### 2/5 — Can’t use it

*2026-08-16, version 11.3.8*

I used to like this app a lot, but I’m no longer able to sign in. This isn’t user error. I assumed it was actually a bug that someone would get around to eventually, but the automated Condé Nast sign in link genuinely doesn’t work, so… I’ll just have to delete the app. And potentially reconsider my subscription, since I can’t access this content on the go.

### 4/5 — Love the content, hate the AI “voice”

*2026-08-04, version 11.3.8*

I left Apple News and subscribed to this app because I love the wide variety of content (and the games, too!). But one thing I can’t get over is how the articles are narrated by an AI “voice.” It was really jarring to go from listening to human narrated articles on Apple News to AI narration on The New Yorker (honestly, still can’t believe it’s not the other way around). Please *Please* consider changing this - I know it’s probably cheaper and easier to use it, but it leaves an “ick” on these great human produced articles.

### 3/5 — Audio issues

*2026-07-31, version 11.3.7*

Please fix the audio. It is so very glitchy !!!! Half the time it just refuses to start. Especially bad for downloaded articles. Very frustrating

### 3/5 — Ai voices are so bad

*2026-07-24, version 11.3.7*

We hate the AI voice narrators. Why?? Pay narrators.

### 3/5 — Search is suboptimal

*2026-07-24, version 11.3.7*

The New Yorker responded to my app review! My complaint: I can’t find older articles I’d like to read using search. They agreed it is important and have shared this with the team.

### 2/5 — The New Yorker deserves better

*2026-07-17, version 11.3.7*

The NYer is a great magazine but this is a pretty subpar app. To give just one example, there is no way to search by an author name and find everything they’ve ever written for the magazine. What is the point of having such a vast digital archive (a big selling point they make everywhere) when you don’t make it super accessible and have a great search function? And why show the same suggested articles for literally everything I read? Just fix your ranking and recommendations and make some actually intuitive navigation. Overall, it functions, but I feel like anyone these days could vibe code a better experience. They need to hire a new PM/eng team.

### 2/5 — good luck trying to use it off-line

*2026-07-14, version 11.3.7*

Very frustrating app. Constantly asking you to sign in again, which you can’t do if offline ie on subway. Constantly updating and won’t work if you’re off-line. Every other magazine app works better than this one. Very much dislike the idiotic jumping graphics which interrupt attempting to read an article.

### 3/5 — Search is suboptimal

*2026-07-11, version 11.3.6*

I can’t find older articles I’d like to read using search. I really want to be able to do that.

### 1/5 — Online Service Stinks

*2026-07-09, version 11.3.6*

I've been having problems logging in using my still valid subscription for over at least two weeks now and their support staff is either unable or unwilling to fix my issue. I keep getting asked to renew my subscription and the link to reset my password has disappeared.

### 1/5 — Why is the app so horrible

*2026-07-08, version 11.3.6*

I get suggested New Yorker adds for stories I want to read and then when I click it not only will it never link to the app but when I sign in I’m taking to the New Yorker Home Screen and it’s impossible to find the story. When I search the title of the piece in the app it never comes up. Please just make the search bar work. It makes me want to cancel my subscription every time it happens but I love the reporting

### 1/5 — The worst search

*2026-07-08, version 11.3.6*

I love New Yorker almost as much as I hate their app. The search is unusable, you can’t find anything in it. Get a UX designer.

### 2/5 — Please improve

*2026-07-06, version 11.3.6*

The best journalism is let down by an app that frequently crashes, logs me out & keeps telling me I don’t have an active subscription so I can’t use it and have to go via the clunkier web page instead. PLEASE fix.

### 3/5 — Search doesn’t work

*2026-07-06, version 11.3.6*

There’s a lot that I love about this app, but the search function is totally broken and has been for some time. There’s no way to, for example, find a review of a major film that came out three years ago, or a profile of a public figure. Even when I type in the exact title and author of an article, I get a million more recent articles, all irrelevant, because they contain one or two of the words I just searched. Using quotation marks doesn’t help. It’s infuriating and entirely fixable if they cared to fix it.

### 2/5 — App is awful

*2026-07-02, version 11.3.6*

I have subscribed for decades. The app is awful. Don’t use it. Find another way to read it digitally.

### 3/5 — Crashes and keyboard doesn’t fit

*2026-07-01, version 11.3.6*

Good content but the app crashes a lot.

Also when playing the crossword, the keyboard is so close to the edge of the phone screen that it makes it hard to type.

### 4/5 — Search needs fixing

*2026-06-29, version 11.3.6*

I’ve been a subscriber for a few years now, and I’ve generally had a good experience with the app with one exception: the search function is completely broken. It’s basically impossible to find a specific article, even if I’m searching the exact title. It’s frustrating.

### 1/5 — Doesnt work

*2026-06-27, version 11.3.6*

The app does not work plain and simple. I canceled my subscription.

### 3/5 — AI summaries are unwelcome

*2026-06-24, version 11.3.6*

I’ve been reading the New Yorker since I was a kid, having had some kind of subscription since the 90s. Now, as a busy adult, I appreciate the ability to read it online. The app is, generally, fine. It’s not flashy, but it reliably saves my place in articles I read and has dark mode. However, I just noticed that it has added AI summaries to some stories, and that sucks. The New Yorker is one of the places where I feel reasonably sure that what I’m reading was written by humans. Seeing begin to erode is sad and maddening. Please at least allow us to turn off AI related features.

### 1/5 — Sign in process

*2026-06-23, version 11.3.6*

Constantly having to sign in and then having to troubleshoot the sign in process to boot is infuriating. Fix it!!

### 1/5 — Abysmally hard to use and just stupid. I can understand why Advance is losing money

*2026-06-20, version 11.3.6*

Constantly demands that you subscribe when you already have a subscription. Your active login hidden as “id.condenast.com”. I don’t expect to do forensic programming every time I click on an item on a third party site. A real pain and CN should do better.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2026-08-14, version 11.3.8*

I’m a digital subscriber. But the app refuses to open. The New Yorker help desk is equally useless. The website still works. The app, though, is garbage.

### 1/5 — Needs update

*2026-08-13, version 11.3.8*

Recently the app started crashing any time I try to open one of the “classic” articles I’ve saved.

### 1/5 — Worthless app

*2026-08-13, version 11.3.8*

It is virtually impossible to enter enough credentials to be allowed to read the magazine. I’m a hair away from cancelling a magazine I’ve subscribed to for 5 decades. FGD app.

### 1/5 — Crosswords

*2026-08-03, version 11.3.7*

I literally only have this for the crosswords and why is it that i can’t see what my partner is doing in the crosswords anymore?? what is the point of player mode if i can’t play with player

### 1/5 — doesnt work on ipad

*2026-08-01, version 11.3.7*

new content does not load

### 1/5 — Subscription scam

*2026-08-01*

They're just scammers.
I fell for an Instagram ad and bought a three-month trial for $7. I was supposed to get a tote bag as well, but it never arrived. Then, without any notification, they charged me $150, which is a very big amount of money for me and of course, it’s non-refundable.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review, @Afesome. The three-month subscription was a trial offer, and the renewal price is outlined in the subscription terms at the time of sign-up. A renewal reminder is also sent by email 35 days before the trial period ends. As for the tote bag, please email your subscription information to support@newyorker.com, and our team will be happy to look into it for you.

### 1/5 — Awful Log In Experience

*2026-07-20, version 11.3.7*

Impossible to log in; only works with browser not app

### 1/5 — App seems to exist to frustrate.

*2026-07-19, version 11.3.7*

Originally, the app was just to read the print edition of the New Yorker. It worked well. Fast, reliable, and a joy. Now the app is unstable, crashes frequently, loads content I have zero interest in immediately upon opening instead of allow allowing me to access what I want to access immediately. Does not work with multiple VPNs, and each update tries to hide the magazine itself. I just want to read the print edition of the magazine on my tablet.

Each update makes this app more difficult to use.

2026 Update: continues to be sluggish; have to wait for home screen to populate items i'll never read to have the privilege to make multiple taps to my magazines; forced to re-sign in all the time. Bring back the simple, reliable, print-magazine-only app. This one is a chore. Yuck.

### 1/5 — Condescending snobs

*2026-07-19, version 11.3.7*

I learned to read in English with The New Yorker. It was magical: as someone whose mother had to quit high school at 15 to help support her family in Buenos Aires, I was gifted old issues by my English teacher. After all these years, I somehow made it to grad school in New York and became a proud subscriber. Today, I sadly realized that people like me, who come from a country like Argentina, cannot get any respect from those who write and run this magazine. If we succeed, they assume we must be cheating. If we do something with heart, they call it dirty.

### 1/5 — Infuriatingly bad app

*2026-07-11, version 11.3.6*

The app is insultingly bad. I constantly get stuck in a loop of being prompted to log in and then it not recognizing that I have a valid subscription. I’ve contacted support before, they apologize, it works for a bit, and then the process starts again. I love the New Yorker, but this is ridiculous. Either use the desktop site or just cancel your subscription entirely, because the app is basically a non-option at this point.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The New Yorker app is EXCELLENT!!

*2026-06-15, version 11.3.6*

Thank you for the amazing work you do for all of us!!! With people like you, there’s still hope… ❤️

### 5/5 — Saves my place now

*2026-05-30, version 11.3.5*

I had been unhappy with the app before so I wanted to credit them for fixing the main problem—the app often didn’t save your place.

As for the magazine itself it’s the only reason I like having a phone as I generally read it cover to cover; it’s the media equivalent of the Clash. It’s the only magazine that matters.

### 5/5 — Very Long Time Reader

*2026-05-16, version 11.3.4*

My Subscription Has servived over 80 Years, It was of most value in a war zone. The availability of truth cannot be over valued. Good writing is often hard to find and this publication is a source of both.

### 5/5 — Essential

*2026-03-29, version 11.3.1*

The cover artwork is essential for my curiosity and at times humor.
The content is essential for my perspective of the world-the good, bad, and in-between.
Keep AI away from destroying this magazine.

### 5/5 — FRUSTRATED

*2026-03-20, version 11.3.0*

There is no access to TNY from the App. All the more frustrating when you are blocked (while you have been actively using the app already) by an overlay
compelling you to subscribe.
Which you have done many
years ago with AUTOMATIC RENEWAL. FIX IT SOON
Again there is no mechanism on the App to contact in any way
TNY. I should remember

### 5/5 — Problem resolved by reboot

*2026-03-05, version 11.2.6*

To update, in reply to your email- I rebooted my phone and now the app is working fine. Thanks for your concern. The New Yorker is the best magazine on earth and has been for about a hundred years.

### 5/5 — Love it, one suggestion

*2026-02-28, version 11.2.6*

Love the app and love my print subscription too. It would be great if the crosswords section would show me which ones I’ve completed. Hopefully this update is in the works - thank you!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-02-08, version 11.2.4*

would love a cute widget

### 5/5 — Dark Mode!

*2026-01-21, version 11.2.2*

Hooray! Now with dark mode!

### 5/5 — Outstanding!

*2026-01-08, version 11.2.2*

Phenomenal writing, terrific cultural range, fearless journalism. I’m a long-time subscriber and consider it essential reading.
