The app is good but beware the subscription free gift (whether book or passport cover) never arrives ### 4/5 — Great, independent writing *2025-05-13* This is a refreshing look at events closer to home, so a less US focused bias … whilst still keeping things relevant. Interesting, entertaining and informative. Recommend. ### 3/5 — Good content, not so good app *2025-02-02* Loving the content but the app doesn’t feel very slick. I don’t need to see the New European animation every time I switch back to the app A QOL improvement would be if there was some way to mark which articles I had read already. ### 3/5 — Content great, app ok *2025-01-20* The app can be quite buggy still and one particularly annoying feature is that you have to watch the “splash screen” animation every time you open the app even if the app is already open and you are just switching in and out of it. The animation is about 6s long which is tedious on the 1,000’s time and it also doesn’t obey dark mode so is blindingly bright if you are opening at night. ### 2/5 — Font sizing *2024-08-05, version 4.4* Can’t change font size. Can’t read it without spectacles. The app is good but beware the subscription free gift (whether book or passport cover) never arrives ### 5/5 — The Best Newspaper… *2023-11-17* TNE has brilliant journalism, incisive analysis and a lucid often witty style which never trivialises the gravity of the issues facing Britain today. In a world of “alternative facts”, distortions of the truth and, indeed, outright lies, it is a beacon of truth and hope. I look forward to it landing in my Inbox every Wednesday. ### 5/5 — Just awesome *2023-11-17* My go-to read everyday for cutting-edge hard hitting forward thinking journalism with cosmopolitan flair a cross of Platini/Cantona perhaps ### 2/5 — Poor app. *2023-11-15* This app constantly has to be deleted and re uploaded and sign in process repeated. Not a major hassle but still ridiculous that it doesn’t recognise if a user is already a subscriber. ### 3/5 — Zoom capability *2022-12-29* Reading on iPad and I’d like to make the text size bigger or Use the spreading gesture to enlarge. I don’t think this is controllable via iOS - I think the app has to allow it somehow. Can you enable it ? ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Need a magnifying glass *2025-07-30* It is impossible to use the Mac’s zoom facility to make the text bigger and app does not provide its own Zoom function. The default is tiny. Unreadable for my aging eyes. Needs sorting ### 1/5 — NO WAY TO CANCEL IN APP *2025-07-24* There is no way to cancel my subscription that is obvious. This seems to be deliberate. I sent an email and got referred to another email address. This is lousy service. ### 1/5 — Cannot update *2024-11-07, version 4.4* So now I cannot use this app any more because my device does not support iOS15. Was that really necessary? Goodbye. ### 1/5 — Shoot the Messenger *2023-11-03* The content of TNE is excellent. However,,,,,,, the app is not. For the second year running, even though I have an auto subscription renewal, I have had to reset a password. The reset function does not work so I cannot access the content I HAVE PAID FOR. Another example of untested software with developers not considering customers. Get a grip of them and put customers first. ### 1/5 — Simply does not work on iPad mini *2021-09-05* The app does not let me login. The login page returns every time I agree to use .io. The only way I can now read my editions is to go via TNE home page. The previous app was flaky but at least most of the time worked (sort of ...). Try testing it out of a wide variety of devices before deleting the previous app. **Developer response:** Good afternoon, I am sorry to hear that you are having issues logging in to the new app, could I ask you to email subshelp@tnepublishing.com with more information and we will look into this for you. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2021-08-10* I subscribed through the app itself but cannot download any issues. The app just keeps prompting for a login even though I subscribed through the app, so it already knows my login. Clicking the Restore Subscriptions button does nothing. No response from support email address after two tries. Not impressed. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2020-11-03, version 3.1.4* Downloaded app, paid subscription, app crashes every time I try to download the content. Real shame ### 1/5 — Can’t read it! *2020-09-02, version 3.1.4* I bought a single issue but the app is broken and won’t let me download or read it. Contacted support but they are unhelpful. ### 1/5 — Paid But No Download *2020-06-26, version 3.1.4* Three times in the last two months I have attempted to buy a one-off issue. Error message reads ‘PSURLConnection Error 500’ with no download, but I’m still charged each time. No way of logging into app as no account created for a one-off buy. Great paper, totally frustrating app with poor UI. ### 1/5 — Paid for paper, can’t get access *2020-06-23, version 3.1.4* I paid for my 3 month subscription, initially accessed the papers ok but have since been having problems as the app often (but not always) fails to recognise the subscription, blocking my access. The coverage of feminist thinking is particularly important. ### 5/5 — Trustworthy *2026-08-05* I have subscribed to TNW since it started as The New European. It is my preferred source for reliable news commentary and a soupçon of culture. A pleasure to read ### 5/5 — TNE subscription *2025-04-23* The New European is a terrific newspaper, with a host of articulate journalists and a broad and varied approach to European culture and affairs. I read it from cover to cover every week. ### 5/5 — Top quality opinion pieces *2025-03-01, version 4.6* As a subscriber of the physical weekly newspaper and online version from the very beginning (2016-17) I can state that TNE is on par with The Economist , my other favourite newspaper in the UK. TNE is miles ahead of many other publications: the calibre of its opinion pieces is unparalleled. Mason, Campbell, Koch, etc etc . Will Self’s last page column is epic. ### 5/5 — Adding to my knowledge every week *2024-08-09* The New European being delivered every Wednesday is a highlight of my week. Mandrake and Alistair Campbell, Great Europeans (still waiting for Jean Pierre Melville), Bonnie Greer, Tanit Koch, Patience Wheatcroft, Paul Mason and Matthew d’Ancona and the online cryptic crossword puzzle.
