## What is The Michael Morcombe and David Stewart eGuide to the Birds of Australia LITE?

This is a LITE version of The Michael Morcombe eGuide to the Birds of Australia but is fully functional and includes ONLY 59 species, compared to 796 species in the full app. If you like the way this app works please check out the full version.

The foremost field guide to Australian birds is now available as a fully universal app on the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad with a comprehensive collection of bird calls.

Michael Morcombe’s Field Guide to Australian Birds has been called the most comprehensive field guide to Australian birds in the market today and now it is perfectly complimented by the eGuide which features:
iOS optimised controls – swipe to next or previous species, one-tap enlargement of an image (iPad) and rotate the device (landscape) to enlarge an image completely (and fit the width of the screen).
Over 300 hi-res bird images covering 59 bird species.
Most bird species have a detailed distribution map showing any subspecies that occur.
Detailed text descriptions of almost all bird species including songs and calls, measurements and breeding behaviour.
Over 170 carefully-selected and edited sound recordings. Many species are represented with multiple call examples showing the full range of vocalizations.
The ability to compare any two images, maps, or sounds, side by side on the screen. The ability to filter by geographic location, so that you see only the species likely to occur in your location, and to further reduce the possibilities to usual or vagrant species in the selected area.
A “Smart Search” that gives the ability to search by distinguishing features such as size, colour, physical features, habitat and exclude certain types of birds (eg. Passerines).
A basic personal species list that stores your sightings saved to the device* with the ability to email the list.
A comprehensive help and introduction section to help you if you get stuck or don’t understand how a certain feature works.

*Uninstalling/reinstalling the program will result in the loss of your list, it is recommended that you keep your own backup (master list) separate from the application.

We invite all users to share their comments and ideas on our forum at www.mydigitalearth.com

NB. This Application WILL ONLY work on an iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad running iOS V7.1 or higher NOT A NORMAL IPOD CLASSIC/NANO.

### 1/5 — Dont waste your time get the full version

*2023-10-02*

So limited is is useless, seach does not work for simple groups like ‘dove’. Get the full version which is a 4/5 stars

### 5/5 — Janine

*2023-04-07*

This app is fantastic. I can identify so many birds now. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Exporting from lists

*2023-03-26*

I paid for this app many years ago so have definitely got my money’s worth out it. Use it all the time and love it.

However recently I can’t export my bird lists as I used to be able to which is really really unhelpful as I recorded species as I used the coordinates to be able to map distribution and now I’m having to add coordinates manually into a csv. Can someone advise if this app is no longer being supported.

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2023-02-24*

Free version crashes when trying to open the menu.
Glad i haven’t wasted money on the paid app.
I would really like a functioning bird app

### 4/5 — Good could be better

*2022-07-21*

The app had some difficulties that I think you could fix but it is so cool and helpful

### 1/5 — Crashes on opening

*2020-11-13*

I wanted to check out the lite version before purchasing the full $30 version but given its 4 years old it probably shouldn’t be a surprise that it doesn’t work. It won’t even open.

### 1/5 — Full reference version needs more thought

*2018-12-02*

Bought the expensive full version but found that the version registered under my purchases was mislabelled as the LITE version. Unable to family share this expensive app with my wife and found that all attempts to do so resulted in only the useless Lite version being shared!

The search index was particularly poor so for example a search for all kingfishers in the top end failed to highlight the buff breasted paradise kingfisher as the search engine cannot cope with hyphenated words. Similarly the variety of bird calls failed to capture the commonest calls of many species. The illustrations exclude any photographs of birds and comprise only line drawings.

Despite numerous emails, the authors support team failed to resolve my issues with sharing the reference app. As an experienced birder, I cannot recommend this version and hope that this 2 year old app is shortly to be extensively revised.

### 5/5 — Very helpful app

*2018-11-05*

I love it, and paid the full price for it. I believe I got my monies worth. Thank you. Is it still being supported and updated?

### 5/5 — Brilliant work

*2018-04-19*

This app rocks.

### 1/5 — I was told this version was free...

*2017-07-28*

I read on the full version that this smaller version could be tried for free, so you could see if you liked the way the app felt. As such, I am quite unhappy to have been charged $7.99 for it....
