I was sent to this app by the WhenToPlugIn app, which has now shut down. Unfortunately this app does not replace it, since it doesn’t show the next best times to use electricity based on regional predictions or current data - only national.

But please check the records are updated correctly? Solar records is from’23. Grid data suggests solar output exceeded that level multiple times in March ‘25.

I used to love this app. Still do; in principle. But the latest colour change makes it very hard, at a glance, to see which energy source is which. Please change it back. Or at least make the colours more discernible. Thank you.

Impossible to read!   Since the recent update it’s even more difficult or impossible to read the small text - the colours are also irrelevant.  Please make it better than before, not worse!

I get that you are using corporate colours, but it is really hard to differentiate the gas from wind etc. please change the colours to something more logical and differentiated.

I use this App to judge the best time to use electricity and also charge my Hybrid car for minimum environmental impact.
Since the latest App update they have made it incredibly difficult to discern which source of Electricity is from what source as the colours chosen are completely illogical. Light purple for Gas, Dark purple for Wind!? So is wind more polluting that Gas? That’s what the colours say to me! Imports are Blue, water isn’t!? Solar is dark blue? Why not yellow or orange? Make the colours represent either reality or their Eco impact. Black for Biomass, Brown for Gas, blue for water, green for wind, yellow for solar, Orange or Purple for imports etc. I shouldn’t have to decode the App before I use it to decide if it is a good time to use green electricity. Help us help you!
What I would really like to see is the daily/weekly/monthly running totals for each kind of electricity production technique with a running total for the CO2 produced to generate the electricity.
I want to be able to see and compare how much each individual type (wind/solar/water/nuclear/gas etc) has produced and what CO2 it has cost us. Ideally by country area but defo in total per country. Live data on this would be excellent as well. A display of total electricity demand Vs system provided would be an interesting readout.

As part of the recent rebrand they have changed the colours on the energy mix pie chart which makes it really hard to distinguish between the colours. Please go back to the old colours. I can barely see the difference between Nuclear and gas.

I understand new branding needs to apply but no to the colour code for energy mix or carbon scale!

Different shades of purple make no sense and currently the only green energy source is biomass so misleading.

Also the app support link doesn’t work currently.

The latest update has new colours but sadly for people who are colourblind, this is a big step backwards as the new colours are very hard to distinguish.

Colour palette somewhat better now thanks BUT what happened to water as a source ?  I never see any hydro on the grid anywhere using this app.  Surely that can’t be right ?!

I can imagine the NESO executives’ hearts sinking when they saw the no doubt expensive redesign of this app, which takes a simple, pleasing thing and makes it worse for no good reason. And I can imagine them thinking: ‘We’re too busy to object to this, it doesn’t matter.’ Why these colours? Why is the only green colour biomass, the most dubious of all ‘renewable’ sources? Did Drax design this? Why is wind almost the colour of coal, and almost impossible on a phone to distinguish from nuclear, which is also a gloomy colour? Why are wind and gas two shades of purple? I don’t get it. Nutty.

Nuclear is black
Wind is almost black with tad of purple 
Gas is purple 
Import is light blue
Biomass light green
Water is light purple
Solar is petrol blue 

Just below you have carbon impact A with green, E with black

Makes so much sense /s

How to make an app useless is 10sec 

However pushed this design should take the door. 

Can we have them from green to purple based on how green it is???

The update to this app has made it unreadable.

You’ve gone from bright colour for each energy source and thick wedge of colour in the circle. Too the top 3 energy production methods almost all the same colour and the circle now has a thin line.

You’ve ruined this useful app.

Update to the App (from the beautifully coloured NGESO app) to comply with NESO brand guidelines is a disaster. 

It’s really hard to tell the muddy colours apart. The darkest dirtiest colours are applied to the cleanest electricity sources.

Please revert the colours to the ones previously used - this way the data visualisations will be useable again.

Who in their right mind came up with the rubbish new colour system. Biomes shows as a bright green and coal and wind both very similar dark colours. I suggest your interface design person is asked to find new employment

Egads! What have you done to the colour scheme. It’s just weird now, and difficult to read.
It’s not that hard:
Solar - yellow 🌞
Water - blue 💧
Biomass - brown 🪵 
etc.

The app needs updating to show when the grid is rewarding customers to reduce load on the grid. It doesn’t currently show this so sadly is becoming less useful

Only minor criticism (easy fix) is the dashboard text for the percentage of zero carbon is the same colour (purple) as the display for the gas consumed… always makes me think they are linked at first glance. 

That aside, great app.

Just got an EV and wanted to know where the power came from. In Southern Scotland which is lowest in UK thanks to low carbon, high reliability nuclear. Pity we are not building more.

Great app but it’s hard/impossoble to read the legend for the graph when written in the same colours (yellow, green on the white background). Please write the percentages and names in black.

The app is useful to see the current carbon intensity across the country and also specifically in the region that you are in. I like the intensity forecast but it only displays the national average. What we really need is the carbon intensity forecast for each specific region. Then I can plan ahead and see when the cleanest time to use the grid is in my region. It’s almost there, just add regional forecasts please.

I love this app, check it regularly to try and work out the best time to set home appliances to run. 
I’d like to see region-specific best time to use, rather than just national. Although maybe it doesn’t matter as demand anywhere on the grid has an impact?

I use this App to judge the best time to use electricity and also charge my Hybrid car for minimum environmental impact. I have a 100% renewable tariff and can see where the grid is getting its energy from.
I like the energy predictions and also the current energy mix display. The A-E rating is fairly irrelevant, what would be better is if they equated the levels to CO2 output.
What I would really like to see is the daily/weekly/monthly running totals for each kind of electricity production technique with a running total for the CO2 produced to generate the electricity.
I want to be able to see and compare how much each individual type (wind/solar/water/nuclear/coal/gas etc) has produced and what CO2 it has cost us. Ideally by country area but defo in total per country. Live data on this would be excellent as well. A display of total electricity demand Vs system provided would be an interesting readout.
I think more and more people are going to take interest in this App as the Environmental issues continue to be unresolved.
