## Newest reviews (15 of 56)

### 4/5 — Old style, but works quite well!

*2024-06-14, version 4.6.11*

Super grateful for this app, and it works very well. Just kinda dated as far as style.

### 2/5 — Mostly useless for me

*2023-06-28, version 4.6.11*

I got this app for the classical station. Instead, I got daily headlines from liberal journalists complaining about anything and everything. The classical station isn’t that great, I’d rather keep listening to KUSC.

### 4/5 — Echoing others

*2022-09-07, version 4.5.57*

This is a delightful app, and it allows me to easily access WNXP; however, the connection does sometimes drop, which can be a bummer! Once they fix that, it’ll be perfection.

### 4/5 — WPLN/NPR on the Go!

*2021-10-01, version 4.5.25*

I love that I can listen to NPR, and most enjoyably, my local station when I’m on the go. No more lost signal on the radio and forced to find another station…Even worse is when there is no local station as when I go to work. (Live in Nashville, but I work in Columbia.) As others have noted, there are however drops in the app’s signal, which forces one to hit “play” in order to get it started back up. If not for this, I’d give it 5 stars.

### 4/5 — I love it!

*2021-07-27, version 4.5.14*

I wish it was easier to listen to some of the other non-local programs like Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me, but otherwise I love the programming and the app is very well done.

### 4/5 — Easy listening, with the occasional glitch

*2021-02-09, version 4.4.69*

Love the easy format for listening in on my phone. My only complaint is the spontaneous connection loss, as some other reviewers have eluded to.

### 2/5 — Buggy

*2020-07-28, version 4.4.58*

Worked well for the first few years, but now it’s extremely buggy. I reported the issues twice, only to be told to do all the things I had already done to fix it. They might as well have told me to turn it off and back on again. I don’t think they care.

### 4/5 — Enjoy listening to 91.1 Classical

*2020-02-17, version 4.4.32*

I love being able to listen to music on my phone. The only reason I don’t give this app 5 stars is because I would like to see a playlist, in addition to the song currently playing. I do like that the current song info is displayed.

### 2/5 — Finicky Connection

*2019-09-19, version 4.4.17*

Sometimes it works great, other times it loads and loads and then when playback begins it will jump back 10 seconds and behave erratically. I’ve switched over to the NPR One app due to its rock solid performance and inclusion of WPLN coverage.

### 4/5 — Good but needs better buffering...

*2019-05-13, version 3.9.10*

This is a handy app but if you pause content that you’re streaming and restart it a couple minutes later it will often start playing from your paused point in the content but after a minute or two glitches back to real time. Also the random station ID ads in the middle of programming is frustrating...Despite the shortcomings the app is still more convenient than listening via the internet or radio but YMMV.

### 5/5 — Use It Daily

*2019-01-19, version 3.9.10*

I use this app almost every day either working out or doing other things. I mostly listen to the live shows.

### 4/5 — Bad Timing

*2018-11-10, version 3.9.10*

Love everything about NPR, and appreciated the app since i can’t pick it up two hours away in Crossville, but EVERY.SINGLE.DAY you interrupt stories with a “streaming sponsored by” message! I deleted the app and switched to WKUT Austin, which seems to know that these announcements should actually fit BETWEEN stories. My only adjustment is not getting excited when they announce 100+ degree temps...

### 5/5 — Great programming

*2018-10-02, version 3.9.10*

!

### 5/5 — Handy and Functional

*2018-08-02, version 3.9.10*

Does what I expect it to. It also provides access to all programming.

### 4/5 — Connection Connection Connection

*2018-07-07, version 3.8.45*

My biggest and only real complaint about the app is the random loss of connection. I’ll be deep into a story, and WALL!! Just stops. About 15% of the time, it re-establishes the connection, but that’s not great performance. I have to navigate to the app and push PLAY again. Why?? Luckily this only happens about once a week. Too much but bearable.

A recent update DID cause me to have to delete and reload the app. I guess it wasn’t thoroughly tested.

But the app is super easy to use, beautifully organized, excellent access to everything thru the GUI. And the content?? WPLN ROCKS!!! There’s no NPR superstation where I live now, so I still listen to WPLN. Still sustaining. Gotta be willing to pay for the good stuff!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Glitchy, consistently

*2021-10-05, version 4.5.25*

I love NPT but even this latest version on the app is consistently glitchy. Station players will not launch even after repeated closing and relaunch or once playing, station streaming repeats a four second loop of the first audio feed played. Can’t wait for the next update to fix these bugs.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2019-11-24, version 4.4.28*

The stream constantly breaks down, requiring the user to restart the app. Incredibly frustrating!

### 1/5 — Consistently Fails

*2019-10-17, version 4.4.24*

Every time I use this app, it stalls. Not every 5th time or once a week. It’s every single time. The only way I can get it to stream WPLN for longer than 30 seconds is to go to the App Store and open it from there. Arrrrrrghhh! It’s inconvenient and feels harmful, since WPLN and NPR have informative and balanced news programs.

### 1/5 — Expect it to stop and reconnect several times per hour

*2019-07-02, version 4.4.10*

I love WPLN. That said, even listening on the app in the house it drops several times per hour; always restarting with ads of businesses funding WPLN.

I’ve been using the app for years and this problem has been going on the last six months. It’s also why my new default apps are for Minnesota Public Radio (KNOW), Austin, TX (KUT), and BBC radio.

### 1/5 — Wonky poor performance and layout

*2019-01-02, version 3.9.10*

Loses stream all the time. Can't select programming and the local news and features are stale. Wish I had my old NPR news app available. Very disappointed in WPLN over this.

### 1/5 — Bring back the app that works

*2017-09-15, version 3.8.16*

This new app has major bugs. Please revisit asap so those us who listen on our smart phones can listen.

### 1/5 — Hate the new app

*2017-08-22, version 3.8.16*

Now difficult to toggle between streams without hitting individual segments I don't want. Need my glasses now to use. Awful. L

### 1/5 — Not configured correctly

*2017-02-22, version 2.1*

It often crashes and tells me it is not configured correctly. It stops streaming every 5-10 minutes and I have to unlock my phone and hit play again. The lock screen controls do not work. Someone please fix these issues!

### 1/5 — Incompatible

*2014-03-07, version 2.1*

Does not run on current iOs 7.0.6

### 1/5 — iPhone 5

*2013-04-16, version 2.0*

This doesn't work on my phone. It starts and then stops completely.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Eric

*2025-07-28, version 6.2.30*

I love it

### 5/5 — Great app for me to use on the road

*2024-10-01, version 6.2.14*

I love WNXP and when I travel, I can use the app to listen to the station.

### 5/5 — Love having WPLN on my phone

*2022-09-01, version 4.5.57*

Great for when I’m gardening, etc. and not near a “regular” radio!

### 5/5 — A most useful app.

*2021-12-26, version 4.5.25*

I am a long time listener to WPLN. Now that I have the app on my phone I can listen to the 4 WPLN options when I am away from my home radio or my car. I love it.

### 5/5 — Easy and Dependable

*2021-09-16, version 4.5.23*

When we first moved to Nashville from Seattle in 2018 we were excited to find WPLN! We left our radio behind and we stream now at home - the App or online streaming (not sure there was an App) was a little clunky in 2018 and early 2019 but the App has improved SO much and is fabulous!! We use it to listen all day long!

### 5/5 — Listening to Nashville Classical

*2021-08-23, version 4.5.14*

Since this is the now only way to listen to classical music at home without utilizing a CD player, the app is a god send. I’ve had connectivity issues, but they seem to be few and random.

### 5/5 — Tremendous

*2021-01-25, version 4.4.69*

Tremendous

### 5/5 — Love being able to find shows and to listen live!

*2020-07-02, version 4.4.58*

New to the area, but having a great NPR station makes it feel more like home already

### 5/5 — Love npr

*2019-09-18, version 4.4.17*

Yay

### 5/5 — Total improvement on the old app

*2019-04-01, version 3.9.10*

Works like a dream. I heart Nashville Public Radio.
