## What is The Experiment?

The history of the United States taught in most schools follows a reliable arc: the battles won, the documents signed, the speeches given. It's not wrong. But the highlight reel skips the parts that are harder to explain - the thousands of people who died on prison ships nobody remembers, the mass smallpox inoculation Washington ran in secret while his army was vulnerable, the spy who helped win the Revolutionary War and then spent six years fighting for his own freedom afterward.

This app is interested in that texture.

150+ timeline entries across 12 chapters of American history, from the birth of the republic to 1976. History requires distance - not because recent events don't matter, but because without it, context collapses into argument. The facts, left unedited, are strange and hard and worth knowing.

This update was inspired by a news article I read: earlier this month (June 2026), archaeologists in Massachusetts excavated a defensive ditch from the Battle of Bunker Hill, recovering musket balls and gun flints from both sides, just over 250 years after the battle. I updated the Bunker Hill entry to reflect this, and used the occasion to take a closer look at the rest of the timeline.

What else is new:

29 entries across the timeline have been expanded with new facts, context, and connections to other events, from the lead-up to the Revolution through Watergate.

Settings has been reorganized.

General formatting and readability improvements throughout.
