The recipes are authentic, easy to follow and absolutely delicious. The one time access fee is great value once you realise the quantity of recipes and how unique they are. So why only 2 stars? Because the app takes at least 10 minutes to download its content every single time it is opened. I have an iPhone 17 with updated software, I’ve deleted and re-downloaded the app, it makes no difference. While it’s downloading you have to keep the app open and the screen unlocked, or it starts again. It’s INFURIATING. This means I’m super reluctant to plan recipes from the app because the thought of waiting for it to open is so irritating and really unfortunate. So - 5 stars for app content, but 0 stars for app performance. ### 3/5 — Love / Hate relationship with this app *2026-03-07* This is the best curry recipe app BY FAR. Every time I open the app it spends 40 minutes downloading images. It doesn’t cache them (as far as I can tell), it doesn’t continue in the background so I have to keep the app open and my screen unlocked, and it doesn’t start from the same place if there is a network error- it starts again. Immediately uninstalling and will try and get a refund on the subscription. ### 3/5 — Doesn’t cache photos *2025-09-23, version 3.6* I understand the photos are helpful, and the recipes are great. But Stuart, PLEASE implement a local cache for this app so that it doesn’t have to download the entire gallery every time I open the app. It’s not just the initial open, it downloads images EVERY time I open the app, and has done for the last year or so. It really takes stars away from an otherwise amazing tool ### 3/5 — Good recipes slow app *2025-08-17* The recipes are good but be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes to load recipes, images etc every time you open it unless it’s only been a few days. **Developer response:** Hi and thank you for the review! Recipe updates are released every couple of months, so only a handful of downloads per year to get those extra recipes. We've also recently updated the app which should see much faster downloads when recipe updates are released. There are some errors and confusion, e.g. beef rendang overview mentions , kerisik, as rice powder but seems to be coconut powder further on. It’s useful and the recipes are good but for the price I was expecting something more. ### 2/5 — Looks promising but very slow *2025-05-29* The app looks promising with a multitude of interesting and useful recipes however is sooooooo slow that it makes it unusable. Then when I purchased the access - then it took me about 8 attempts to load the app! I have it now and it is great! Can’t wait until I start using it! ### 2/5 — Not very good *2024-10-31* I love The Curry Guy website and I own several of his books. However I was really disappointed by the app. Hard to read and no landscape support on iPad which makes it even harder to use. I also don’t like the pricing structure for all the recipes, I’d rather go elsewhere and get them for free or make my own. **Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're not a fan. Disappointing considering I can find some from the curry guy on google for free **Developer response:** Thanks for looking! The app is designed to be a convenient and highly optimised way of accessing recipes on mobile / tablet devices. Step-by-step instructions with photos, search and favourite functionality, along with regular updates and new recipes by The Curry Guy himself - it’s an encyclopaedia of curry in your pocket. All this takes lots and lots of work, so while there are about 30 free recipes so you can try out the app, the rest do need to be paid for to make it all possible. ### 1/5 — You have to buy the recipes *2024-07-23* Gave it one star because you have to pay to get the recipes which is annoying as I already paid for the book **Developer response:** Sorry to disappoint but the app is a separate product with a huge and ever-growing library of different recipes, it takes a lot of time to maintain. Please try re-installing which should resolve the problem. ### 1/5 — CONSTANTLY DOWN LOADING IMAGES *2025-01-26* Well, all I can say is i persevered with this app but sadly enough is enough. From the get go the app takes for ever to “download images” to the scale of 5-10mins! It is not my download speed; i am sporting 500GB download speeds and no other app takes this long. Its not the phone or iOS; i have tried on iPhone 12 Pro, 14 Pro and now a 16 Pro Max, all with up to date iOSs installed. If i do wait the 5-10mins then i am faced with have i got a subscription….on answering yes i am then faced with…..you guessed it…..more “downloading images”. This time they take from 15-mins up to…..i cannot be bothered to continue to download its taking so long. Sadly after what seems like several years i just can’t be bothered with this app. The only positive side was their customer support was quick to respond but sadly they were unable to rectify this app for me. So that’s it; i place this app in the B-One-N! **Developer response:** The app has over 300 recipes, each with multiple step-by-step photos, so there are lots of images to download. We have recently upgraded our systems to improve performance for those like yourself who are based overseas. Sorry it doesn't seem to have worked in your case, although we have received more positive news from other overseas users who previously had issues. We continue to monitor and improve performance wherever possible. ### 1/5 — Very difficult to find a Recipe on this app! *2024-12-17* I followed the link from Facebook for cheese stuffed meatballs, tried to print the recipe but it wouldn’t work, so downloaded the app and was looking forward to using, I’ve searched 3 recipes so far and apart from loads of info about the food, I’ve failed to actually find a single recipe. I am on my home network which is 1 GB fiber.
