My biggest complaint is that the front page repeats the same stories multiple times while “hiding” a lot of good material inside. They clearly don’t invest in it. Do better, TIT! ### 2/5 — Irritatingly unreliable *2025-05-28* Would you please sort out the functionality of moving between sections! ### 2/5 — Disappointing lack of investment in this app *2025-03-08* The previous app before this one was better. For years now this newer app is a poor user experience, particularly disappointing for a paid subscriber. The location on screen jumps around when using forward/backward navigation. Page loading and rendering is not snappy, no excuse for this with relatively static content. I don’t have a problem with the content, but I’m getting tired of paying for a poor user experience that they don’t appear to have any interest in improving. Maybe it’s time to stop paying for this. ### 2/5 — The app is not bad but as soon as offline it is useless *2024-11-01* I cannot understand why the app cannot be used offline. As soon as my internet drops (e.g. on a train going through a tunnel) the whole app disappears, including the article that I was halfway through. Why does the article disappear? Nonsense. Nevermind having similar features to TheJournal which allows you to continue reading when offline. If it was free I would understand, but I am paying for this ### 1/5 — App won’t let me in! *2023-07-12, version 5.0.14* I have a subscription but can’t login … the phone app says ‘subscription only’ then the app hangs in an infinite loop. I’ve updated the app - can we fix this please🙃 ### 1/5 — This app. HAS landscape mode! *2023-01-29* I almost didn't try this app because of the many, many featured comments that complained that it doesn't have landscape mode. It does SO have landscape mode. So maybe do developer responses to those people asking them to update their reviews? UPDATE: I have modified my review from five stars to one star because apparently I am meant to PAY to read articles in landscape mode. That is unacceptable. ### 1/5 — Don’t download *2023-01-18* One of the worst apps I’ve ever DL’d on my iPhone. The developers thought it was a good idea to continually check if you’re logged into iCloud — if you’re not, a dialog box appears and reappears etc requiring you to turn off your phone to be able to get out of the app. ### 1/5 — Repeated cookie spam even within the app *2023-01-11* Another round of abusive screen blocking spam when i opened the app today, including the sneering dishonesty of "we value your privacy". I already clicked through this junk after installing and nothing has changed, so it should stay hidden. ### 3/5 — Quite a few spelling errors and is expensive *2022-12-11* Very expensive unless you’re really interested in getting an Irish tilt on news. The monthly subscription which I paid for, for some time is not comparable to other news apps very expensive. It states ‘Purchase error, Developer error’. ### 2/5 — Dreadful. Was fine before *2022-10-22* They used to have a perfectly good app which is now replaced by a much less user friendly one. It crashes frequently and won’t work offline. I cancelled subscription and hope they can improve it. If not it’s a massive failing to not have a search function for searching for an article on a given subject, as I found out today when I wanted to search for an article (I am a subscriber) that I had seen on a search engine search, but could not search within the app! ### 1/5 — Broken subscription *2021-10-28, version 4.3.7* I pay a subscription to the Irish Times but this app is asking to also pay via iTunes. This is not good enough! ### 1/5 — Twice had to ask for Refund from Apple *2021-07-09, version 4.3.7* Twice I’ve tried subscribing digitally to this App and twice I’ve had to ask Apple for a refund !! As an Irishman living in Madrid, I miss not having access to the Irish Times, tried a year ago to subscribe via the App, but kept on getting error messages saying ‘They’ve found my account but I don’t have any active subscription’. They had NO problem taking my money though. I couldn’t access my subscription via multiple iOS devices or via the browser on my laptop. Went through the complaints department only to be told that it was an issue with Apple ?? Not very helpful to be honest. Made a refund request to Apple and received a refund within days. Swore I wouldn’t try subscribe again….until yesterday. And guess what, same error messages ‘They’ve found my account but I don’t have an active subscription’ !! Once again they’ve charged me the FULL month already without any problems, have just received Apple’s confirmation purchase receipt email….and I can’t access my subscription…absolutely disgusted. I am currently awaiting another refund from Apple. I’ll spend my money on alternative news apps like the Irish Independent app and The Guardian, where I’ve NEVER had any problems again in the future as The Irsish Times seem to be incapable of providing me with any sort of service. You’ve lost an Irish Times lifelong reader. ### 3/5 — Where’s Landscape mode?? *2021-02-21* I like this app but find it very frustrating that it isn’t available in landscape mode for an iPad. Please add this functionality! Thanks. ### 1/5 — No good *2020-12-06, version 4.3.7* App is fixed in portait mode and doesn’t turn when in landscape mode. I use my iPad with a keyboard so this is incredibly frustrating, to the point where I don’t even bother using it on my iPad. I pay for a subscription and I can’t believe (and I’ve had my iPad 6 months now) that this hasn’t been resolved. ### 1/5 — Wholly disappointing *2020-06-11* As an Irish expat, it’s important for me to keep up to date on Irish news. Unfortunately the Irish Times isn’t the answer. The quality of the journalism is good, absolutely, but the app is too full of bugs and usability issues. It also almost never gets updated. Furthermore, the pricing isn’t competitive. When I meet an ITimes link in FB it’s likely to block over the subscriber issue sending me to this digital app unless I back out and open my own online copy. Okay I’m in the mad app. I can see the article in question clearly listed but it won’t open or ask for my login or do anything but look pretty. What kind of app is that? One thing more. The w**ker is now asking for my nickname. Next it tells me my purely spontaneous nickname is taken. What am I paying 11.99 a month for? ### 1/5 — As awful as ever *2025-09-09, version 5.2.4* the Irish Times make perhaps the worst apps you will see, not just the main newspaper app, but what possibly wins the title for worst app ever, MyHome.ie. You would think in this day and age it would be possible to make a news app that worked well, with good UX and was stable. I can’t read an article any more without submitting cookie preferences EVERY time! Sort it out! ### 1/5 — Great news outlet. Bad app *2023-12-31* When the app works it’s ok. It’s not very intuitive but I can generally find what I’m looking for. Saving a story for later works for me but only where it’s saved. For example a story saved on the iPad is not saved on the iPhone or web (I am logged in on all of them) A few months ago, and again right now the app tells me I am not a subscriber (I am a long time subscriber) so I can’t see subscriber only content (or use the regaled newspaper app at all. I get an unhelpful “contact customer services”. A link or number would be useful. I tried contacting them via the help pages. Put in my details & outline of the problem… goes to a 404 page not found A shame but I have now cancelled my subscription ### 1/5 — Shockingly bad *2023-10-09* Absolutely shockingly poor for a subscription I pay for. App crashes constantly, refuses to open. Frequently impossible to get back to the homepage. A momentary loss of internet connection causes the app to stop working completely and potentially for hours. Its now possible to view in landscape mode (how long did that take???). Its been crying out for an update for a long time, but it’s finally here. Photos and links work much better than before. The crosswords are a very nice feature. One small request though: could the font size/spacing be adjustable? I don’t like scrolling too much.
