### 2/5 — Bring back the other interface

*2025-01-26*

The redesign of the user interface is e to the x worse that what you had before. To boot the paper doesn’t begin as it should until you go through several gyrations. My guess is you did not test this on users before you released it or if you did it clearly was not a broad selection of age groups. It is beyond me how anyone can say this is better than the coders probably the same ones that coded your payment site

### 4/5 — Support Your Local Newspaper

*2021-07-13*

Not as slick as the NYT or WaPo apps, but very good rendition of our local paper. Paper is printed only a few times per week, but daily updates through the app.
Support your local newspaper.
They are our only reputable source of local information.

### 1/5 — Unusable app

*2019-06-29*

I canceled my subscription before due to this app. I thought it may have improved. Unfortunately it has not changed.

### 1/5 — Unfriendly website

*2019-06-05*

I would give a zero star rating but they don’t let you do that. Impossible to access site. Their help site folks are snooty and of no help. So I am paying for a site I cannot access.

### 1/5 — Horrible App

*2019-06-05*

This app is unstable and crashes all the time. You can finally get through the newspaper after two or three restarts.

### 1/5 — Sad attempt.

*2017-08-02, version 2.6.73*

I had hopes for this even after getting the most irresponsible response possible when we subscribed to the print. In the 6 months we never got all issues in any week. Usually the Sunday issue was missing. Two weeks in a row I called and someone brought it by later in the day. The last week they said they'd bring it and then never showed. Their excuse was that one carrier did weekdays and another did Sundays and "she wasn't used to us." After we cancelled we got bi-weekly calls for six months asking us to renew. Forget this.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work any more

*2017-03-15, version 2.6.73*

I finally got used to the online edition, but after the last app update, I can no longer access it. I pay automatically, but the app only recognizes iTunes payment. I will likely cancel

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2015-04-21, version 5.67*

What good is this paper if u can't retrieve it without having to go through a lot junk to read it. Rep told me it would b good to go on Monday, she had to b joking!! It's worthless to me.

### 1/5 — Invalid password

*2015-04-19, version 5.67*

Keep getting login and password invalid, completely useless app.

### 1/5 — App doesn't work

*2015-04-19, version 5.67*

App asks for email and password then indicates that credentials are invalid.

### 1/5 — New app access

*2015-04-18, version 5.67*

I cannot login to updated app. Tried to reset my password but that did not work. Is app broke?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Going down hill

*2026-03-03*

And has been for years

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2025-01-31*

[January 2025 Update] The new “improved” interface isn’t much of an improvement. It at least seems to remember better which page I was on when I close my iPad to get a cup of coffee. The downside is that I have to start the app again. That’s not true for most iOS apps.

One complaint (which another reviewer also noted) is that now it takes several clicks to open the next edition. Maybe you could provide some options for how we want the app to start up.

I miss the bar at the top that gave fast access to the different sections. Now it takes an additional click to get there. And when I select a section, that section isn’t first in the array of thumbnail pages, it’s last.

And why do the comics keep moving around? Every day it seems the pages get shuffled. And finally, what happened to the “Shoe” comic strip?

This newspaper seems to be going the same way lots of products have gone — I’m paying more and more for less and less.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2024-05-19*

If I could, I’d give this zero stars. This is one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. The biggest problem is, it seems to have Alzheimer’s, because it can’t remember anything for 5 seconds. Reading the newspaper, and get a text? Switch away from this app for a few seconds, and guess what? You have to find your place all over again! You even have to open the edition you were reading!! This is especially annoying when working the puzzles, because if you have already partially solved one, ha!! Too bad, have to start all over! The index is also inadequate. If you’re looking for coverage of a particular story, unless they happened to include it as one of the two or three they specifically list in the index, you just have to search. Is it in the South section, or maybe the Nation? No way to know except to swipe your way through the different sections. Then, of course, there’s a good chance it’s not there at all, because their coverage is very spotty. There used to be more Opinion columns in the printed newspaper too. Now it seems there’s barely one, if that. And finally, there seem to be a lot fewer obituaries. I suppose fewer people are willing to pay the exorbitant price they charge when they can’t even get a printed copy of it.

[May 2024 Update]
Well, they’ve completely changed the UI, but they haven’t fixed any of the underlying bugs. I use the iPad version. Closing the iPad to go get a cup of coffee will mean you probably have to start over. I have yet to read a single issue without at least one crash.

### 1/5 — Very unhappy

*2021-11-14*

We were promised an e-edition of our Huntsville Times for when we were on vacation. THIS IS NOT THAT! Light on content. Comics are better, obits are nice, but this is a toy newspaper.

### 1/5 — Bring paper back

*2021-10-21*

This is new “thing” is horrible. I want my newspaper back!!!

### 1/5 — Huntsville Times e-edition

*2021-10-21*

what happened to my e-edition of the Huntsville Times? I do NOT this Huntsville Lede version. I want my e-edition back

### 1/5 — Please Bring Back The E-Edition

*2021-10-19*

Please bring back the e-edition exact replica of the print paper that as available until mid-October 2021 when it was replaced by “The Lede”. Thanks!

### 1/5 — Bring back the Huntsville Times

*2021-10-15, version 7.0.0.6*

AL.COM has replaced the Huntsville Times app with The Lede, a news magazine which is an insult to subscribers that value a newspaper. It is impossible now to read the newspaper on an iPad. The only feature worthwhile on The Lede is the comics, which is totally appropriate for this replacement.

### 1/5 — Update a Bust!

*2021-10-12*

New update does not allow viewing the print version of the Huntsville Times. You only get a magazine type publication. Bring back the old app!!

### 5/5 — Great News Paper

I enjoy the paper online everyday.

### 5/5 — HSV news

*2022-10-03*

I think there’s more news in here than in the newspaper. I like the new format— easier to use. Took me a minute to get used to it, and now that I have, this is really good.

### 5/5 — Revised review.

*2022-01-24*

I did not give a very good review to begin with because I didn’t care for the new layout, but now that I have gotten used to the format I have found that I really like the Lede.

### 5/5 — Love The Lede

*2021-11-03*

Really am enjoying this new format. The content is good and the visual design is impressive. Thank you

### 5/5 — Hsv Times

*2020-09-17*

love the local news stories and supporting my local paper

### 5/5 — Great News Paper

*2020-07-06, version 6.31.81*

I enjoy the paper online everyday.

### 5/5 — Crashes a lot

*2015-07-16*

A decent viewer except for two problems - one big and one minor. Big - it crashes quite often, especially when downloading the daily news. Small - the comics have to be read one at a time rather than viewing all like you do in the paper edition.

### 5/5 — Well Done

*2012-08-10, version 2.1.0*

This is the future. Glad you guys have embraced it.

### 4/5 — Not all change is good

*2025-02-09*

Hate the new format - especially the sports section & how you access it. It’s clunky, requires too many actions, and does not include next day or whole week. The whole paper’s content is skimpy. Are you trying to lose subscribers?
