### 4/5 — The Book of Negroes - thank you BET!

*2015-04-06, version 1.1*

I had an opportunity to finally view the miniseries and was completely enamored with the this story of survival and love. I want to thank BET for bringing this story to life. There are so many stories of Black people forced into slavery who fought back and survived. Unfortunately, these stories are not readily available nor taught I our schools

### 5/5 — In islam

### 5/5 — Great app

*2015-02-24, version 1.0*

A must have app on your iPad and iPhone... Nothing is better than picking up a book and reading but as a quick way to learn history ... This is a must have

### 5/5 — To comment 18

I see your frustration, but since you mentioned "white slaves" I assume that you know a little bit about american history?Well, I bet you also must be frustrated about the conditions that the enslaved africans were forced to endure, such as rape, kidnap, the selling of their children ,mutilation, horrible whippings,....shall I go on? Roots, Twelve Years a Slave, And The Book Of Negroes do not even begin to touch on how horrible slavery was.... The "white slaves" who were actually indentured servants in this period of time from 1492 to the year that slavery "ended". If you look, all through out history the europeans caused the most havoc and in no way am i saying that in no time the minorities hurt themselves. I am just saying that i believe that the previous generations of the present day generations of europeans ruined it for rest of the europeans. The white indentured servants never had to go through anything close to the pain that the enslaved felt.So the real question you should be asking is what about the rest of the enslaved minorities?btw the app was awsome!

### 5/5 — Wonderful app

*2015-02-22, version 1.0*

Great tool to use with children.

### 5/5 — Great but...

*2015-02-22, version 1.0*

Great app but, I dislike how it starts at the transatlantic slave trade. African history does not start there. I think a great extension of this app would be to delve into ancient Africa. Kemet, South Africa, Mansa Munsa etc. great app though, very informative.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2015-02-22, version 1.0*

There are no Negros in Africa

### 4/5 — Not imaginative

*2015-02-22, version 1.0*

It clearly states that this is a book about black people. So if you want to learn about other races that were slaves than go find a book related too that( trust me there everywhere). It is beyond me how people can't write reviews about things they already know the answer too. Some of you hateful people must stay on BET waiting to write negative reviews. Get your life. Don't get mad because you don't want to admit the truth. Also I did learn this at school in history books because I had a teacher who actually cared.

### 5/5 — Wow!!!

### 4/5 — Stuff

*2015-02-22, version 1.0*

There are other books that I have read when I was growing up that many people may not know about. They came before Columbus. Another good one is Before the Mayflower that also tell about black history that might have not been taught in school.

### 1/5 — Yahweh

I must say I saw a review of this app and one brother put it so beautifully it brought tears to my eyes. Some folks are truly not seekers of the most high and are simply trained and willing to continue a lie until it becomes truth.lots of blacks are not aware that a majority of us are Hebrews and the original Hebrews way before the Arab conquest and our history doesn’t begin in the 16 th century when Europeans started recording their so called time.Time will tell and logic will tell you simply can’t continue going against the natural order and expect good to come back forever.Judgement cometh.Chickens are Coming home

### 1/5 — Absolutely Trash

*2018-11-26, version 1.1*

We all know this was not written by a black person.

### 1/5 — Whitewashed version of events

*2015-02-26, version 1.0*

Nice app. Nice movie. But like most things of this nature, it totally glosses over and whitewashes things that happened in the slave trade and cuts straight to the things we already know.

The movie and the app is pretty much preaching to the choir. If you're carrying a grudge or have a chip on your shoulder, this app is for you. If you're looking to learn the history behind this atrocity, look elsewhere.

### 1/5 — GreatPromo advert but LackingContent...

*2015-02-26, version 1.0*

This is a well done promo for the novel and miniseries; kudos to the slick production team. However, the app chews up nearly half of a GB in data memory and offers very little of substance (for anyone either above primary school or beyond a level of bigoted willful ignorance) but of course it's free and you get what you pay for. I think reviewer "Mke9634" said it best in his Feb 23, 2015 review: "5th grade level propaganda..." And that's sad - this could have been so much more than it was.

### 1/5 — Not diversified

*2015-02-25, version 1.0*

Black history is racist, ignoring others.

### 1/5 — 5th grade level propaganda in 10 minutes; not a complete history

*2015-02-24, version 1.0*

This hits on all of the major bullet points of the Atlantic Slave trade and the history of Blacks in America and Canada. Slavery to Civil War to Harlem Renaissance to Blacks in sports to Civil Rights Act to Obama. That's it. I didn't skip anything. The rest is promotional info for the actual book. No info on slaves traded to asia and in africa, nor info on who captured the slaves (here's a hint: cure for malaria wasn't invented yet.) Nothing on the significant efforts of William Wilberforce to end slavery:
'A system of slavery that has existed for millennia is ended by a passage of a law, a law that was voted down 11 times in 15 years when it finally passed 204-5.'
Think that could be expanded on, why a law suddenly becomes nearly universally approved? No mention of the massive effort of the British Navy to end the slave trade and the thousands of lives lost at sea to save Black lives?
There is a few mentions that both Washington and Jefferson owned slaves. No mention that the slaves were freed and provided for in both men's wills, nor the personal letters of both men anguishing over the moral issue of slave holding against the reality that these people where unable to function in society as they were uneducated and the social conditions would make it very difficult to succeed. And the general assumption is that slavery is all whipping and beating and raping of the blacks, when in fact many slaves once freed took the name of their slave holders and many whites provided for black families assistance.
In short, this is more a list of grievances meant to divide people than educate. The real story of Blacks is something we should be as a nation should be in the end proud of: under the lead of Britain, a millennia long system that degraded humans was ended not only in our countries but then we forced the rest of the world to by and large do the same. Black people have a better shot in this country and the West than anywhere else in the world. They deserve the truth.
