### 2/5 — Terrible app support

*2026-06-11*

I have an issue every day with articles not loading. It seems to be 2 or 3 or 4 random stories, they flash on the screen, then it goes to a loading spinner in the middle of the screen. I initially contacted them on 5-26, and have sent 25 emails about the problem. And most of those are replies to their repeated asks about the problem, including probably 10 that ask “what is the specific error message?” I have lost all patience with them, I am sick of asking why they don’t READ THE THREAD. And the replies that say what device, I’ll send you instructions to clear your cache, or reset your router, or make sure you sign in. Cause apparently only random stories will be affected by those issues.

### 4/5 — Notification/Alert System

*2025-08-04*

I do like the app. It has some very nice features: being able to read the print version, the games and comics section, and it’s easy to navigate.

I’m not really a sports fan. It seems 8/10 stories I receive are about the Bills, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to turn that off and just get breaking local and national news.

Overall, though, it’s a decent app.

**Developer response:** We appreciate the positive review! Thank you for taking the time to let us know you’re enjoying the app.

### 2/5 — Frustrating

*2025-01-22, version 9.14.1*

When using an iPad you can only read it if the iPad is horizontal. If you raise the top of the iPad to make it vertical, the page immediately resets and goes to the top. It’s getting worse and is very frustrating

### 2/5 — Making article larger

*2025-01-12, version 9.14.1*

I can’t expand the page large enough to read it. It keeps snapping back to original size. The app won’t let me go to bottom of page to read it. Tapping on article to different format is only way to read it.

### 3/5 — Buffalo News

*2024-11-24, version 9.13.5*

I am very disappointed that you no longer include DearAbby or Miss Manners columns in the paper. The comic section is terrible as it includes nothing current. We enjoyed Pickles and The Far Side, but they are no longer published. To add insult to injury you raised the price of the paper.

### 4/5 — Flow

*2024-11-01, version 9.13.3*

Although I only recently subscribed to the Buffalo news, I have in the past read the Washington Post. The letter newspaper allows one to flow from one article to the next within a section of the newspaper.
However, I like that the Buffalo news has a human
Voice. The post seems to use an AI voice in contrast.

### 2/5 — Heavily left-sided newspaper

*2024-09-22*

Unfortunately, trying to be as truthful as I can be, this is a heavily left, leaning newspaper, relying on left, leaning writers from other news agencies

Gone or the days when you used to get a middle of the road, Newspaper that showed both sides of the equation

Now the only thing I read it for is for its sports in crossword puzzles

Local news has allowed to be desired since the paper moved it operations to Cleveland, Ohio

If you call and complain about not being able to read comments about stories or include your own comments, You were told to allow third-party apps, etc. when you call back and say that it doesn’t work, your assured that they are working on it and that the issue will be resolved within a couple days, that was two months ago

I am 72 years old and hold a journalism degree, have worked for a newspaper in my younger days, I am not calling myself a journalist, however, I do remember one of the rules of journalism, be fair, and honest, and show both sides of the argument… so the people can decide

It’s a shame the Buffalo News hasn’t picked up and the standards of the old Buffalo Courier express, Instead, their filing the woke journalism of the Gray lady, WAPO etc

To heavily opinionated and one-sided!

### 4/5 — Great Sports/NFL Coverage, News weak on Political balanced view

*2024-08-05*

We know we are in New York State led by the Democrats but the news needs to realize there are a lot of Republicans, Independents, & Conservatives out here-don’t forget we are here and we want to read and have our perspective represented. Women can be pro-family,pro-life & feminist. I appreciate the News because we do need people to see what’s happening in their communities-keep on keeping on. : )

**Developer response:** We appreciate the positive review! Thank you for taking the time to let us know you’re enjoying the app.

### 3/5 — Content

*2024-07-28, version 9.13*

I enjoy the content and the writing of the local writers. The problem I have is that in this day of the internet, why the sports reports and stories don’t show up until two days later instead of the next day is beyond me. I know the print edition is done out of town but the e-edition should be available to those of us that subscribe to e-edition only. Thanks

### 2/5 — App doesn’t work

*2024-07-21, version 9.12.3*

Bad

### 4/5 — Minor complaint

*2024-07-01*

Two things that bug me: The pop ups suggesting stories to read . If I’m interested I read it when I get to it. Sometimes it suggests a story I’ve already read. Second : the embedded adds in the body of the story. I find while scrolling through the story it’s easy to open adds disrupting reading the story.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. I will pass your concerns on to our development team.

### 2/5 — E Edition Problems

*2024-06-19, version 9.12.3*

I have had a subscription to the News for many years. I changed to the E Edition a few years ago. While I enjoy receiving the News in format of the actual newspaper, I note regularly that many pages of the e edition fail to load. This is a major issue as much of the paper is then unreadable to me.
Please work on this so that I am able to read and receive ALL of the News each day.
Thanks

### 4/5 — Mixed Fealungs

*2024-06-18*

Good for immediate news. I like the ability to play every article as audio should you choose. The price is listening to a single commercial but otherwise you receive the entire article. The computer voice sounds real but mispronounces some words…seems it should be schooled for common things like reading the call letters of local TV stations as letters and not turning them into words…wivb is not a word nor pronounced wiv b. Can you say
W I V B instead? And some stories sit on the front pages for multiple days. And betting ads look just like sports stories and some articles repeat side by side…why twice on the same line?

But you do get the full articles of what the app presents (not a summary) and that’s why I use the app daily.

### 4/5 — More local events

*2024-06-09*

The app is very useful, but it would be great if it featured even more local events so the Buffalo News remains a hub of local activity. This is something an app can enable perhaps a bit more easily than the print version. Even a few sentences to create public record of the smaller things that are happening will be a vtital record some day. Thank you.

**Developer response:** We appreciate the positive review! Thank you for taking the time to let us know you’re enjoying the app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App is Terrible

*2026-04-12, version 9.19.3*

Don’t know why but when I am thumbing through the e-edition, you cannot go back a page. App sends you back to front page.

### 1/5 — Worst app ever.

*2025-11-16, version 9.18*

This app has always been a problem and still is. It’s reason enough for me to cancel my subscription.

### 1/5 — Terrible user experience

*2025-08-09, version 9.18*

This is easily one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. The user experience is bad in many way but two things drive me nuts. First, headlines will show up in Twitter but clicking on that link doesn’t give you the option to open the mobile app, like WaPo or The Atlantic. Second, if I open the app once I see a breaking headline on Twitter, I usually can’t find the article. Shouldn’t be that hard to provide a better experience.

### 1/5 — It is so sad that after 45 years as a Buffalo News subscriber, I can no longer easily read the news

*2024-10-10*

I recently canceled my paper edition due to constant constant delivery issues since it’s now being printed out of state. The app is just horrible…. this morning in trying to read the paper. It has crashed no less than a dozen times. I’m still not through the second section. Why do updates not correct all these obvious bugs with the program constant crashing, and closing of the program over and over and over. My disabled husband has given up his beloved sports page out of absolute frustration over the constant crashing. PLEASE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND FIX THIS. HOW CAN YOU IN GOOD CONSCIENCE CHARGE MONEY FOR THIS?

**Developer response:** I’m sorry that you are having trouble with our app. Please email me at csc-digital-escalations@lee.net with the details of the issue and I will look into it. We want to make sure you have the best experience possible and can quickly get back to reading local news.

### 1/5 — Biased news reporting

*2024-09-20, version 9.13.2*

Great paper if you’re a liberal. If you’re looking for fair and honest reporting don’t look here.

### 1/5 — BN iPad App is Bad, Very Bad

*2024-09-01, version 9.13.2*

The new version doesn’t update and therefore I cannot read the articles on my iPad. Forget trying to get a hold of Customer Service because they don’t answer.

### 1/5 — Subscribed, but unable to access content

*2024-08-08, version 9.13*

Paid money, they took our money, and then we were unable to access content. Took hours to resolve. Zero out of ten, would not subscribe again.

### 1/5 — Unstable

*2024-06-11, version 9.12.3*

The app on a IPad is ver unstable!! I’m considering not renewing my subscription!

### 1/5 — Terrible App!

*2024-05-24, version 9.12.3*

I don’t know what happened - but I keep getting “Subscribe now to read” despite having already entered my username and password. Totally frustrating! I am going to cancel my subscription since I can no longer access the Buffalo News.

### 1/5 — Still not working…

*2024-05-18, version 9.12.3*

Your “developer response” means nothing! Look at the history of your app’s review comments… It’s sad for society that news agencies like yours are not reliably available for this generation. Take a look at AP app. Their app might be an interface you could strive for. Sad day for local news.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — UB

*2026-03-01, version 9.19.3*

### 5/5 — App works well; great to get local news

### 5/5 — Refresh daily

*2025-01-19, version 9.14.1*

Every day I catch up on the news from my home town while wintering on Hilton Head Island

### 5/5 — The Buffalo News is Important for our Region

*2024-09-29*

Everyone in WNY should read the BN to understand our community and get trusted reporting from local journalists as well as articles of importance from syndications. Local news is the only way we can have empower us to make change where it is needed.

**Developer response:** We appreciate the positive review! Thank you for taking the time to let us know you’re enjoying the app.

### 5/5 — Great coverage

*2024-08-16, version 9.13*

The Buffalo News is a fantastic resource for everything Buffalo. For someone who lives outside the city it provides insight into happenings around Buffalo and the sports coverage is amazing. Particularly for bills fans the sports writers at the News are some of the best in the business.

### 5/5 — What a city!

*2024-07-30, version 9.13*

The Buffalo News keeps me informed on all the ways Buffalo is an amazing city from art galleries to sports.

### 5/5 — Better than the rest

*2024-07-12*

No, I have not used a big number of similar apps, but this app is superior to others I’ve used over the years. Please, in future do not break this app with fanciful updates that don’t truly improve something. It’s very easy to navigate and functional as is.

**Developer response:** We appreciate the positive review! Thank you for taking the time to let us know you’re enjoying the app.

### 5/5 — Elvis

*2024-07-11, version 9.12.3*

Great job

### 5/5 — News fan

*2024-06-05*

I live out of the Buffalo market these day, but I can not let go of Buffalo, Erie, and Niagara county. I read the New York Times, a Ukrainian E paper, and the Buffalo News. I stay in touch with Western New York, and importantly the Buffalo Bills. I think it is one of the country’s best papers. The e-Paper is convenient, cheap and easy to operate. Thanks Buffalo News.

**Developer response:** We appreciate the positive review! Thank you for taking the time to let us know you’re enjoying the app.

### 5/5 — Best Access to Up-to-date News

*2024-06-05, version 9.12.3*

I rely on the app for recent Buffalo news.
