I thought Robert’s voice might grate after a while but I got too immersed in the story to notice. Gameplay was at times obscure (even some of the hints are cryptic!) however on my iPad I only had one freeze which was working the throne mechanism in Conrad’s suite. I did find that interaction could be a bit erratic and take several attempts to make object and location actually work together, but as there are no timed puzzles this wasn’t a major problem. And I loved the flute music, I’d have it as my ringtone if I could! All told a great little adventure game with a budget friendly price. It’s a shame the devs only made one sequel (currently downloading) and no other similar genre games. ### 3/5 — Controls *2025-01-10, version 1.51* The controls are a pita. C'est aussi une histoire très originale, bien écrite et pourvue d'humour. Occasional freeze on iPad mini, but just shut down and re-open. It did seem quite buggy on iPad with some interactions bringing the game to a stand still. The biggest problem however is a bug they’ve just decided to ignore and it stops you completing the penultimate scene. I tried emailing them to no avail so will mark low so others avoid the disappointment. ### 5/5 — Hilarious and well cast adventure *2022-04-16, version 1.51* Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert set the standard of fun and engaging game plots for me and I think The Inner World creators spun a story I looked forward to knowing what happened next. It’s one of those where your heart goes out to the characters involved. But importantly for me it is also meditative because there is no clock, no pressure, just good calm music and your brain, trying to hack away at the puzzle in front of you. Some adventures games have out there have gone the direction of reducing the challenge level to the point you are basically just clicking through dialogue, but I appreciate that the Inner World does make you think and you even get to combine items you find, to solve certain puzzles, which I’ve always loved. And a nice modern touch that the oldie games did not have is the hint system is there just in case you really get stuck. So as they say, I recommend without reservation. ### 4/5 — Inventar Bug gefixt *2021-12-28, version 1.51* Beim ersten durchlauf bin ich durch einen Bug - fehlendes Inventar - gestoppt worden. Hatte es dann gelöscht und 2 Tage später noch einmal installiert. Es kam der Hinweis das ein Bug im Inventar gefixt worden sei. Diesmal konnte ich bis zum Ende ohne Probleme durchspielen. Als Gerät habe ich ein IPad 10 Pro 15.2 benutzt. Die Steuerung ist manchmal etwas ungenau. Aber es geht... - es ist für ein altes Spiel schon Ok so ... ### 5/5 — Was für ein Hammer! *2021-12-12* Sehr fesselnde Story. Von wegen 8 Stunden und einfach. Ich musste öfters die Hilfe in Anspruch nehmen. Synchronisation einwandfrei. Sehr originell. Witze und Dialoge haben mir sehr gut gefallen. Grafik ist sehr gut gelungen. Man fühlt im ganzen Spiel und fiebert mit. Die Touch Steuerung auf meinem iPad Pro 12,9“ Pro 2018 braucht aber Nachbesserungen. Sie reagiert manchmal nicht, träge oder falsch. Ich habe es trotzdem durch gespielt. Ab und zu Abstürze hatte ich auch. Speicherstände bleiben erhalten. Was mir am meisten zu schaffen gemacht hat, waren die Rätsel. Ohne das Hilfesystem wäre ich nicht durch gekommen. Aber ich habe es nach ein paar Wochen (als Gelegenheitsspieler) geschafft. The only problem was that there was inaccuracy and delays in my button presses throughout the game on my iPhone that could get very frustrating at times. Also, it is a purely inventory based game. I would have loved some puzzles. ### 4/5 — Schönes Adventure mit 1 Abzug *2021-10-02* Wunderschön animiertes Point-and-Click-Adventure mit zwar nicht sehr originellem, aber liebevoll umgesetztem Plot, sehr guter Synchronarbeit (habe es nur auf Deutsch gespielt) und fantasievollen Rästeln, die Genrefans womöglich etwas unterfordern aber trotzdem viel Freude bereiten. Ich habe das Spiel auf einem iPhone 6s gespielt, es gab einige Abstürze und Aufhänger, aber der automatische Speicherstand blieb stabil und so wurde der Spielflow nicht beeinträchtigt. Einen (leider dicken) Punkt Abzug gibts allerdings für die Steuerung, die recht träge reagiert, zumindest auf dem Smartphone. So reagierte das Spiel teils nicht auf eigentlich korrekte Spiellösungen, was frustrierend sein kann (manchmal muss man eine Aktion 5-10 mal ausführen, bis das Spiel kapiert hat was man gerade tun will oder worauf man ein Element ziehen möchte. Für Menschen mit größeren Fingerkuppen sehr sehr schwierig. Es gibt leider keine zoom-Funktion.) Man muss dazu aber sagen, dass das gesamte Gameplay nicht fürs Smartphone optimiert ist, punkt. Trotzdem hatte ich Spaß. For example, when hovering over any subject, it only works about 1 out of 10 times. Additionally, the game often crashes or freezes, which is very disappointing. ### 1/5 — J’ai mis tout les ingrédients!! *2025-03-15* J’en suis arrivé au niveau de la grande porte. Malheureusement je ne peux pas passer le niveau étant donné que le jeu a visiblement un bug et a décidé que je n’avais pas mis tous les ingrédients pour faire la pâte ( pour faire la clé) en sachant que j’ai mis tous les ingrédients qui sont demandé. Donc là je suis bloqué, je ne peux pas avancer et il est hors de question que je reprenne tout le jeu depuis le début juste pour arriver à ce moment c’est super long. If you like games like Monkey Island and Deponia, you need to play The Inner World! ### 5/5 — I’m obsessed *2025-08-14, version 1.51* (Spoilers) I’m so in love with this whole game it’s incredible! Although clicking things is a little buggy and trying to use certain objects on certain things can take a few tries- the story just blew me out of the water. I love following Robert around and learning about Asposia as he also learns about the world himself. I love hearing his little depressing anecdotes about Conroy and how he doesn’t realise how awful he is until the second chapter. Eventually in the second to last chapter (or maybe the last one, I’m not sure when Asposia’s Last Hope starts) he just suddenly starts releasing all of his anger all at once and talking to Laura about it. Speaking of Conroy, he’s an amazing villain and he plays his job well. It’s clear from the beginning that he isn’t the nicest person and by the second chapter you learn that he is in fact a villain and working with the Basylian’s but I never in a millions years would’ve expected the Basylian’s to be mechanical beings. Oh, it’s just such a fun ride and it had me wanting to see more of this interesting little world that this game has built up. Although, if I’m honest, I’m a bit upset that Conroy died because I just really like him as an antagonist but I think the revived orchestra would’ve killed him if Robert didn’t so I see why he was killed off. Overall, 10/10 there’s just a few minor issues with interacting, as I’ve said but that doesn’t deter me from falling in love with this game and all the aspects of it. ### 5/5 — Perfectly quirky *2025-08-05, version 1.51* I absolutely loved every minute of playing this game. If you're a fan of well-crafted stories, I can't recommend this game enough. The land and citizens of Asposia will become dear to you, you'll adore Robert and Laura (and Peck!). This game has charm, wit, and even poignancy; it tackles some real topics, but in an easygoing way that focuses on the characters' personalities and resilience, keeping the mood upbeat. This game does have some moon logic- you'll need to combine some items that make no sense in real life- but there's an excellent hint system, don't be afraid to use it! The sequel has an equally wonderful story, and the puzzles are a lot more intuitive. Both the original and the sequel were a smooth play on IOS, apart from the occasional crash, which is no big deal with quick load times and frequent autosaves. ### 5/5 — Still fun *2024-12-31, version 1.51* I just played The Inner World again, after many years, and it is still creative and truly one off the best in the genre. It is a game that despite conflict, feels warm and hopeful. There are just too many wars and conflict in the real world for me, at least, to seek that out as entertainment.
