### 3/5 — Bug on the rocks to move

*2024-12-04*

Whatever I tried-there is no way getting further than to that magic board which is not taking the “move the rock-action” … so I’m stuck and paid for nothing really

### 3/5 — Frustrating bug

*2024-09-29*

I seem to have encountered a bug. There are puzzles that are obscured until you find a way to reveal them, but my game seems to have this bright white bloom covering everything so even though I have met the conditions to be able to see these puzzles, I can’t see what I’m doing. Some of them I was able to brute force, but the last one doesn’t even seem to function properly. Very disappointing, I was enjoying this game. Such cool art and concept.

### 5/5 — PLAY THIS Haunting, Beautiful, Creative Game!

*2019-10-18*

I was disappointed to read some lackluster reviews of this game—but thankfully they didn’t dissuade me. I’m so glad that I purchased and played this game, as it’s a point-and-click adventure in its own genre. The puzzles are creative and just challenging enough (thank goodness for the in-game hints), the music is haunting, and the artwork is exquisite. Best of all, the world is truly immersive, with the perfect synthesis of storyline, artwork, puzzles, and atmosphere. I’ve played A LOT of games, and the list of 5-star winners is limited to The Room series and the Rusty Lake series. Thanks to The Frostrune, I’ve added one more game to that list?!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2019-06-09, version 1.2*

Wish there was more!! Loved it

### 4/5 — Thoughtfully put together

*2019-05-20*

Nice puzzles and flow. Not sure if it’s $5 nice, but nice nevertheless. It would be awesome if there was a soundtrack option, or mini-game just to play around with the vocal melodies and combinations therein. I often Play the game just up to the singing part and start again to hear it. Hearing the men belt out the operatic folk tune gives me chills. Multi language option is awesome too. (Music option = 5 stars from me)

### 5/5 — Disregard 1 Star

*2019-05-15, version 1.2*

Figured out the sound issue. Great art and story! Like old Myst. Only cost a cup of coffee!

### 3/5 — Sooooo not worth $5

*2019-05-02, version 1.2*

I enjoyed the game, but it took me about 2 hours to complete the whole thing. I was really hoping it would last longer. The graphics are cool and the music/sound effects are awesome, but there should be more of all of it for the price.

### 4/5 — Tatsächlich sehr spannend, aber ausbaufähig

*2019-04-26*

### 5/5 — So worth the $!

*2019-04-13, version 1.2*

Beautiful ‘spirit world’ art and graphics, intriguing story line. Enough of a challenge to make you think, but not frustrated. The Norse mythology is faithfully and wonderfully presented. Just a beautiful game. I loved it.

### 4/5 — wonderful example of the genre, a couple caveats

*2019-03-21*

I liked this game a lot, particularly some aspects of it and would probably give it 4.5 stars if possible. The story is fresh and interesting, the art is generally wonderful, the music and spoken Norse (especially the Norse) and the interesting use of spirit vision mode all really add to the atmosphere and "credibility." I didn't really need the hints but, having read about it in a couple of reviews, I decided to check it out and I agree it is a good system. If you're stuck on something, or don't want to take the time to search all over for something you might have missed, you can get a quick hint to set you on the right path without actually, usually telling you exactly what to do and without giving away too much.

Because I liked the game so much I thought I should lay out the couple of things that made me drop my rating from 5 to 4 stars were 1) the game is too short. The good aspects of the game almost outweigh the lack of length but not quite. 2) There weren't enough puzzles and they were generally simple (though kudos to the devs for requiring spirit vision to work out some of the puzzles and I really liked the rune stone system). The couple of puzzles that weren't very straightforward were almost too obtuse IMO. The example I can think of it is the final one (spoiler alert) with Naudigastir's tunic. I don't know if I would have figured out this one if I hadn't already seen the patterns on the wall in the witch's house. Figuring how to put the pattern on the loom was trial and error and not immediately obvious. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here but that's how it sruck me. 3) The price of the game is another small issue. The stmospherics and art almost outweigh the high cost for a game that's so short but, again, not quite. So, all things combined, I dropped from 5 to 4 stars. As stated above, would give 4.5 if could.

I can heartily recommend this game, though, especially if you can get it at a discount, and would love if the devs came out with another (especially if it was longer; or added chapters to this one)! This was one of the most enjoyable point-and-click adventures I've played because of the story and atmospherics, etc; not just a redux of all the others you see.

### 4/5 — Short but great!

*2019-02-17, version 1.2*

Its an awesome game, good story and smooth gameplay. But i wish it would be longer for the price tag it has, hope more chapters or parts get added, keep it up guys!

### 5/5 — WOW - Impressive

*2019-02-10, version 1.2*

Other than the price, I loved it. Great storyline long gameplay unique puzzles and I am sad there is not another to play like this. However, I think $5 is a little pricey.

### 1/5 — Can’t see the runes in spirit vision mode, hint scroll bar is glitchy

*2024-09-25*

Idk if it’s just me but when you get to the bit where you have to change the figures on the ice rune tablet to match the ones on the tapestry, the spirit vision doesn’t help me see at all. I tried changing my display options to brighter or dimmer but nothing helped. The whole screen is still completely whited out and I can barely just see the outline of the feet for the first character. I tried brute forcing it but I can’t even see where the other figures are standing to know if I’m not just tapping on the same one.

I wanted to like this game but for $5 I’m seriously disappointed. Also, the hints menu scroll doesn’t work and is super glitchy.

### 1/5 — iPad mini 5 17.5.1

*2024-08-28, version 2.0.0*

I can’t see under the ice to solve puzzle. I tried changing display light and didn’t work so I can’t finish the game. I like it so far.

### 1/5 — Nicely written but badly ported

*2024-04-27, version 2.0.0*

Probably easier to play on another platform. Couldn’t progress past the horse rune puzzle as the graphics obscured the puzzle more than on other platforms.

Otherwise lovely.

### 1/5 — Didn’t work

*2021-01-02, version 1.2*

Got 2 minutes in and it frooze stopped working 😡

### 1/5 — Cut the sound!

*2020-01-17, version 1.2*

This might be a good game but with no ability to silence the annoying music it has lost ALL it's appeal.

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2018-03-22, version 1.1*

This an absolute load of rubbish, I pay the same price for quality games like the room...this is cheap and a waste of money...played it for about 10 minutes and that was enough. Am requesting my money back

### 1/5 — „Western von Gestern“

*2017-11-30*

Unterirdisches Gameplay. Ich bin froh, dass ich es nicht bezahlen musste.

### 2/5 — Rune stones impossible to read

*2024-07-15, version 2.0.0*

This game could have been much better, but the ice on the rune stones was too bright, which made them impossible to see. I had to use a walkthrough and guess the positions on the stone to tap for the raven and wolf rune stones, and I could barely make out the correct weapons on the horse rune stone. It’s a miracle that I managed to complete them.

Otherwise the art was very good and my primary complaint is that the game was too short.

### 2/5 — Snoozefest with a side of meh

*2020-09-29*

To be fair, the graphics and interface are undeniably attractive; aesthetics hold no ground however when the rest of the game falls so flat.

Beyond it being inordinately boring with unnecessarily lengthy and dramatic dialogue, there’s this constant bane of wondering what to do next... and early on you realize that you don’t care what to do next because you’ve completely lost interest in this puzzle-less nap.

I also truly disliked that the game itself doesn’t fill your screen- inventory and visuals are so small to begin with so not having the game stretch to the full width of your screen does it no favors.

### 2/5 — Tedious

*2018-09-09*

Long tedium monologues, no real puzzles just walking around and finding stuff
Quite disappointing

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — So beautiful!

*2025-09-15, version 2.0.3*

This is the best point and click game out there. The art is stunning, and Wardruna does the soundtrack— top tier. Plus it teaches Norse mythology. Gorgeous game, all, I sincerely hope to see a follow up to this soon.

### 5/5 — Play this game!

*2025-03-21, version 2.0.3*

Loved this game. Gorgeous art, story and characters. Game play is just the right amount of challenging. If you get stuck, though, hints are built in to the game. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a Myst-like old timey game.

### 5/5 — Excellent concept! Puzzles could use some help

*2021-01-05*

I love the overall concept and execution of this game. The story is interesting, it stays true to Norse mythology & the production value is excellent. The music and voice work blew me away, I was not expecting that from a $5 game! That being said, some of the puzzles were confusing in their execution, which made me feel lost at times & reliant on the included hints. I still give 5 stars however, as the hints were included for free & unlocked as I played. Great job, hope to see more in the future!

### 5/5 — Brilliant game!

*2020-12-11, version 1.2*

Thoroughly enjoyed it, loved the sound track, my only complaint was that I ran out of game before I ran out of desire to play!

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2020-11-12, version 1.2*

I wish it was a bit harder and longer but I loved it. I want more!

### 5/5 — Worth the price

*2020-08-11*

Some games are real art and immerse you in a different world. Frostrune is one of those. The puzzles were not all that hard but thoroughly enjoyable to play. I didn’t feel cheated as some have said although it didn’t take me too long to finish. I like the way the story developed. This game embodied what I love in adventure games, immersion in a different world and puzzles.

### 5/5 — Sehr stimmungsvolles Adventure!

*2020-07-14*

### 5/5 — Cooles Spiel

*2020-06-21*

Knifflige Rätsel, schöne Animationen, tolle Musik❤️👍

### 5/5 — I loved it!

*2020-04-08*

It was buggy tbh. for a while there was a thing that wouldn’t let me finish past the horse level—I’d get the thing right but it would crash out, so i deleted the game, mad at myself for paying for it. but i came back to it and manages to finish it and wow. the story was so simple but effective and all the side puzzles served the main point of the game, and you could really just click around and look at stuff.

the sound is beautiful! the ghosts were A+—whoever was singing those voices, thank you. The art is stunning, wow. What a gorgeous game. over all I’m really happy I came back to this.

### 5/5 — Very Well Done

*2020-01-17*

This is a very high quality game in almost every way. The story is excellent, especially if you like Norse mythology. The setting is mysterious and a little creepy at times. The sound, music, and voice acting were well done, and the spectre vision was very cool. Overall, I really enjoyed the game, especially the fact that hints came with it. If only it was longer, but it was still long enough to be a good game.
