## What is The Eclipse App?

On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will cross Greenland, Iceland, and Spain, and for a few quiet minutes the sky will go dark. The Eclipse App is your companion for the whole day: an interactive map of the path of totality, a rehearsal so you know what's coming, and a live countdown that guides you second by second, from first contact to the moment your eclipse glasses come off.

▶ YOUR ECLIPSE

See exactly what the eclipse looks like from your location: whether you'll see totality, how long it lasts, how much of the Sun is covered, and when every phase begins and ends, down to the second. Outside the path? You'll see your partial eclipse times too. Preview your sky in advance, and turn on Day-of Alerts so nothing sneaks up on you.

▶ THE MAP

Explore the path of totality from Greenland across Iceland to Spain. Tap any spot on the eclipse map to see its timing, how long totality lasts there, and how far it sits from the path. Comparing two towns? The map makes the tradeoffs easy to see.

▶ SUN POSITION

In 2026, the eclipse hangs low in the sky in many places. See exactly how high the Sun will sit from your spot, and get a heads-up when hills, buildings, or trees might block the view. You can check historical cloud trends while you're at it.

▶ REHEARSAL

Practice eclipse day before it arrives, at your own pace. Walk through every phase from first contact to last, learn when glasses go on and come off, and try the camera and recorder ahead of time, so the real day feels familiar instead of frantic.

▶ LIVE COUNTDOWN

When the day comes, the eclipse countdown guides you in real time: what's happening, what to watch for, and exactly when it's safe to take your glasses off. An optional spoken audio guide keeps you hands-free. The totality countdown also lives on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, so a glance is all it takes.

▶ SNAP AND RECORD

Take a photo without leaving the countdown. Scene mode captures the strange light around you, and Sun mode helps you aim and expose for the Sun itself. Or tap Record, put your phone down, and capture the sound of totality: the hush, the gasps, the cheers.

▶ RELIVE

Afterward, press play. Your photos and recordings play back on the eclipse's own timeline, just as they happened. It's the closest thing to standing back under the Moon's shadow.

▶ GOOD TO KNOW

- Completely free. No account, no subscriptions.
- Available in nine languages: English, Spanish, Catalan, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Icelandic, and Japanese.
- Useful anywhere in Europe and beyond: even far from totality, you can see how much of the Sun will be covered where you are.

A note on safety: outside of totality, only look at the Sun through certified eclipse glasses or solar filters. The app tells you when, and proper glasses do the protecting.

A total solar eclipse is brief, and it doesn't wait. We built this app so you can spend those minutes looking up.

### 5/5 — Absolument géniale !

*2026-08-11*

### 5/5 — excellent

*2026-08-08*

A very lovely app, love the simulations

### 1/5 — Pro version scam

*2024-04-23*

$4.00 for a timer? What a scam!
And why am paying again? I just saw another charge on my card can’t even opt out.

### 5/5 — Amazing App!

*2024-04-21*

I'm so glad I discovered this app. I was planning to find places where to enjoy and view the solar eclipse of 2024. The information on weather, totality duration, and events near each location was accurate. Great job for the developers of this app. This app was really helpful in my journey to find the best place to enjoy the eclipse, and I was satisfied with all the features and information. I hope the App works for the Solar Eclipse in 2026 in Iceland and Spain!!!
Thanks!!!!
I.

### 1/5 — Pro features didn’t work

*2024-04-19, version 1.4.4*

Don’t bother with Pro version—it didn’t work

### 5/5 — Worked great! Very Helpful

*2024-04-15*

I wanted to thank you for creating such a useful app. We went to o an area unfamiliar yo us and having suggestions for parks and locations of events was so helpful. The fee for weather was well worth it. We found a lovely park we wouldn’t have known about and had a wonderful experience.

### 2/5 — Location of totality useful - clouds just plain wrong

*2024-04-13*

The free version was just fine. However, I paid the $3 for the ‘live cloud forecast.’ It was not correct AND gave two different answers. My app said 15% clouds, my husband’s free app for same location said 80% clouds. So which was it? So ironically the extra $3 was a HUGE ripoff. If I had planned my location based on what I paid for, I would have missed the eclipse. Thanks a lot for nothing.

### 1/5 — Annoyed

*2024-04-12*

I was only 70 miles from a total totality location so I went ahead and paid for the “pro version” guided countdown. I wish it had said before paying that you had to be WITHIN a totality area to have the paid version be worth it’s money. I got literally nothing from the pro version. Lucky it’s only 3$ but I feel like there should have been some more information. I would have been happy if I had even gotten a guided countdown for the closest totality area to me. I was looking forward to seeing all the features shown in the example and saw none at all instead. It was a waste of 3$ for where I was located. Would have been worth every penny if I had been in a different area.
