Why should you choose us? We know there are other ASL learning apps out there. However, we not only have all Deaf instructors, but are also Deaf owned! This isn’t about the numbers for us, it’s about creating a world that will better the lives of everyone through language, connection and understanding. We don’t just use ASL to teach, we live and breathe it!

All our courses are designed and taught by Deaf ASL instructors. We believe the best way to learn language is from those who are not only native to the language but use it every day and have studied the nuances extensively. Each one of our instructors are experts in their field, pouring their knowledge and passion into each course!

One unique aspect about our app is it not only teaches you the language, but also the culture! Language and culture are deeply connected. To really understand ASL, you need to understand Deaf culture. Because learning ASL is not just about the signs, but how to use them to connect with the Deaf community! By spreading awareness about our vibrant and rich culture, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate world.

Still not convinced? Here’s some of what you will find on our app!

-Free mini-lessons to kick-start your learning! Not sure where to start with learning ASL? That’s ok, we have content for you to “dip your toe” into ASL with the basic essentials!

-An ASL Dictionary with over 1,000 signs. When learning a new language, it’s easy to forget vocabulary or be curious about certain signs. Well, we’ve got you covered! Our dictionary is user friendly and constantly growing!

-Access to a network of students and The ASL Shop Crew! Learning is better when you can practice with others. We make sure you have the ability to connect with us and fellow learners. We won’t just abandon you as soon as you click “download.” We will be here to provide support and encouragement throughout your journey!

-Self-paced courses that are cohesive and easy to follow. We’ve organized our curriculum to be flexible, yet comprehensive. Each lesson builds off the others to help you achieve the goal of conversational fluency. Additionally, you can learn at your own speed from anywhere. We will save your progress! All you need to do is open the app and start from where you left off.

-Additional live group sessions to further enhance your learning. Maybe you like the classroom setting and need more structured learning. We understand! From our app, you can register for one of our group sessions. We offer both Zoom and in-person (located in Los Angeles) classes where you will learn and engage in activities with your peers.

We love what we do and want to foster a positive, stress-free and fun learning environment. Everything we do is for the benefit of our students!

But don’t take our word for it! Here is what our students have to say!

“Fosters a sense of community over everything else... surrounded by a teacher and other student who support me and want me to succeed.” -Christine

“My favorite part of class has been applying what we’ve learned through practice in conversations with other students.” -Jenni

"If you're interested in learning ASL and understanding more about Deaf culture, The ASL Shop is the place to go!” -Kimberly

### 5/5 — Building Meaningful Connections Through ASL

*2026-08-20*

As a Deaf person, I love this app! It is a great tool for schools and the community.

This app can help Deaf students feel more involved in public schools. Hearing kids can use it to learn sign language and have full access communication with their Deaf classmates.

It can also help hearing families who have a Deaf family member. They can learn sign language together and have more meaningful communication at home.

I also love that the app connects people with great teachers. Families can learn signs together and practice them at home.

I believe this app can help bring Deaf and hearing people closer together. It is a great way for everyone to learn, communicate, and build meaningful connections together.

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2026-08-20*

I’ve really been enjoying learning ASL with this app. The lessons are fun, easy to follow, and the teachers are Deaf. The dictionary is really useful and I like the options they give you for the lessons (self-paced, live, practice groups, etc.) There’s even a community feature that reminds me of tik tok. You can just scroll through or you can post and comment on other people, which is really awesome when you’re just learning and don’t really have people to practice with. Overall love this app and am excited to learn!

### 5/5 — Love this app!

The design is sooo pretty and everything is super easy to navigate. I especially love learning directly from Deaf instructors—their warm, positive energy makes learning ASL feel fun, welcoming, and authentic. Definitely recommend The ASL Shop! ✨

### 5/5 — Wonderful App!!

*2026-08-18*

The ASL Shop app is the very best out there right now in my opinion. It is very easy to maneuver around in the app and is very informative yet fun! My favorite part is the fingerspelling practice… I have improved greatly as I can practice as many times as I want. The dictionary is also a huge help. As a side note, I have taken many of their classes and everyone there is very helpful and keep the classes fun while staying professional. Great instructors and people. I highly recommend this app!

### 5/5 — The Best ASL App

*2026-08-18*

This is the best app out there for learning ASL. Deaf teachers, multiple learning pathways, suitable for beginners and seasoned signers, supportive and clear instruction, and access to an amazing community. This is your one-stop Shop for ASL.

### 5/5 — Wholesome approach to learning ASL

*2026-08-18*

This app is led by a deaf team with a deaf ASL professor. That means you know the content is designed to support your ASL learning journey, whether you’re taking self-paced or live classes (yes, they offer both!). Each time a new feature is added, it’s not a brand new addition, but instead it’s an update to support our needs with this app. This is great for anyone who really want to immerse themselves in ASL and deaf culture but may not be able to take in-person classes or don’t want just a dictionary or a gamified learning app.

### 5/5 — Not just another language app

*2026-08-18*

As an aspiring polyglot, I can say with great enthusiasm that this app is IT. Other language apps don’t do what The ASL Shop does - TEACH. I’ve tried every app under the sun and they all have the same formula - throw random vocab at you, click a few buttons, and progress. No real explanation or guided learning. They advertise self-paced language learning but they don’t actually teach the way people typically learn language. The ASL Shop does. You’ll actually LEARN the language instead of just memorize like the rest of the apps out there. Everyone who has successfully learned another language knows you need a proper foundation and UNDERSTANDING of the language, not just memorizing as much as you can and clumsily stringing it all together. This means someone has to actually explain the rules and structure of said language, and The ASL Shop team does an amazing job of it. Fun, accessible, and realistic, you’ll be signing along before you know it. The community feature keeps you in contact with others using the app and I think it’s amazing that you can practice and get feedback that way! Feels like a friendly and supportive social media and really boosts your learning. Love it !

### 5/5 — The BEST ASL app

*2026-08-18*

This is the only way I’ve been able to gain fluency with American Sign Language. And I LOVE that it’s Deaf created and Deaf run!
