## What is The Critic?

The Critic is Britain’s new monthly magazine for politics, ideas, art, literature and much more.

Co-edited by Michael Mosbacher and Christopher Montgomery, The Critic exists to push back against a self-regarding and dangerous consensus that finds critical voices troubling, triggering, insensitive and disrespectful. The point is not provocation or trolling. The point of honest criticism is to better approach truth, not deny its possibility.

As we explain in our launch editorial, ossified thought and a lack of intellectual rigour are depressing features of all sides of today’s political and cultural debate. Our writers will subscribe to no editorial line nor serve the interests of any party, faction or cause. We ask them to write because we expect them to be honest, and lucidly so. Look to our contributors and fault us if they are not.

### 2/5 — Very hard to read on a phone

*2025-02-25*

Great content but next to impossible to read even on a large phone.

### 1/5 — Great magazine, horrible electronic access

*2025-01-28*

Great magazine, nil response to enquiry about electronic access. Difficult system, muddled by Pocketmags! Why would anyone want to use the online version?

### 1/5 — Good magazine poor app

*2024-03-13*

I’ve recently subscribed to this magazine. It has a good mix of articles, which I enjoy. However, I’m finding the app a nightmare to use on my iPad, it seems to have a mind of its own. When scrolling it jumps pages, cuts the bottom off pages and jumps between pages when I try to zoom in.
A simple pdf would be so much easier.
I won’t be renewing my subscription if it’s this irritating to use the app, it’s spoiling my reading.

### 1/5 — Rejects my digital subscription

*2024-03-01*

I have a digital subscription to The Critic. This app supposedly has an option for digital subscribers to log in, but insists on a Pocketmags account when you try to use it.

### 1/5 — You pay and you can’t access

*2022-12-14*

Awful, 20th C interface. And when you pay for it you then have to go through rubbish to access it. What a shame

### 5/5 — Something to make me cross in every issue..

*2021-06-15*

...just as promised. I don’t agree with every writer, but I defend to the last their right to say it.

### 1/5 — Great journal - problems with app & website

*2020-08-26*

I bought a 6 month subscription on the back of a few excellent articles, and was delighted to see an app.

They took my money without problem, and promised me print editions and “instant” web access.

To log into the app I need an “account number.” They haven’t given me one.

I tried to log in to the website using the email & password provided, and all it does is get stuck in a refresh loop.

Not a good start.
