### 4/5 — Crashing on iPhone 6+

*2018-01-05, version 1.1.20*

Just crashes at launch on iPhone 6+. That's on iOS 9.3.3. I know, it's old version, but still, this game says its supports iOS 8 and up so..

### 4/5 — Great but...

*2017-12-12, version 1.1.20*

Played this on the Speccy and love the iPhone version.
Worked fine on iPhone 7 with 11.2. Just got an iPhone X and crashes immediately.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2015-11-18, version 1.12*

I remember this from the spectrum days! Great conversion, I just can't stop playing it!

### 5/5 — A GREAT REMAKE OF A CLASSIC

*2014-11-18, version 1.12*

Imagination plays a big part in this fabulous game. BRIGHT BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS, GREAT GAMEPLAY, USING YOUR IMAGINATION MAKES FOR A GREAT GAMING EXPERIENCE.

### 5/5 — A classic brought back to life

*2014-06-11, version 1.12*

I spent years playing this game over and over again on the ZX Spectrum. I’m so glad to get the chance to play it again. This conversion is perfect, it’s actually better to play than the original.

### 5/5 — Wehey!!!!

*2014-02-17, version 1.12*

Really enjoyed this 30 years ago. What an absolute joy it is to play it on an ipad. Ooooooh, the memories! Thanks Chris. Thanks Mike.

Cheers...

### 5/5 — Best game ever!

*2014-01-19, version 1.12*

The work of a true gaming genius and beautifully and faithfully translated for iOS from the original classic. Love it...

### 5/5 — Great gameplay

*2014-01-01, version 1.12*

This is a great turn-based adventure game / war game. Sure the graphics are basic, but the gameplay is a great mix of strategic deployment and tactical battle. You get to command armies and individual characters against an enemy with greater number of forces in a very large fantasy map. Each game takes maybe 3 or 4 hours once you get the hang of it. It does require a little patience learning the map and getting decimated a few times but I soon learned where best to deploy Luxor's forces and I really enjoyed winning with different strategies - getting Morleth to steal the Ice Crown, sneaking Luxor's armies up the east side of the map and charge Doomdark's main citadel or just gathering all our forces and taking on Doomdark head on in our citadels while raiding him on the plains of Blood. I recommend reading the novel that accompanies the game as it's a good read and whets your appetite for the game. I have probably sunk a total of 40 hours of game time. Hope the sequel gets converted to iOS one day.highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Great

*2013-12-13, version 1.12*

Old-school, quite confusing, but awesome all the same

### 4/5 — Epic Fantasy!

*2013-12-08, version 1.12*

A fun game with a lot of atmosphere packed into a fairly simple set of mechanics. I think there are a few areas that could use some work. That said the game is well worth the money.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I can’t move the characters

*2024-03-11, version 2.0.8 (50)*

I can turn left and right and sometimes it will also move forward but the interface is not working. Such a shame as I love this game been playing it for 38 years

### 1/5 — You can’t move

*2024-02-05, version 2.0.6 (45)*

All you can do is look around. There’s no instructions on how to move, and no onscreen keys or buttons to do so. You are basically stuck rooted to the spot.
A shame as I enjoyed playing this game on my Spectrum in the 1980s.

### 1/5 — Lords of midnight

*2022-01-08, version 2.0 (31)*

Can’t move playrtbpoor game

### 1/5 — Won’t work

*2019-06-30, version 1.1.20*

Doesn’t work on my iPhone XR

### 1/5 — Doesn’t launch on iPhone X

*2018-05-11, version 1.1.20*

Great game while it worked. Then I upgraded to an iPhone X and it crashes immediately at launch.

### 1/5 — Tedious

*2017-02-27, version 1.12*

Boring old game that was OK thirty years ago... But time has moved on and this is too random and difficult to be enjoyable. Look elsewhere

### 1/5 — Really?

*2014-02-02, version 1.12*

This game has an incredible ability make me want to fall asleep. It's epic how stupid this game is.

### 1/5 — VERY inaccessible

*2014-01-11, version 1.12*

This is a remake of a game from 30 years ago, and it shows. It's very difficult to figure out. Only buy this if you're nostalgic for the original version.

### 1/5 — Awful

*2013-06-24, version 1.06*

This is a very difficult game to get started. It's complicated and I suspect the only way to enjoy it is to already have played it before and know what you have to do. Don't waste your money.

### 2/5 — Recently updated my phone and now I can’t play

*2019-12-20, version 1.1.20*

I recently got an X series iPhone come to find that I can no longer play this amazing game anymore. Please update so I can once again enjoy this fantastic product.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Takes me back!

*2024-10-31, version 2.0.8 (50)*

Absolutely thrilled to find this old 1980s brought back to life - it’s absolutely perfect and still just as much fun. Amazing to think how far ahead of its time the original was. Massive thanks to the developer for the personal time investment to succeed with this project - I can’t thank you enough. Highly recommended to those not familiar with the original too.

### 5/5 — Don’t make ‘em like they used to

*2024-08-17, version 2.0.8 (50)*

A gorgeous looking game, on my iPhone and especially on my 16” MacBook Pro. Deceptively simple, but very challenging. Fires the imagination like a good game should. UI is smooth, easy to use. The whole package is a fun, smart, aesthetically pleasing experience. Nicely done.

### 5/5 — Great game, great re-make

*2022-10-24, version 2.0.5 (44)*

Ahhh the memories on the ZX. This was something new!! Fantastic.

### 5/5 — Great to see this back

*2022-02-01, version 2.0 (31)*

Thank you very much for bringing this back, I loved this first time around and spent many hours of a misspent youth playing it, now I can while away some hours playing it on my phone - absolute class

### 5/5 — Amazing Game for iOS

*2021-12-27, version 2.0 (31)*

Ignore the old reviews that claim this game has issues on certain iPhones; it’s been updated and works flawlessly (using an iPhone 12 Pro) using the entire screen.

This is a well done tribute the the Original creator and is great for a nostalgia trip. If you’re not into classic games or text-heavy interfaces, then this won’t be for you. For everyone else, expect some rich storytelling.

### 5/5 — Roam Midnight, form allegiances, quest, do battle...

*2019-10-19, version 1.1.20*

A classic game in 1984, added to and entirely relevant to anyone who has never experienced the Land of Midnight before. This beautifully presented game sees you looking out from the eyes of the commanders and characters as you mass your armies and deploy your quest and immerse yourself in the titanic struggle against a ruthless, singleminded adversary, Doomdark.

Strategy and tactics are needed to endure the nail-biting episodes of war and subterfuge as you wander a believable land and back story. Chris has done a brilliant job in recreating the atmosphere and feel of the original and included a few features to smooth gameplay.

Once you enter midnight and look through Luxor's eyes, you will never look back and never be the same again.

### 5/5 — Best game ever made

*2017-06-15, version 1.1.20*

When released in the 80's this game was so far ahead of its time - a true work of genius back then. The updated version is very well made and captures the soul and feel of the original spectrum version and brings back great memories of playing this as a kid. Fantastic!

### 5/5 — The War of the Solstice has begun!!

*2017-06-15, version 1.1.20*

This is a great game. Very atmospheric and has elements of strategy and fantasy, with unique gameplay. I loved the original Spectrum version, and this iOS conversion is even better. So glad the developer has updated to 64 bit so I can keep playing it when iOS 11 arrives.

### 5/5 — Just brilliant

*2016-10-09, version 1.12*

The complete opposite to the commonplace quickplay style of so many apps. Here you'll find a complete world with a unique (ok, Tolkienesque-ish) atmosphere and engrossing gameplay. Once you understand the setup LOM offers a great gaming experience and fantastic blend of wargaming and exploration.

### 5/5 — After 30+ Years It's Still A Classic

*2016-10-01, version 1.12*

I first spent weeks and weeks on my Commodore 64 playing this game in numerous ways to try and get numerous endings. It was probably this game that I've played the most, along with Mercenary, and it never gets tired.

The iOS version is a fantastic port and a worthy and essential purchase. You can never play the same game twice and it never gets boring
