this feels more like a fans bedroom flash game than an official associated app. Stick to buying the music and comics, you're not missing anything here without the underlying mechanics getting a massive overhaul!

### 3/5 — Love it! But still feels Beta.

*2013-04-08, version 1.0*

Using the new ipad, I am an avid Coheed and Cambria, the Amory Wars, Everything Evilink. (pun intended)With that said..
This game needs work. From graphical polish, to the way more needy controls and control schemes. Also much more content like photos, videos, characters, levels, wallpapers.....ANYTHING.
Keep up the amazing work COca! I'm extremely happy to be playing Amory wars!

### 2/5 — Crap App.

*2013-04-06, version 1.0*

This is why I hate the App Store! No Try before you buy. For a fighting game, the fighting mechanics of this game are horrible! I really wish I could get a refund for this game.

With the mechanics, the controls are lackluster at best. Pressing the punch and kick buttons are delayed significantly which can make things very frustrating. Also, when attacking, there isn't a lot of range on the attacks, so you can't really develop any chain attacks or combos. The most I can get for a combo is 3 hits, 2 punches followed by a special attack. Do not jump in this game. Jumping has only one distance, so once you figure it out, dodging attacks become easy. Once the opponent is down, it is very easy to wait until "wakeup" to punish them some more.

The story mode does not have a story whatsoever. Instead, you just fight a series of characters in a predetermined order. When you beat the game, you are simply thanked for playing the game. As for multiplayer, I've yet to play anyone, due to a lack of players.

Overall, what suffers in this game is the controls. Again, attacks and movement is delayed and sometimes not recognized, which makes things frustrating. If the controls were more fluid like Capcom's Street Fighter IV, this game could be a lot more fun. I've been waiting since June for this game, and got really excited for it, but it didn't live up to my idea of what it could be. Would've been nice to see a X-men Legends Action/RPG type of game.

Sorry Claudio and EvilInk, but you missed the mark this time.

### 3/5 — It's alright...

*2013-04-06, version 1.0*

I'm a huge coheed fan and although this isn't my type of game, I thought "why not give the genre a chance..."

The look and feel of the game are good, it's not clunky like a lot of iGames. It's smooth and well crafted... Until the gameplay itself, I have to agree with everyone here in that the controls seem... Off somehow? The games also crying out for some sort of practice mode. I found myself getting destroyed without any hope of finding combos or moves. So perhaps that would be an easy implementation.

The graphics and sound are delicious, but a little let down by the gameplay :(

### 4/5 — One among the fence

*2013-04-06, version 1.0*

Art is great, characters are well done. Not a fan of these games, I find the controls cumbersome and it's more button mashing than anything. I purchased to support Coheed!

### 3/5 — CONTROLS!!!!!

*2013-04-05, version 1.0*

Everything is cool about this game except for the terrible controls. An update with some responsiveness would help...

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — What's with all the five stars

*2013-05-24, version 1.1*

This is probably the most unbalanced fighting game I've ever played. I love that Evilink is making the effort to dive into this market and I love The Amory Wars but this game is bad. Better controls would do wonders for this game considering it lacks in content. More responsive buttons would help a lot too. I'm not saying the game needs to be super fast but it's slow as it is.

### 1/5 — Broken gameplay

*2013-04-27, version 1.1*

Ignore the fanboys, Street fighter has more plot than this, the everything is just off and sloppy. I love coheed but Claudio should be embarrassed that this game was released in this state. Clearly has plenty of problems. They should have done some JRPG style game, would be way better than this crap

### 1/5 — Suffers from poor controls

*2013-04-17, version 1.0*

I downloaded the game on the iPad (4th gen) because I'm a huge Coheed fan. The swipe mechanism for special attacks is cool. The directional/movement controls, however, are extremely poor, to the point that the game is frustrating instead of fun, and borderline unplayable.

### 1/5 — Awesome idea but...

*2013-04-11, version 1.0*

Really cool thought, but the controls make this the absolute WORST iOS fighter I've played. I've got KoF and SFIV on the iOS, and they are quite enjoyable. The "joystick" only responds if you keep you thumb constantly on it and even then, you must move within the small circle of movement they give you. Stray outside of it, and your movements won't register. Should be an easy patch fix, so hopefully they throw us fans a bone!

### 1/5 — Wow

*2013-04-08, version 1.0*

Bad. So bad.

### 1/5 — What is this cuz it can't be a game

*2013-04-07, version 1.0*

Ok I live the band but this game is a joke. whoever gave this game any stars at all must have just arrived on earth when this game came out. There is NO control whatsoever you might as well just remove p and k as they really have no use at all no combo system the people that made this game should be fired. Don't buy this garbage.

### 1/5 — Big fan, great band, bad game.

*2013-04-06, version 1.0*

Been a die hard fan for years. Love the music, love the shows, love the comics, but this game is pretty bad. Looks cool enough, but frame rate can drop pretty dramatically, and the controls are awful. Please update and fix, this game has great potential.

### 1/5 — Yuck

*2013-04-05, version 1.0*

Unresponsive and lacking in enjoyment. Looks okay for an app fighter but gameplay leaves EVERYTHING to be desired. Fix and update soon.

### 1/5 — This app is garbage

*2013-04-05, version 1.0*

I love this band but this app is nothing but a disappointment. The controls are horrid. There is zero responsiveness whatsoever to the movement of your character.

### 1/5 — Just not good

*2013-04-05, version 1.0*

I love Coheed but this is not worth anyone's money. Unresponsive controls and janky frame rate just aren't gonna cut it these days.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Callum

*2013-11-22, version 1.1*

Amazing game, especially for an avid coheed fan.

### 5/5 — A personal experience

*2013-07-15, version 1.1*

I am entirely thrilled to participate in the encompassing tale of The Amory Wars through a gaming medium! It is an honor to dive into this virtual setting.

### 5/5 — Sick

*2013-07-06, version 1.1*

This game is pretty amazing.

### 5/5 — Such a fun game!

*2013-04-26, version 1.1*

It's like having Injustice on your phone!
It's a really fun game to play, especially while listening to Coheed and Cambria!!!

### 5/5 — Tasty

*2013-04-26, version 1.1*

As clunky as it was I loved it before, so I can't imagine how fun it'll be now that it's better!

### 5/5 — New Update Is Great!

*2013-04-25, version 1.1*

My biggest issue with the game was how clunky the D-Pad was and how long the matches ran. This update greatly improved both of these. The D-Pad feels much more responsive now and matches are a lot quicker. Would still love to see some bonus material, but overall very happy with the app!

### 5/5 — Cool game. Needs update.

*2013-04-20, version 1.0*

The controls need to be improved.

Another good thing would be to have the app icon say "Amory Wars" on the screen instead of the "The Amory Wars" to not have the ellipsis. Right now it looks like "The...Wars" on iPhone screens.

Keep up the good work.

### 5/5 — Can't complain.

*2013-04-08, version 1.0*

I know the game has some faults but it sure is fun. At least for me and my four year old son it is. He has beaten the game so many times, I don't understand why so many people aren't able to enjoy this game. Hopefully some updates come out soon to fix the issues the game has. I love the band, the story, and the comics, and I love this game.

### 5/5 — Really good game

*2013-04-06, version 1.0*

The game is pretty good overall. If there were some lockable new characters and videos would be really cool!

### 5/5 — Absolute must for those who love the heed

*2013-04-05, version 1.0*

Visuals, sounds, everything about this game Is awesome. Really lets you see characters in a whole new light. The controls can be unresponsive but it is the first version. Overall I'm super pleased and will be playing it nonstop
