## What is The Guild of Thieves?

The Guild of Thieves is an award winning classic text adventure game released by Magnetic Scrolls in 1987.

You are an aspiring member of the infamous Guild of Thieves whose legendary exploits and daring deeds pervade Kerovnian folklore. For the test assignment, you have been challenged to ransack a castle, the surrounding area and even the Bank of Kerovnia itself of all valuables. Are you up to it? Frankly we doubt it.

Magnetic Scrolls was a British video game developer active between 1984 and 1990. A pioneer of audio-visually elaborate text adventure games. It was one of the two largest and most acclaimed interactive fiction developers of the 1980s.

The original game has been restored and improved by Stand Games (with permission) and adapted for modern devices, with a vastly improved UI.

Features include:

* Touch-Text Commands
Tap "links" in the text to perform commands without typing.

* Game specific word suggestion
Tap suggested words from the word bar during input to save time.

* Sidebar Inventory
All your things are conveniently listed in a sidebar with icons. Drag and drop to use them or to apply them to things in the main text.

* Dynamic Map
No need to draw out the map, we do it for you. As you explore the game, the map page will expand. Tap any previous room on the map to "fast-goto" that location.

* Compass Rose
Quickly navigate with a handy compass gadget. It shows the available exits at all times, simply tap to move.

The new facilities make the original game fun and entertaining to play on modern mobiles. No more dead ends; the remaster has multi-level undo, save/load game and automatic undo from dying!

There's also the original artwork, the animated artwork and new music from the original artist John Malloy (thanks John!).

This is a fine, well adjusted and thoughtful refinement of a classic text adventure. I really enjoyed it a lot. I think it’s perfect for fans and a good start for newbies of this long forgotten genre.

Very unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly, these Magnetic Scrolls games have no support for the iOS built-in screen reader, VoiceOver. The games are thus unplayable by blind players. Given that the primary interface remains essentially textual, the original games have been playable in Magnetic on Windows or glkmagnetic in macOS. Please either make the remakes fully playable or else allow the game files to be exported for use by the other interpreter programs.

A big thank you to the team at Strand Games for bringing back the wonderful Magnetic Scrolls games, and remastering them so they are now a joy to play on IPads/mobile phones etc.  I am an original fan of Magnetic Scrolls, and to this day 'The Guild of Thieves' is still my favourite computer game.  I am now enjoying playing it again, as well as the remastered 'The Pawn'. I really like the logical puzzles of these games, the excellent writing - which created a wonderfully atmospheric world, humour, and of course the graphics.  I've just started playing the remastered version but I can already tell it has added a lot of benefit to the game with auto mapping and all the extra options.  Even the start up screen is remastered with music, which if I remember correctly it didn't have before?  Really good music too that fits the game perfectly. 

I recommend everyone who likes a good story, and puzzles that are logical but really make you think, to buy this game and any other Magnetic Scrolls game.  They are good value for money as they contain a lot of gameplay.  Really looking forward Strand Games' further Magnetic Scrolls releases, I believe the next one is 'Jinxter'.
