### 3/5 — great but paywalls

*2026-09-03, version 3.6.3*

I can’t learn lots of the things due to paywalls :c

### 3/5 — Buying

*2026-06-07, version 3.6.3*

Okay, i just got this app wanting to learn sign language so i could communicate with more people. But you have to be kidding me, they give you three sections to start with and then you either have to download or buy the other sections. I know you have to make money if you make an app, but be so for real. Making someone pay after not that many videos? Plus, this is not interactive in any way,
you’re just watching videos.

### 3/5 — Can’t Purchase

*2026-05-29, version 3.6.3*

I love the basic phrases of this app, but I want to be able to have full access to all the bundles. I can’t purchase any of the bundles. I’ve emailed already and have gotten no response. If I was able to purchase the bundles, then I would give it 5 stars.

### 4/5 — Cannot Purchase

*2026-05-11, version 3.6.3*

I really love this app but when I attempt to purchase the packs, especially the full pack, it doesn’t ever take me to the page to purchase. I want to be able to use the full app so please look into this?

### 3/5 — Found one wrong sign...

*2025-07-13, version 3.6.3*

I liked this app for some time, but I just found an error in it, and that's enough to make me not trust it as a learning resource. An attractive woman (perhaps chosen for her attractiveness rather than for any particular experience with ASL) signs SIGN backwards, her front finger going down while her rear finger comes up. This motion comes more naturally to non-deaf people than does the correct motion of the front finger coming up while the rear finger goes down, which leads me to believe that this app was made by non-native signers who don't know the language as well as an instructor should. So, kind of sadly, this largely appealing app has now lost its right to reside on my phone. Lingvano is my favorite iPhone ASL resource; just wish it cost less, but I'm sure that won't be a problem for everybody, so there's my personal recommendation, fwiw...

### 3/5 — It’s not convenient to use

*2025-04-20, version 3.6.3*

I want to love this app so much but it’s very hard to. It makes me tap replay after every single video. It seems like such a small thing but after every 2 second video, it becomes annoying. A lot of signs are not presented clearly either. For example, “like”: do the thumb and the middle finger touch? Can’t see it because it isn’t shown.

### 4/5 — Decent app for beginners

*2024-12-15, version 3.6.3*

I’m not going to lie I was a little disappointed, but I it’s pretty good for beginners that want to learn. Was a perfect Jump start into my learning!

### 4/5 — Good innovation

*2024-11-09, version 3.6.3*

### 5/5 — Best app

*2024-11-06, version 3.6.3*

Amazing app, great signers and good user interface

### 5/5 — Very helpful to learn ASL

*2024-11-06, version 3.6.3*

This app is very good for beginners The signer does a really good job. When I wasn’t certain I had learnt a sign, I couldn’t sleep save that sign in a folder and revisit later on.

I started from the learners level.

I learnt my ABCs and numbers and moved on to words and tried to form sentences.

Very informative and helpful,

### 5/5 — a wonderful app

### 5/5 — Superb App

Meaningful communication through hand signs.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-06-13, version 3.6.3*

I have the newest version on my iPad. But when I start the app, it immediately shuts down.

### 1/5 — Preventing people from learning properly😡

*2025-04-11, version 3.6.3*

I’m supposed to be volunteering at a Deaf camp next year, and I was really hoping that this app could help. Instead, I have to buy all the signs that are actually useful. The only free ones are basic signs, nothing for having a conversation with. Why make us pay for free information? What do you accomplish, preventing people from learning about something they like? I’m so damn disappointed, I thought I would finally find an app that was all free, but no. You people really seem to like making money off of free information that HELPS people with Deaf families and friends.

### 1/5 — Waste of money No support

*2024-11-23, version 3.6.3*

Bought the entire set of packs a few years ago when I was learning ASL. They updated the app and lost it all. Support never responds or actually gave my money back. Save yourself the time and money…stay away from this app. Rip off!!!! It was supposed to be for life. The life of what? Ridiculous!

### 1/5 — Not accurate

*2024-10-20, version 3.6.3*

Signs are not accurate. Like hungry and hot. Very basic but not ASL

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2024-08-17, version 3.6.3*

👎👎👎 I had to do 3 thumbs down because of I didn’t it would be a double negative and become POSITIVE AAAAKJNVFDFJVHBDCJHBSXKJNCEFIBI

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2024-07-03, version 3.6.3*

All you can learn is your abc’s and how to count to ten before they make you pay for it. It is not worth it!

### 1/5 — Incorrect signs

*2023-11-15, version 3.6.2*

Lots of incorrect signs, I went on this app to help me learn ASL faster and I am currently taking ASL in school and being taught by a deaf teacher. When I was using it and I noticed a handful of signs where wrong. I do not recommend this app

### 1/5 — Error Messages

*2023-08-25, version 3.6.2*

Can’t download basic packs I keep getting error messages and app is updated there are better ones out there anyway so uninstalling this

### 1/5 — Worst customer service

*2023-01-23, version 3.5*

It’s been almost a month ago since I purchased the bundle pack and have only received an error message when attempting to install. I’ve reached out 3 times now and have gotten no response at all and the app continues to not work. I doubt I’ll even get a refund because no one has responded to my emails asking for help. I was recommended this app by friends and I will definitely not be recommending it to anyone and will make sure to tell my friends to also stop recommending it.

### 1/5 — WASTE OF MONEY!!!

*2021-12-30, version 3.3*

I bought the full version so I could learn more and it said it worked but I can't download anything. This was complete waste of my money!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Hearing Person

*2026-08-01, version 3.6.3*

I bought this app years and years ago for about $15 Canadian. It was worth every penny. It's great for a quick resource to have on hand.

### 5/5 — Exciting

*2025-11-25, version 3.6.3*

Easy and simple way to learn asl basics and more. Videos are straight forward and are watchable at two speeds making learning fun.

### 5/5 — Interpreter Recommends!

*2025-11-21, version 3.6.3*

I am a sign language interpreter, and this is the app I tell people to use if they are interested in learning asl. The user interface is so easy to navigate and I love the Deaf signers.

### 5/5 — 🥳luv it learn it

*2025-09-20, version 3.6.3*

I love this app it quite comprehensive and easy to understand features a slow button which slows down the motions making it easier to grasp. I along with my three children use this app everyday. Works best when learning with others, or when using what you’ve learned to communicate daily.

### 5/5 — Great app to learn

*2025-01-24, version 3.6.3*

I’m a scuba instructor and intend to use more signs in teaching. This app is amazing. But if you could dedicate a category that covers phrases scuba divers frequently use (especially underwater), that would be phenomenal! I would love to give you a list to work on. Please be interested. :)

### 5/5 — Much love was put into the creating of this app

*2024-11-17, version 3.6.3*

### 5/5 — Smart choice for me

*2024-11-10, version 3.6.3*

The ASL application is an excellent tool for anyone interested in learning American Sign Language. With its combination of structured lessons, engaging video demonstrations, and community features, the app caters to a wide range of learners. While there may be a few limitations, especially regarding premium content, the overall experience is rewarding and informative, promoting both language learning and cultural understanding.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Tool for Learning ASL On the Go!

*2024-11-09, version 3.6.3*

I recently downloaded The ASL App, and it’s been such a helpful resource! The app makes learning conversational ASL accessible and fun. With a variety of categories like the ABCs, numbers, and everyday basics, I feel like I’m building a strong foundation in American Sign Language. The video demonstrations are clear, and the app is easy to navigate, making it perfect for beginners or those looking to brush up on their skills. I highly recommend this app to anyone interested in learning ASL!
