As I began to set it up for my two kids under 6 years old, I noticed quite a few confusing pay options. After 20 minutes of just deciding what our 3 character set ups would be we lost our patience. Needless to say we never even started the game despite paying for it already. No thanks, too complicated. I loved the Game of Life as a kid, and I loved the digital version when it was designed like the original board game. Now, this version is completely different and the original is no longer on the App Store. Monopoly devs at least had the sense to allow continued digital access to the original game after releasing their own dumb, watered-down Monopoly GO. God forbid the Game of Life devs pay any attention to the generations of players that made this game as popular as it is today. All this version does is cater to 6-year olds and make me feel like an infantile idiot for ever trying to relive fond childhood memories. Specifially: 1. The new design is cheap, childish, and makes it look like a Kroger brand rip-off of the real thing. 2. The minigames are an aimless addition with poor controls, bad graphics, and only make the game feel even more infantile and kitchy. 3. I have zero interest in being forced to play a minigame and likely losing money (see #5) just because another player lands on the space. Go back to straightforward lawsuits and Spin-to-Wins. Player agency is a good thing. 4. It’s so stupid that you only get to buy a starter home/home if you land on certain spaces. Again…player agency. 5. The spin-wheel is poorly balanced/randomized. It’s like when Apple originally randomized playlists and they were TOO random, leading to over-repetition of certain songs and under-repetition of others. Sometime less is more with randomization. I am absolutely floored by the fact that this version of the Game of Life made it through playtesting. And to think I had to PAY for this?? Go play the real thing if you value fun.
