## What is The Darkside Detective?

Grab your trench coat, tune your sixth sense and join the Darkside Division as they investigate the outright bizarre, the downright dangerous and the confusing cases of Twin Lakes. Flesh-hungry tentacles, mafian zombies, and the occasional missing sock are no match for The Darkside Detective.

"Where cultists crawl, where demons dwell, where the occult… occults? *ahem* That's where you’ll find Detective Francis McQueen, the lead investigator of the criminally underfunded Darkside Division. When evil darkens the doorsteps of Twin Lakes City – hell, even when it just loiters around shop fronts or hangs out in shady alleyways – he’s there, ready to investigate the cases that nobody else will.

He is The Darkside Detective.

### 5/5 — Great game!

*2026-07-22*

So much fun, intuitive puzzles, funny dialogue, charming old school point and click. Will definitely get part 2.

### 3/5 — Bug

*2026-04-15*

Some cases are always classified

### 5/5 — Fun PnC Adventure!

*2026-03-18*

Really had fun with this -- made me think of Space Quest with all of the silly references and what not. Most of the puzzles were accessible and not require over the top leaps of logic, except I did have to find a few hints on the last act! Worth the price, and now Im about ready to dive into the second one!

### 2/5 — Lost progress (repeatedly)

*2026-01-24*

I love the gameplay and content but keep losing progress. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to play the later chapters.

### 5/5 — Genial…

*2026-01-19*

Wer Maniac Mansion mochte, wird dieses Spiel lieben. Toller Humor! Und entgegen der Beschreibung auch komplett auf Deutsch!

### 3/5 — Constant crash

*2025-12-28*

I like the game but I made it partway through case 3 and now it just crashes out at the loading screen. Too bad.

### 5/5 — Great game

*2025-12-18*

So fun! Highly recommend getting version 2 now.

### 5/5 — Incroyable

*2025-12-17*

Vraiment j’ai adoré le concept, je recommande

### 5/5 — 10/10 - get the bundle!

*2025-12-14*

I don’t usually write reviews but Darkside detective (1&2) really impressed me! I bought the bundle so I got both the original game and sequel.

Firstly, the sequel (Darkside detective 2) was a much longer gameplay and had much more detailed cases. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the original Darkside detective; I did. However, the original was finished much faster because the cases are much shorter. For example, I finished the first game in about 1 day whereas the sequel took me 3ish days.

My only issue to note was that the puzzles in both games are extremely easy. This is coming from someone who doesn’t hesitate to look up a walkthrough if needed - I did not have to ever look up any hints or help because it is that easy. I think I only got stuck one or two times, but the way the game is designed, all you have to do is go back through everything and check anywhere you can (which the game shows you every tapable item, if needed). All the puzzles are very straightforward and simple. There was only one “puzzle” that was straight up random and the devs even note that it was essentially random and shouldn’t have worked in the dialogue. I believe this was in the second game.

The dialogue was great and ranged from being very brief to very long winded. I enjoyed that a lot, and didn’t feel like the dialogue ever overpowered the puzzles or gameplay like some games can have. I enjoyed the visuals and thought the game ran extremely smoothly without any crashing or pauses. A few times, I was shocked at the plot twists or simply what came next because it got really out of pocket sometimes (in a good way, mind you!).

I do suggest saving your place if you ever need to click off the game even if only for a few minutes, because it didn’t always save my exact place. However, you’ll never be taken back to the beginning if you don’t manually save.

Overall, I suggest buying the bundle if you want to play this game - you seriously won’t regret it if you like point and click games that aren’t extremely challenging. You will most likely enjoy the second game more as the cases are much longer and more detailed. However, a lot of back story also comes from the first game and the sequel is a direct continuation of the first.

I really enjoyed the “bonus” cases as well and was shocked with how long they were considering they are only labeled as bonuses.

SPOILER - check the settings ;). I thought that was such a fun and clever little addition to add. Along with the credit sequences.

### 5/5 — Love this so hard

*2025-10-15*

I’ve played a lot of point and click and this was one of the most enjoyable games in a long time. Was genuinely sad when the cases were complete! Great original storyline, quirky characters, throwback pixelated design, just hard enough gameplay and even the witty/funny/cheesy jokes! Kind of dark but wholesome at the same time? Great value for money with much longer gameplay time than I expected. Highly recommend. Awesome job team can’t wait for the 3rd instalment.
