### 3/5 — Good, but...

*2018-04-26*

Okay so it’s a good game, Choice of LLC always makes good games, but it seems rather short for the price. Don’t get me wrong it’s good, but if you’re looking for a medieval text adventure game, I’d recommend Choice of the Wizard or The Last Monster Master. And okay it’s more of a super villain theme, but I highly recommend Diabolical!

### 3/5 — Short and a bit too "progressive" for want of a better word but still good.

*2017-10-03*

It's pretty good. I like the fact that you can become a jack-of-all-trades type successfully (I've done it, it was nowhere near as easy as going full power, full will, full subterfuge or full eloquence, though).

One thing that, well, "bothers" might be putting too strong an emphasis on it but, for a mostly medieval society, the women of the land are pretty well respected though it's fantasy and probably for the best, anyway for the enjoyment of the players.

Furthermore, this is probably the first game I've encountered that let's you pick a "non-binary" gender and have you able to write your own pronouns in (I had some fun with that in one playthrough). Maybe it's just because I'm not used to it but I found it a bit odd.

There are a few quality of life upgrades they could have, being able to buy more than 1 item in the market if you have the money for it springs to mind.

With all that being said, though. It's pretty fun and will probably give you a handful of hours of enjoyment.

### 3/5 — Okay

*2016-12-27, version 1.0.5*

Too short for 5 dollars.

### 4/5 — A Good Addition to your Choice of library.

*2016-11-18, version 1.0.5*

Well written, engaging, and highly customizable/replay able. 1 star removed for protagonists awkward transition to importance at the end. Easily recommendable, however.

### 3/5 — Too short for the price

*2015-11-11, version 1.0.5*

An okay game, although a bit hard to grow attached to the characters. Too short for the price tag.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2015-10-11*

You earned five stars at 'stop right there criminal scum'.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2015-10-09*

Love it, hours of gameplay please make a sequel :)

### 3/5 — Good game, not worth $5

*2015-09-17*

This game is alright, I couldn't find many problems if any Edith this game except just the way it was written. Also this game's quality is no better than many other games that I've played for $2.99. I just didn't get into this game as much as I have others and for $5 I would expect a greater experience with a longer story and more repeatability. The only thing different from choosing who you side with the the pay and the leisurely past-times. The quests are all exactly the same and in the same order, using the exact same wording no matter if you are a thief wizard or servant-at-arms. Now I should have expected this but for $5 I was hoping for more.

### 5/5 — Best

*2015-09-06, version 1.0.5*

This is a great game

### 5/5 — Great game

*2015-08-23*

This game was really great but the thing that I'm wondering is that is this story going to continue because it ended so suddenly after you. Either get money or get a house or nothing or a position at the city. I hope this gets a sequal

### 5/5 — Review

*2015-07-26, version 1.0.5*

A very well-written saga, with a multitude of colorful characters and various destinies.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2015-07-08, version 1.0.4*

Played through a few times and really enjoyed this story. Well written and well played out.

### 5/5 — Absolute Kaufempfehlung..

*2015-05-17*

### 5/5 — Can't wait

*2015-05-10, version 1.0.4*

This game is the Skyrim of text Adventures! I can not wait for the sequel

### 5/5 — OUTSTANDING

*2015-05-05*

This is probably the 3rd review I ever written. All I can say it's a must buy. I've never really been a books reader lol. I was bored and gave sorcery a chance and loved it. Then I found this gem and looked at it reluctantly over a week and just thought @&@$ it I'm going to grab it. Only just started but absolutely loving it. And easily can tell the replayabiltity of this game will keep me coming back :). Great job guys XD

### 5/5 — Good

*2015-04-16*

The game was one of my favorite ones, but this one lacked an important part unlike any of the other ones "romance". I mean to me that is the most entertaining part that makes play it over and over again.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Don't bother with this one

*2015-12-24*

I've bought and enjoyed a lot of these "Choice of Games" stories but this one is pretty poorly done. It seems like your choices often don't matter much as you will end up with results that contradict your choices. You aren't given much of a chance to develop or alter your core attributes. I noticed quite a few mistakes that slipped through editing. Overall it was not an engaging story, it seemed like there were too many fixed plot points with not enough choice, and it was not particularly well-written. This is the first Choice of Games story that I was outright disappointed in. Give this one a miss.

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2017-05-08*

I suppose it depends on the reason you are playing, but for me I was pretty underwhelmed and couldn't finish it. There's barely any character relationships (whether romantic or platonic), and very little time invested in fleshing out side characters. Also, as an adventure game, I was expecting maybe a group of friends you collect along the way (warrior, rogue, mage, etc), but I got pretty far in to it and was still alone for all of it. Because I didn't finish it, it's possible this changes later on, but I felt I played far past long enough to get the flow of how the game was going. I did like the world-building and the gender diversity of passing characters, though.

### 2/5 — Mediocre and too heavily priced

*2016-07-22*

I love most of the games these guys put out. But Kendrickstone, while not horrible is not worth 6 dollars.

It's a totally average game. It should've been priced at around 2 or maybe 3 bucks.

I suggest only purchasing this if the price goes down because otherwise I'm sorry to state that it's a waste otherwise.

### 2/5 — Okay-ish

*2016-07-20*

Was in the mood for a generic medieval fantasy setting so I picked this one up. It's okay compared to other choice games but didn't capture me. The writing was fine but the game elements felt very tacked on as if it didn't matter what my actual stats were in most cases.

That said the ending is amateur hour and unforgivable. After playing for several hours the final boss fight amounts to "a pick the right choice because I'm the author and this is what I say needs to happen," event. I didn't pick the right choice and was given a prompt "you died" screen. No epilogue, no interesting details about what my characters death and failure meant for the rest of the generic fantasy world, nothing. There are many better choice games out there and this one is not worth your time unless you've played all those other ones.

### 2/5 — Good but short

*2015-04-09*

Game was pretty good but the end came way to fast. You do three "quests" and then you reach the final quest. When I got to the final quest I honestly thought it was only gonna be the first BIG quest of several not the only one. There isn't even much replayability because no matter what my choices the story goes practically the same way with the only defining difference is you'll lose if you pick the wrong choice(s).

Overall this just isn't worth the price given the content (or lack thereof) this provides.

### 2/5 — Eh

*2015-04-06*

So, for me, the length and the level of some intricate details was impressive. However, I found the writing to be pretty adolescent in nature (the vernacular and such didn't really fit the setting and it felt like the dialogue was created by a teenager sometimes). I didn't really enjoy any of the side characters and, frankly, grew bored when they appeared. I didn't like how there aren't 'relationships' to develop (friendship and otherwise) which kind of took away from the interactive fiction feel I'm used to experiencing. While 'The Lost Heir' isn't perfect, I much preferred the detailing, character development, and setting of that to this game here. The Hero of Kendrickstone just didn't do it for me :/

### 2/5 — Meh

*2015-03-27*

I'm into medieval stuff, seriously. I had high hopes for this game but it came up well short. Your choices don't matter except to build abilities. So the story will be the same every time with the same conversations and the same people asking the same things of you. It's also fairly short overall... Think choice of broadsides length with more filler.

I'd recommend selecting a different game as this ones world just isn't very flushed out aside from generic tropes.

### 2/5 — No true choices

*2015-03-23*

This game is probably one of the worst choice of games available. Although the story seems well written, the first choice is your only real choice. There are four unique paths to get to the end, but that's it. After the first choice, you already decided how the entire story will go.

### 2/5 — Not for me I'm afraid

*2015-03-21*

Many others have rated titles by the same developer as very good and so if you into this genre of game I'd imagine you'll enjoy this, however for me it wasn't worth the money.

The writing itself is acceptable but the plot and character behaviours aren't believable. The game is also short - even considering replays (as there are multiple paths).

If you're into this style of game then it's probably good given the developers history, but for me if this is one of the better developers in the genre I think I'll give the genre a skip next time.

### 2/5 — Horribly average

*2015-03-14, version 1.0.1*

As someone who's played mecha ace and sabers of infinity this game was a disappointment.

### 5/5 — Next Part!?!?

*2018-02-12*

This isn’t really a review I just need to know when the next part is coming out

### 5/5 — Majestic, Awe-inspiring, mind-blowing story!

*2017-05-13*

This is what you are looking if you want to feel like you want to experience the adventure of a badass hero rising from nothing. It is wonderful. I have no other description but that.

### 5/5 — Very Nice!!!!

*2017-03-22*

Another game where you are not forced into interactions with lgbt characters. A step up from what choice of usually does. Any game that doesn't force you to be around characters you wouldn't hang around in real life is okay in my book. I just want a sequel.

### 5/5 — Great Fantasy

*2017-03-11*

I am a fan of the choice of games stories. I really enjoyed this fantasy game/story. It really felt like they gave me meaning full choices and I was not forced too choose one; just because it would make writing the story easier. I was truly immersed into this world.

### 5/5 — One of my favorites

*2016-12-02, version 1.0.5*

Bard path best path.
WANT SEQUEL NOW.

### 5/5 — Need a sequel please!

I WANT MORE

### 5/5 — 10/10

*2015-12-02*

Such a great game, I couldn't stop. Keep up the great work!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2015-11-26*

Great story and meaningful choices. Looking forward to a sequel.

### 5/5 — Beautifully written, fast paced and a lot of fun.

*2015-10-28*

'The Hero of Kendrickstone' is possibly my favourite of the 'Choice Of' games. The prose is excellent, both dramatic and funny, and the choices the game offers have a large affect on the storyline. The setting is detailed and interesting with plenty of lore to read though, and the inclusion of drawn maps and background information add a lot

The only negative I can think of is that it is fairly easy to mess up and fail in certain situations, which makes getting through the following ones very difficult. This is problematic as there is no way to go back to a previous chapter - you can only restart the game entirely. Still, once you understand the basic structure of the game you can make your way through it easily enough, though this may require serval restarts.

Overall, the game is great for fans of text adventures and fantasy. It's a fun and exciting read, with well written characters, an interesting setting and lots of replay value thanks to the many choices it offers. I definitely recommend it.
