### 3/5 — Doesn't save where you left off

*2026-08-01, version 4.6.1*

Each time I close the app and re-open it I have to find where I left off :(

### 3/5 — Useful app but a bit flawed

*2026-01-13, version 4.5.2*

This is a useful app that basically works well and certainly helped me learn the Highway Code content, but it does have a bit of a problem where having done quite a lot of quick quizzes, it ended up always loading the same quiz over and over.
The other niggles is that when you review quiz answers and go back to the list of answers, it always goes to the top of the list and not the one you clicked on.

### 3/5 — Could be a little more interactive

*2025-10-07*

There’s a lot of reading
And few images
I think there should be more images or moving diagrams to show a visual to what’s being explained for those who are completely new to driving. I had to search online for video explanations of several examples offered on the app, especially around navigating roundabouts
I’ve bought the entire collection so I’ll be adding to this review as I progress through the app

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. Your experience is important to us. Please contact our tech team via feedback@williamslea.com we will be happy to take suggestions on how to improve our app. Many thanks, TSO

### 2/5 — Too many incorrect answers

*2025-03-20, version 4.3.2*

A good app, let down by incorrect answers, I have noted 3 already and have answered less than 25% of quiz.

### 3/5 — Do NOT Purchase

*2024-10-07, version 4.3.2*

The ‘Theory Test’ app contains everything this app has and much more. Do not waste your money!

### 4/5 — A bit buggy

*2024-06-03, version 4.2.2*

Every so often if won’t let me scroll. I have to wait until it works again

### 5/5 — Good

*2024-05-30*

I have used this application to study and practice my exam. I have not given exam yet but I’m very hopeful that I’ll be able to pass by studying and practising through this application.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your 5 star review! We're pleased to hear that you have enjoyed using our app! Good luck for your test! Best wishes, TSO

### 2/5 — Almost useless search facility

*2024-05-08, version 4.2.2*

As the title says search facility is almost useless.

### 5/5 — Amazing app!

*2024-03-25, version 4.1.0*

I 100% recommended!

### 5/5 — Very, very helpful.

*2024-03-22*

If your trying to study for your theory test, there is no better option to help you pass than this app.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the 5-star review! We're glad you enjoyed using our official DVSA app. Many thanks, TSO

### 3/5 — Not designed for visual learners or people with Learning Difficulties

*2024-02-25*

Whilst there are a lot of helpful things in this, considering they have been producing learning tools for driving for years I’m surprised they haven’t developed anything for people who have learning difficulties like myself. There could be an option to have a different coloured background but they could also incorporate images and/or videos of what they are describing.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We add all customer feedback to our development change log and review it as part of our update programme. If you’d like to give us any more information about your experience, please contact us on feedback@williamslea.com, we’d love to hear from you. Many thanks, TSO

### 3/5 — Search function

*2023-06-27, version 4.0.9*

The app is very nice. Has gotten better over the years but in a recent update the ability to search the Highway Code for keywords appears to have vanished and I don’t know why.

### 4/5 — Search option removed

*2023-04-09, version 4.0.9*

Fantastic app! Can’t believe they removed the search option. It was invaluable!!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bugs and broken links

*2026-06-11, version 4.5.2*

Extremely poor, poor layout, broken links to legislation, no way to flag issues. Not an app that will promote revision. I can't believe this is an 'official' app

### 1/5 — What an awful app

*2026-06-09, version 4.5.2*

I’ve now sat my theory test twice and there have been questions in the test that were not covered within this app. Not only that but on the app it was saying I was passing every test I was doing when actually there was many things that wasn’t include on this app.

### 1/5 — Not good

*2026-05-05, version 4.5.2*

Downloaded the app and learnt every question for months, hardly any of them came up on the actual test. Utter nonsense

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2025-12-01, version 4.5.2*

Been using this app (official DVSA highway code) for some years to keep upto date with highway code. Some weeks ago noticed that quick quiz when about 50% of total questions completed, the same questions repeated. Was advised to frustratingly delete quiz history which I did. Have now once again completed around 50% and problem still there.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2025-05-25, version 4.4.2*

Overall good, but when taking quizzes some questions are specific to certain classes of vehicle HGV etc, which is frustrating if you do not need to know those types of vehicle answers. Also some questions are ambiguous and wording varies from highway code(a word can make significant difference). I'm retired police advanced driver .

### 1/5 — Rubbish update

*2024-09-07, version 4.2.3*

Don’t now have the 4 options (‘Learn’; Search; Take a quiz and Know your Traffic signs) when I open the app. Only option now is to read the whole HC or do a quiz on the whole thing. Absolute rubbish. Can I have my money back please?

### 1/5 — Whoever created this app needs to go to rehab

*2024-06-12*

Hard drugs have is the only explanation for an app being this bad.

If you want to learn road markings, you have to scroll to that section, then find the sub section, then browse the images, then click on a link to go another section of the app entirely that explains the rules relevant to that marking, then you have to navigate manually back the contents, then back to road markings, then back to your subsection, then scroll back to where you were at in that subsection to look at the next one, only to repeat the insanity again.

W in the actual F is this supposed to be?

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. Your experience using our app is important to us. Please could I encourage you to contact our tech team via feedback@williamslea.com, who will be happy to take suggestions on how to improve our app. Many thanks, TSO

### 1/5 — Incompetence All Round

*2023-03-25, version 4.0.9*

Williams Lea, who somehow have come into ownership of TSO (the government publisher formerly known as HMSO), finally update The Official Highway Code app to include changes made to the code over 12 months ago. Incompetence.

The new version of the app is bug ridden. For example, many main menu items result in returning to whatever was the previous page rather than the subject intended (e.g. the 'Review' option). Incompetence.

Williams Lea have failed to include a search facility in the revised app. This is a staggeringly idiotic omission. Way beyond incompetence.

This company is clearly no more fit to be responsible for government publications than our current government is suitable for being responsible for national security and wellbeing.

### 1/5 — Abandoned

*2023-02-13, version 3.0.1*

Any plans to update this for 2023? Or even 2022...

### 1/5 — No 2022 updates, annoying ads

*2022-01-29, version 3.0.1*

This app does not yet include the 2022 updates to the Highway Code.

After every quiz it displays an advertisement for the Hazard Perception app, which get very annoying after a few quizzes.

As a 68 year young person I thought I’d update and refresh myself.

### 5/5 — Essential reading for road users

*2026-06-10*

Definitely required reading for ALL road users, particularly drivers and riders of motorised vehicles. Highly recommended.
