### 3/5 — Not found!

*2024-01-25, version 1.3.30*

I use to use this app all the time but now it’s like every time I try to use it, it can’t find what I’m scanning. I was actually getting on to see if it needed to be updated (it doesn’t, updated last week) because I scanned a sauce that has been in my pantry for months, so it’s not even new and it couldn’t find it.

### 4/5 — Essential resource, room for improvement

*2023-11-24, version 1.3.20*

This app is such a vital tool for a Celiac, and especially for my non-Celiac family members who understand less about how to read food labels and find food that is safe for me to eat. When they can scan a food label and get a clear GLUTEN FREE or CONTAINS GLUTEN label, that is very helpful.

Most of the time, you get a more ambiguous “No gluten-containing ingredients” which then requires the research rabbit hole us Celiacs are all familiar with. I know it must be really hard to add in manufacturer info beyond the ingredient list and certification status of many thousands of products. One feature idea is to add a voting system or comments on individual products so celiacs can easily share notes such as “I called the manufacturer and they told me x,y,z” or “this brand is generally safe” etc. This would be hugely helpful, since the users of this app have to do tons of research on everything we eat anyway, and it would be helpful to scan a barcode and if it isn’t a clear GF or non-GF, to benefit from the research other celiacs have done. Could partner with celiac.com, which is where a lot of this research is disseminated.

Another suggestion for iOS: integration with the Control Center so you can call up the scanner as easily as the phone’s flashlight or camera. Also, adding Shortcuts capabilities so app users can improve access and usability on their own devices. Generally, the app could use some improvement on its user interface and navigation. Like I said, it’s an invaluable resource, but I’d love to see it making incremental improvements to its database and usability. I really hope this happens!

Anyway, thank you for doing this work, I am so grateful.

### 2/5 — Was great but lacks new SKU’s

*2023-09-13, version 1.3.20*

App was great but doesn’t seem to be updated for many current SKU’s. Constantly getting “Barcode number not found” for common products.

### 3/5 — Love it when it works

*2023-03-20, version 1.3.11*

It work’s on some barcodes but there is multiple I’ve scanned and it doesn’t have any information on it, but works great when it is a good on the app.

### 3/5 — It’s okay

*2022-03-29, version 1.2.41*

It’s nice to look up stuff to see if it’s gluten free or not but I’m mad I paid for an app for it to constantly glitch/freeze

### 2/5 — Keeps crashing. Samsung works. iPhone not so much.

*2020-12-24, version 1.2.3*

Over 100 attempts at scanning and the screen just goes white after every scan. Need to kill the app to get out of the white screen. My wife's Samsung seems to work great- my iPhone 12 Pro Max- not so much.

### 3/5 — Love the idea- but issues!

*2020-10-23, version 1.2.3*

So Aldi, Whole Foods and Giant Eagle are most common for having a lot of GF options.
As of today - the “search ingredients” part of the app is broken/ not working/ won’t search.

Also- if there was a photo of the actual ingredients list, that would be super helpful as most celiac has other issues/ allergies and would be nice to see all in one place. If you opened it up w that- I think you’d expand your audience!

Aldi has the most items that are “regular” not labeled GF and has half the amount of garbage, ingredients you can’t even pronounce, I would love to see these items in your list. Since one they are healthier already and even cheaper - people w celiac are also spending more - so this dramatically helps!

Thanks for this app. When it does work- it’s nice.

### 4/5 — Wonderful

*2020-06-29, version 1.2.3*

About a year ago I was diagnosed with celiac and this has been a great help. I only wish they could add foods from Trader Joe’s but other than that it scans just about anything.👏👏👏

### 3/5 — Database needs increase / user submissions

*2020-02-02, version 1.2.3*

Ipiit and Fitbit allow for users to submit entries to be added to the database if the item isn’t there. GlutenFree Scanner, even in the paid version, does not. It also doesn’t have a wide enough database.

### 2/5 — Just Okay

*2019-05-21, version 1.2.3*

I feel like $3.99 is alot to pay for this particular app. I originally bought it to help me navigate going gluten free but I am finding a majority of what I scan/look up isn’t even listed in the app. I will probably keep it for a bit longer just to see if anything changes but if not it is easier and takes less time to google the item.

### 4/5 — White out

*2019-04-25, version 1.2.3*

I could like the app, but I have to delete it and reinstall it, I have had it about three hours and have had to do it twice, when I scan the whole page is white and you can’t to anything but click the home button and delete the app. Plus I’m charged each time! It’s a great app, if it works,

### 4/5 — Autoimmune disease

*2019-04-07, version 1.2.3*

I have thyroid disease and alopecia which is autoimmune so I’m trying to go gluten free I hope this app works and says it’s gluten free

### 2/5 — Refund?

*2019-03-05, version 1.2.3*

I bought this twice by accident and cannot get a refund on one? Ugh.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not updated.

*2025-09-21, version 1.3.30*

Database hasn’t been updated in quite some time since I purchased this several years ago, even if it says the app itself has been updated.

### 1/5 — Poor

*2024-02-03, version 1.3.30*

I just purchased today and walked through my kitchen and the first five items I scanned it didn’t recognize. Poor app. Wish I could get my money back.

### 1/5 — Database missing too many things

*2023-08-13, version 1.3.20*

As a newly diagnosed Celiac patient, I am looking for an app that I can quickly scan items while shopping. I don’t want to spend all day at the store reading every label, I just want a quick yes or no.

This could be a good app, but so many common items are missing from the database. I could understand store brand products missing, but Ruffles chips and Ben’s rice? These are national brands!

### 1/5 — Gf

*2021-03-30, version 1.2.41*

Does not tell if gluten free

### 1/5 — Not worth it.....

*2020-08-05, version 1.2.3*

It can read 1 out of 15 barcodes (for me). I don’t like how it just flashes yellow. It doesn’t say what makes it a caution product. I usually end up googling the product for an answer. Would NOT buy again.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work!!!

*2020-01-10, version 1.2.3*

I was very excited about this app so I just decided to download the full version, and so disappointed because I keep getting a msg saying no internet connection... I can tell you with confidence that My internet is not the issue because I’ve been working in IT for a long time. I even tried downloading it on my IPad and same issue... I keep getting msg: NO INTERNET CONNECTION FOUND... I will give it one more day and if it doesn’t work I will get a refund..

### 1/5 — Barcode not found

*2020-01-09, version 1.2.3*

I recently got the full version thinking it would have more product results and was very disappointed. Only 1 of the 5 things I scanned actually pulled up whether it was gluten free or not. Total waste of money

### 1/5 — Not accurate

*2019-12-29, version 1.2.3*

More than once I’ve accidentally bought something that the scanner says is ok (ordered online). Turn the packaging and it says “contains wheat”. My mistake, but this app is not reliable.

### 1/5 — Very Unhappy

*2019-04-10, version 1.2.3*

Just bought this app and was all excited thinking it would be easier to find stuff GF considering I have a Gluten intolerance. I tried to scan these HEB pork meatballs we got and it said “no record found” and then we tried to search them to no avail. I’m disappointed in this app that is pretty pricey at $4 for something basic that isn’t even updated properly.

### 1/5 — Too many things not in the database

*2018-12-08, version 1.2.3*

My husband bought this for me and I was so excited at first. One item I scanned was a plain chocolate flavor and it kept coming back with cookie crunch flavor. That brand had that flavor but it definitely was not the one I was scanning.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great App!! Perfect

*2025-05-04, version 1.3.30*

It’s a great app that is way faster than others available and it’s way less money without the recurring fees of the others, the developer cares and builds a great solution! Hopefully soon he will build an add on for dairy checking as well!!!

### 5/5 — I’m about to eat my self. Have you ever watch a man eat his own head? I’m about to

*2020-07-04, version 1.2.3*

I really thought this was going to be so hard with a new diet . But it’s so easy to use this app to find food and ingredients. I was so scared because I was just planning on eating my own head . Not no more . I’m eating good and it’s healthy! Thank you for creating this app. I like my head.
Thank you

### 5/5 — Saved my life!!!!!

*2020-06-08, version 1.2.3*

I have celiac disease and this app has saved me and my husband a lot of trouble!!! When I send my husband to market he uses this app for my safety!!!!!

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2020-02-03, version 1.2.3*

This app is AMAZING!!! I share it with people every chance I get. It has helped answer so many questions and has made shopping SOO much easier! THANK YOU!!!!

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2020-01-10, version 1.2.3*

My granddaughter has celiac, and I depend on this app. It has been wonderful until this last week. When I try to scan, it comes up with check internet connection and shuts off. It happens in the store and at home with wifi. I have to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work. Then it does it again. Please help me. Thank you! It is working now! This app is a lifesaver!

### 5/5 — AMAZING APP

*2019-12-26, version 1.2.3*

This makes food shopping so much easier. The majority of items I scan come up. There are however a few that do not. I love this app it made life so much easier!!!

### 5/5 — Advertisers should take note of this app

*2019-12-06, version 1.2.3*

Cons: the “no internet connection” error message is common and annoying. Everyone I know with the app experiences it. Happens on WiFi and cell signal. The upside of this issue is I have always been able to correct it by just closing and opening the app.
Unless I am missing it there isn’t an easy way to submit items that aren’t in the database for review so they can see what we’re looking at and get it added.
Also not seeing restaurants and fast food gf menu items.

Pluses: very fast and easy to use. Massive database of food items. Varied results gf/may contain/has gluten, trustworthiness, and a lot of suggested gf food to look through like cookies etc.

If you are shopping for gf this app is a must, period.

I think the app is missing a lot of involvement from restaurants, fast food, and tons of the gf products in the database. Many restaurants, pizza places, fast food etc are adding gf or are totally gf. Why aren’t they in this app? I would love to be able to see a list of gf restaurants, bakeries and menu items/options for fast food etc on this app. Their marketing departments should look to participate in this app to make it a one stop shop for gf and get more exposure too.

But again, if you want or need gf, this is the best app for you. We have used it for a long time and scanned many hundreds of items.

### 5/5 — Awesome app!!!

*2019-08-09, version 1.2.3*

Love this app, takes the guessing out , especially when you at the grocery store and an item has ingredients that you can’t figure out , the restaurant info is awesome.

### 5/5 — Very helpful in the grocery store

*2019-01-01, version 1.2.3*

Just got this because we think or daughter had a gluten intolerance. Paid for the full app right off the bat while I was shopping. Started scanning immediately and it worked perfectly on every single item I scanned. Thanks!!!

### 5/5 — Thank you!!

*2018-11-29, version 1.2.3*

Celiac disease is tough and you guys are making things better for everyone who’s struggling!! Cheers!!
