### 4/5 — Great for waiting in line

*2019-06-04*

This is such a fun (and fair) app. It’s a free game that’s LIKE pay-to-play, only you don’t pay. Like every free game there’s “energy” you have to build up to play, but you can only get energy by answering trivia questions and confirming you have ridden a specific ride, which you can only do if you are in close proximity to the ride. This makes the gameplay fair to all users since people can’t pay their way to the top (unless you buy a fast pass in the park). The only downsides are that you have to be inside the park to play, and the game itself chews up cellphone battery due to a lot of augmented reality stuff. Still, this game is a lot of fun when waiting in line.

### 4/5 — Great

*2018-08-20*

This app is pretty cool but the only thing that needs fixed is the AR filter. Not sure if anyone else has this problem because I try to use the filter and it crashes. Really cool app though

### 4/5 — I can’t play Oof

*2018-08-10*

I want to play but I have to be in cedar point which I never go to. When I get a car I plan on going so that’s helpful.

### 4/5 — So Celtic!

*2018-05-15*

I love it! It takes my favorite amusement park and mixes it with Game of Thrones and EVEN THE LEGEND OF ZELDA!!! So worth it!

### 3/5 — Really boi

*2017-08-04*

Yo is dis Pokémon go ?? Gotta kill em all 🔪

### 4/5 — how do you change the gender of your avatar?

*2017-06-22*

i just got the app because i'm going to cedar point in a few days. i wanna set everything up on the app before i leave for cedar point. I don't know how to change the gender of my avatar. how do u do it?

### 4/5 — Completely Different App

*2017-06-19, version 2.0*

I originally reviewed the game in October 2016 and enjoyed it for what it was, despite some bugs. As of June 9, 2017, this app is a completely different game and deserves an updated review.

Summary:
Pros:
Camera bugs from previous version fixed
Exciting new mini-games
Battle in real-time with other players
New character designs
Customizable avatar
More options to earn points
Addicting gameplay
Tracks objectives over multiple visits

Cons:
Location settings required
Long loading times between games
Large file size requires connecting to Cedar Point's WiFi (which is free)
Confusing instructions (Tip: AR Videos won't register unless the user scans the Battle logo at the bottom left corner of the Battle for Cedar Point posters)

Review: Instead of passively earning points for your team by scanning ride signs and park maps, the new interface is much more involved. Users can create a custom avatar and purchase outfit upgrades using in-game currency that is awarded by completing objectives. Objectives include correctly answering trivia questions, playing minigames, and meeting requirements carried over from the previous version, such as riding a coaster featuring so many inversions, etc. The user also earns energy points by completing these objectives, which are needed to complete the main point of the game.

Instead of scanning ride signs as before, each of the coaster factions have poster displays near and in the ride queues. Upon entering the park, players are encouraged to use the free WiFi and download the AR game and AR video files. Scanning the aforementioned billboards unlocks the games and videos. But the most important game takes place on the battlefield itself. The new battlemap is separated into hexes, similar to the popular strategy game Civilization. Using the energy points earned by the objectives, players can defend their hexes while attacking and conquering those controlled by other teams. The map updates in real time, which can be especially exciting when two players are going head-to-head over the same hex. It is possible to completely dominate the map or even wipe out another team entirely. The day I played, poor Gatekeeper was reduced to a single hext! At the end of the day, players receive a notification to check the battlemap to reveal the winner. As before, teams reset the following day when the park opens.

Final notes: This game is worth getting, especially for coaster enthusiasts and season passholders. Despite long loading times the minigames are fun and the battlemap is exciting and competitive. Customizable avatar is a plus, as is the lack of purchases requiring real money - everything is earned in-game. Even the casual park visitor will find this app entertaining while waiting in queues or resting between rides. Holovis and Cedar Point, you knocked this one out of the park, pun completely intended!

### 2/5 — Awesome concept; poor reality

*2016-06-10*

Was super excited to get an email about this app! However, upon download, I realized 90% of the gameplay requires you to be AT Cedar Point. I'm only at the park a few days a year, so this is pretty useless. If the majority of the gameplay could take place outside of the park, then they'd be onto something! Great idea but poor execution.

### 5/5 — Fantastic AR app!

*2016-06-10*

A superbly fun way to use the latest augmented reality technology to bring a whole new layer of experience to the existing park. Well done Cedar Fair for being the first to adopt this and looking forward to seeing it roll out to all your parks...

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Remove from store

*2025-05-31*

Servers a done for lol.

### 1/5 — One star

*2018-08-06*

The only reason I put a won star is because if your not in the Park you can’t do anything and it’s really annoying with the really long download.

### 1/5 — Battle for Cedar Point @ Cedar Point

*2018-07-25*

I was so excited to get this app after seeing it advertised at Cedar Point, but I couldn’t get onto the WiFi so I waited till I got home, but most stuff you need to be in a clan to do, and you can only join at Cedar Point. My advice, don’t get the app unless you go to Cedar Point often, cause if not it’s not worth it.

### 1/5 — Super broke

*2017-09-02*

So this game is super broken. Don't bother liking your battery trying to capture territory for your guild. The map will reset and valraven just wins

### 1/5 — Not Worth Downloading

*2017-07-11, version 2.0*

Cheesy and cluttered. I can't wait for this battle app and its presence in the park to be gone for good.

### 1/5 — Stupid

*2016-07-31, version 1.2.1*

What they failed to mention is you still have to pay$5.00 for 1 pin at the store at cedar point.

### 1/5 — Idea = good, reality = bad.

*2016-06-12, version 1.1.3*

Wasn't really sure what it was at first but apon realization I decided to check it out. I was disappointed to find out that the game requires you to be actually IN the park, and the concept alone was not carried out well. I don't want to spend my time scanning signs for points...

### 1/5 — Interesting idea... But broken camera.

*2016-06-12*

I don't know why, but when I went to scan a sign or anything for that matter, the stencil for the scan would be right side up, but EVERYTHING ELSE would be upside down. Making it impossible to scan the coaster signs. Good job <.<

### 2/5 — You have to be in the park...

*2019-07-28*

So this app looks cool, and I’m sure it’s fun, but you have to be in the park to do anything in it. Developers, please redesign this app to make it playable anytime, anywhere.

### 2/5 — Interesting... Perhaps

*2018-05-15*

This app was utterly useless... maybe. It is fun to air drop your achievements to random people in line though. Not very clear on intended purpose.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Farty McGasser

*2018-06-02*

I haven’t played the game, but it looks cool. So 5 stars.

### 5/5 — Trash

*2017-07-21*

This park is great

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2017-06-10*

When I'm waiting in long lines at the park this game is the best thing to do to get rid of the boredom! So much things to do on this app and it really tests my knowledge of the park. Great app keep it up!

### 5/5 — It looks good but...

*2017-02-06, version 1.2.1*

I actually live in SC, so I can't play this, so please make a battle for Carowinds

### 5/5 — Great Fun, Great Experience

*2016-07-22*

I loved Battle for Cedar Point! I really added something to my last visit. I loved the story it came up with and the Valravn comic. The idea is really fun! I loved going to up the dollar coaster signs as I rode them and scanning them. I really hope they add to more it, as not all of the roller coasters can be scanned yet (like Wicked Twister, the wooden coasters) and it'd be great for more content and story line. It reminded me of Pokemon Go a bit. The effects were good. It was a blast playing. I even bought my team of the day's pin (Valravn). Next time I go back, I'm definitely playing again. Loved it!

### 5/5 — Like Pokemon Go in Cedar Point

*2016-07-17*

It's a fun way to bring Cedar Point to life when you're waiting in line or wandering the park. The augmented reality videos on the coaster signs and t-shirt are cool. Can't wait to go back!

### 5/5 — Good

*2016-07-09, version 1.2.1*

I like it

### 5/5 — Great for vacation! 🎢

*2016-06-29, version 1.2.1*

This app is a great idea for you going to Cedar Point! It's like making the park a big "Clash of Clans" game! Very Very good

### 5/5 — Awesome App!!!!

*2016-06-27*

I love participating in the battle. It adds a little more adventure to the park, having you go around and scan the signs and shirts for points to help your clan win. I love the special effects that show up on your screen when you scan things.
The app works perfectly and anyone who says otherwise obviously has problems with their own phones.

Other reviewers complained about the idea not being executed well simply because you have to be IN the park to participate. Well OF COURSE you have to be in the park. You can't scan things that are in the park when you're not there, people.

The only things I wish for are other sets of trivia questions that change each time you pick a clan. There are hundreds of trivia questions that could be asked and it would be nice to be able to do a new trivia game every time I go.

All in all the app is really cool and I hope this is around for many more years to come.

### 5/5 — Dumb people

*2016-06-11, version 1.1.3*

@Comander57. What part of this app don't you understand? It is so when you are IN the park, waiting in line you have something to help pass the time. This is NOT a game to be played at home. I'm sorry sir, but you have lost the Internet.
