### 3/5 — Book purchase does get you access but non-intuitive

*2025-04-27*

So you create a digital account based on the book purchase. Then you end up and some third party digital magazine site, asking for the same information. If you don’t complete that second step (even though you already created a MilePost account), you can’t log into the app. Works fine if you do.

So it loses a star for that mess and loses another star for basically being a glorified PDF reader that doesn’t even work well. When zoomed in and moving around a page, it laps and has artifacts on screen.

### 1/5 — 2023 and Milepost Charges For This?

*2023-05-31*

Come on Milepost, I purchase your book then have to pay for a half-baked app that only works when I have internet service-IN ALASKA, REALLY? Please have your team step away from their desks and make something that really works and is helpful when traveling around Alaska WITHOUT INTERNET! I and many others would be willing to pay for something like that. ……until then Google or Apple Maps is more helpful, and they are free.

### 2/5 — No issues logging in

*2022-12-03, version 6.6.3*

Saw the reviews saying issues logging in. I had already set up the account and was logged in on the browser when I downloaded app. I clicked the 2022 version and it downloaded right away. No issues.
I think the idea of downloading a separate app rather than making it available through Apple Books or Amazon Kindle is dumb. I hate that its done this way. My 2 star rating is really a rebuke of this process. However the app does work.

### 1/5 — You took something perfect and killed it.

*2022-07-15*

* Requesting a full refund*

Having driven up and down the AlCan 8 times in the past 30 years, it's been a staple to use the milepost, a hi-liter, and then reach out to the locals along the way for updates.

Why in God's name would you build an app that maps the wilderness of Canada and Alaska that NEEDS to use the internet?

Your app was replaced by a free map at the Stewart cutoff from a very friendly local.

I TRIPLE DOG DARE you to travel to Alaska using your own ap.

### 1/5 — It's 2022 and still can't log in

*2022-06-17*

Same as another reviewer, I bought the book and was anticipating the convenience of using the app. The web-based version of the book is not worthwhile. But even though I can log in to view that no problem, I can't log into the app, so that's a disappointment.

### 1/5 — Terrible. Do not buy

*2021-05-25*

The Milepost is a great resource but they should be ashamed of this product. Very expensive and does not download. Completely worthless. I am so angry and want my money back.

### 1/5 — Wants to charge me full price

*2021-05-22, version 6.6.3*

Does ask for my code

### 1/5 — Scam Alert! Please read before giving them any money!

*2019-12-27, version 6.6.3*

I installed the app and purchased the 2019 edition as an in app purchase for $24.99. As of one week, I’ve never been able to view a single page of it because when I try to view it, a pop up appears telling me I need to purchase it (again). I actually tried to purchase it again and another pop up appears telling me I already purchased it. I’m then given the option to view/download it and when I click it, a pop up appears again telling me I need to purchase it. It’s been this cycle repeatedly.
Now the shady stuff...they have a fake number listed so you can’t actually contact them to talk to someone (907-272-6070). They have two locations...I went to both and there’s nobody there for you to talk to at either one even though I went 4 times at different times of the day each time on weekdays between 9an-4pm...I was able to find a 1-800 number which I called and I was put on hold for a very long time after I explained my problem...they then told me they were transferring me to someone named Dave who would help me. After another long hold...I was connected to a voicemail asking me to leave my number and they’d call me back. Needless to say...that didn’t happen. Please read other reviews before you make the same mistake I did.

### 1/5 — Can’t log in

*2019-05-13*

Bought the book and wanted the app for easy access on the drive. Logged in to the website and created an account which led me to the app. Downloaded the app and now can’t log in with my information making the app useless since I’m not paying a second time.

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2019-01-23, version 5.0.8*

Its a piece of garbage. Don’t buy. Unable to load. Once loaded on newer device, unable to restore purchases. Waste of money.

### 2/5 — Froze up on iPad

*2018-09-13, version 5.0.8*

Hard to read backwards on the way back to Dawson Creek and froze up on my new ipad.

### 1/5 — Worse than Worthless

*2018-08-10, version 5.0.8*

Been trying for hours to download the book without success. I have never been unable to at least get an app to function to some degree. This is worse than worthless, it’s wasted my time and my data while on travel. Complete waste of time, does not work. Should be zero stars.

### 1/5 — Complete rip off

*2017-10-24, version 5.0.8*

Sitting here in Fort Nelson, paid almost 28 bucks, app will not work AT ALL

TOTAL PIECE OF CRAP

GETTING REFUND FROM APPLE

### 1/5 — Don't waste your money!!!

*2017-06-23, version 5.0.8*

Be ready to go though an extensive verification process!!! I have signed up for encrypted government email services that much easier. Finally I got my username and password and they didn't work. So the username and password they just gave me in an email didn't work. Don't waste your time or money!!!!

### 1/5 — Useless

*2017-03-28, version 5.0.8*

We thought having the e-version would be easier than pulling out the big hardcopy version. However to use the app one must have Wi-Fi or cell service, neither of which are readily available when driving to and from Alaska. Thus this app is virtually useless.

### 1/5 — Scam, Highway Robbery

*2016-11-15, version 5.0.8*

We purchased the 2014 Milepost back in 2014. Had it on my iPad 4 months ago but today when I was going to check something out, it had disappeared. Paid $25.00 for an app and they take it back ???? Apps should last forever unless you remove them especially a book. NOT a Happy Camper.

### 2/5 — Not Much

*2016-08-05, version 5.0.8*

The paper version contains so much data, that it quickly becomes mental overload, and pages start falling out. Decided to try the app, figured it at least wouldn't fall apart like the book. Kinda works on the iPad, but won't download to my phone, telling me I haven't purchased it. Doubt if it would be much use on the iPhone anyway, printed to small, to much data on a page. NOTE I use the word "data" instead of "information".

### 1/5 — Useless

*2016-06-03, version 5.0.8*

Won't download 2016 version at all. Not even useable.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not Worth the Effort

*2026-07-29*

I have access to the digital Milepost online through my purchase of a printed copy, but I never could get it to load in the App without making another purchase, because the app would never recognize my login. Purchasing it again for the app didn’t make sense, especially since it works only when you have cell service while traveling on the road. My solution was to download a PDF version to my iPad and that works great. So, don’t bother with the app.

### 1/5 — Does not sync with paper purchase

*2026-06-15*

I was hoping to use the app as I traveled the Alaska Highway in conjunction with the paperback version I purchased. I could not login using the digital login I had created with the online version. Instead the app asked me to purchase the rights to use the app. Not good!!

### 1/5 — Unable to download or login

*2026-04-20, version 7.2.1*

Downloaded the app and attempted to use the digital code from my hardcopy Milepost. I could create the account and the website accepted the digital code as valid with no problem, but after that I was caught up in an endless cycle of having to reenter my password. The printed version is great but I have yet to find an app or any other electronic access that works. I’d buy a pure electronic version but I think I’d be stuck with the same problem of “I paid, now what?” with no access.

### 1/5 — Failed to login

*2026-04-10*

Even though I have an account and use the correct credentials I get the error message “failed to login” without further guidance….

### 1/5 — Very frustrating poorly, nearly impossible to login

*2026-01-12*

The app is so buggy you can log in , the direct website will work one day then the next day take you onto a completely different landing page and will not allow access. The book seems good, expensive consider the digital side is useless in its current state.

### 1/5 — Misleading advertising

*2024-10-25*

Can’t use the digital. Bought the book with the idea that will have access to the digital version, but apparently you have to pay again,. Your advertising implies digital version access when buy the book ,,!,,,

### 1/5 — This Milepost is not good anymore.

*2024-04-22*

Completely out of touch, a relic of the 1990,s.
Much better Free Apps out there. Don’t waste your money and time.
Use Google Offline Maps in Alaska, or Travel Books.

### 1/5 — Don’t wast your time.

*2024-04-08*

Just read the rest of the reviews. Can’t even log in to get started. Online login to the digital version does not work either. Stick with the printed book.

### 1/5 — Can’t even login / No support

*2023-12-31*

Login works fine for website, login does not work for app, cannot reset password. Emailed support - absolutely NO response. Don’t waste your time. The developers of this app have never been required to use it since it does not work.

### 1/5 — Free Access????

*2023-07-02, version 7.0.21*

Both on the cover of the paper edition 2023 Milepost and inside state FREE access to digital edition but when registering with the priority access code your redirected to PayPal. NOPE

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app

*2017-05-09, version 5.0.8*

Not convince on the negative reviews. I downloaded the app and the book with no problem and I am able to use it with out any internet connection. The detail on the app says you have to let it download without interruption otherwise you will need to have internet to use it. Just let download before you go thru the pages. Great book to have for travel planning

### 5/5 — Works fine

*2017-05-08*

Not sure about all of the negative reviews. I made my purchase, downloaded the book waiting until it was completely downloaded as stated in the app description. I then turned off wifi on my iPad. All is good. I can navigate and read the book. Much better than lugging a 700 page book on my motorcycle.

I do wish it had a text reading mode like most digital magazines. Still worth it.

### 5/5 — Wows

*2013-05-16, version 3.5.1*

There is so much information. This was a lifesaver for my family!

### 5/5 — The Rev. Dyana Orrin

*2013-05-13, version 3.5.1*

I arrived in Alaska in 1966. I have used the Mile Post since that time. I have personally driven the Alaska Highway 10 times. It truly is the bible of travel to, from, and within Alaska. My husband and I are avid campers. We have never been disappointed with The Mile Post.

### 5/5 — Perfect for travel.

*2013-02-01, version 3.1.0*

I purchased this digital copy of the 2012 edition late Jan. 2013. I hope it comes with a free upgrade to 2013. This digital edition has expandable maps and positive information on all routes and entertainment from getting out of WA through beautiful BC into Alaska points of interest and to your destination. Don't leave home without The Milepost.

### 5/5 — Milepost

*2012-07-11, version 3.0.0*

Good read. A must have for those traveling to the 49th state.
Lots of fun to read and plan with leading up to you ask trip.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2012-07-07*

Glad this finally arrived just in time for my trip

I have installed the new version and it seems to have corrected the bugs that existed in the first release. This app contains a lot of Great and Useful information. Hopefully the issues from the original version have been corrected and everyone that did not have a positive experience will give it another try. Dave with the Milepost has worked with me and answered every question I have ask and replied to every e-mail I have sent. Dave even sent me a printed copy. Both versions are very informative, however the electronic version is the one I will use ! Dave and Team, thanks for all the help, and a Great Job with this publication, I know this is a tremendous amount of work.

Thanks once again for all the assistance.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app!

*2012-07-07*

Consider this mini review positive as I have no reason to expand on all the wonderfully written positive reviews already mentioned, plus I'm lazy ;-)

I'm fortunate to have been given the opportunity to move to the "interior" of Alaska via a job transfer and have found this app to offer the best "all in one" source of information offered from any single source of information I've found for a newbie wanting to learn much of the in's and out's of the entire state.

Thanks for bringing such a fantastic resource to the iPad!!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2012-06-17, version 2.3.9*

We have driven the Alaska & Cassiar Highways several times and will do so again soon. We have always had the most current Milepost (print version) as our companion on these trips. This digital version is awesome and so much easier to use by the copilot and driver (when at a rest stop) then the print or PDF versions. Love it!

### 5/5 — Truly the bible of North Country travel!

*2012-05-19*

Takes awhile to download this 798 page travel guide, but once it has WOW! Has so much information. Can't imagine needing any other source for traveling the 14,000+ miles of roadways of western Canada and Alaska. I love all the links to the businesses and attractions throughout the pages. Great photos and wonderful maps make this travel guide and trip planner a delight to use.
