### 5/5 — Excellent

*2012-11-03, version 5.3*

I have read this magazine for years and now it is free and easy to get with this app or online. I have to admit that I do miss the paper copy, but this is a great app. It works well and have found it easy to use.

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2012-10-09*

Such generosity making so much info available in a wonderfully user friendly format for FREE - thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Muso_Sam's wife :)

### 5/5 — Great Format! Terrific Reads!

I'm so pleased to find all this content online. What encouraging articles!

### 5/5 — A Do Not Miss App

*2012-06-20, version 5.0*

What We Liked:

As always, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine includes practical encouragement, insights into learning styles, teaching approaches, curriculum reviews, advertisements (I actually love the ads – they’re a great way to find new resources), unit studies, and plenty of inspiration.

In all honesty – I liked the idea of a digital edition before, but the apps make it SO easy to actually read the magazine – reading from a computer screen is hard for me, but reading from my phone or on the iPad is easy, portable, and gets done! I also don’t lose my magazine as often when my children carry it off! And I really, really like getting a monthly dose of homeschooling encouragement for free! Now that the magazine is solely digital you’ll also find a stronger emphasis on integrating technology into your homeschool, including monthly articles on apps! If you’re a tech-savvy (or hoping to be) homeschooling parent or grandparent, then this is definitely the homeschooling magazine for you!

What We Didn’t Like:

This app does require WiFi to access the issues (this is pretty unavoidable though – I’m so glad to have our WiFi back!)

Overall:

The much-loved Old Schoolhouse Magazine is now available for free, in a handy, practical digital edition that is served up directly to the free app of your choice (available in several operating system platforms). This app has made it onto my ‘no-brainer’ list of apps to have loaded on my devices, it just makes sense to install this easy to navigate magazine that is always filled with helpful insights and encouragement for homeschooling parents.

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2012-03-16, version 5.0*

Spectacular. Wonderful. Such a blessing to be so richly encouraged along the way as I disciple my children at home for the glory of God. Relevant. Christ-exalting. God-honoring. Uplifting. Again, such a rich blessing. Lovely product.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2012-02-09, version 5.0*

Love having the magazine at my fingertips at all times.

### 5/5 — Not a fan of paperless, BUT...

*2012-02-07, version 5.0*

I love a hard copy in my hands. I would much rather hold a book or magazine and turn pages than read online. That being said, this is a great app! Very easy to use, and love that I can mark my page. And as a bonus, there are videos with some articles, and the links in ads work so I do not have to take the mag to a computer. And now it is a monthly magazine! All this and no increase in cost. Plus, I do not have to find room to store a bunch of paper copies, and it is easy to take it anywhere. I can even read it in bed while dh is sleeping! Thanks for getting this out so quickly. Just love it!

### 5/5 — Great app!!

*2012-02-03, version 5.0*

I enjoy this app! Seems like I never have enough time to sit and read the magazine, but with this app I can easily pick a story of interest to me wherever I am whenever I have time! Have enjoyed it alot!

### 5/5 — Great!

*2012-01-29, version 5.0*

I can't believe I'm reading a magazine and watching videos from it on my iPod. Amazing!

### 5/5 — Love the digital abilities

*2012-01-26, version 5.0*

This magazine has been a staple in my library for several years. I love the video interactions of the digital version.

### 5/5 — Old Schoolhouse Mag

Love this! Essential for homeschooling parents!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not thrilled…

*2023-02-11, version 53.2*

The TOS app was fantastic before the latest update. Open the app, and there were all of the previous issues from current to years’ past. This latest update leaves a lot to be desired though. I downloaded the app to be able to read and share articles from the magazine with ease. I have no desire to read the Homeschooling With Heart blog through the app, or go to Schoolhouse Teachers through it. If you want those to be apps, then great! Spend the money to have them developed into well-run apps. Don’t try to save money by combining everything into one app, because it doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — Ad-supported Christian dogma

*2014-09-28, version 8.0*

This magazine is jam packed with ads and Christian dogma on almost every page. The abundance of ads might be forgivable if the content was not so utterly religious in nature. Secularists will stay far away.

### 1/5 — Wish it worked

*2013-05-30, version 5.3*

I first downloaded this app a year ago. I could never get it to work. It wouldn't download a single issue. I saw it again and thought I would give it another try ...because it is a good magazine.

I have now spent three days trying to get it to work. I still can't own load a single issue. The app continually crashes, partially downloads and won't turn a page. I have delegated the app and reloaded it, I have shut down the iPad and restarted it. I would really like for this app to function, but it doesn't.

### 1/5 — Hard copy better

*2012-02-03, version 5.0*

Very disappointed that I cannot read the whole magazine offline. Most pages are not available offline. Cannot navigate. Not happy about this. I want to be able to read the magazine anywhere...not possible if you are offline.

### 2/5 — I want to love it, but it's frustrating

*2014-08-16, version 6.61*

Great magazine, great concept, great content, but this app is buggy and frustrating. You can only download one issue at a time and if for whatever reason you have to walk away in the middle of an article or issue it will not hold your place. You have to come back and figure out which issue, what article and re download. I was super excited about it, too. Please fix it!

### 2/5 — no more off-line reading

*2013-11-05, version 6.4.1*

As the title says..I can no longer read the downloaded magazines unless I am connected to the internet. Not good!

### 3/5 — Christian publication

*2012-09-09, version 5.0*

This is not mentioned on their website, app description, or magazine cover - this is a strongly Christian publication.

### 4/5 — Lost downloads with update

*2012-09-28, version 5.3*

I subscribed to this magazine for a few years before it went digital and have really enjoyed it.

I really like the off-line reading option.

FYI: With this update I lost the magazines I had already downloaded onto the iPad. Fortunately the bookmarks were saved so I didn't have to reconstruct them and I was on a wifi network when I first opened the app to read so re-downloading was easy. (this was the reason for losing a star. The content is great.)

### 4/5 — Yay! I love TOS!

*2012-02-01, version 5.0*

I am excited to see the new TOS app. Now I can take my favorite magazine everywhere - even places without wifi. It is easy to navigate. The high quality of the print version is still there, but now I can easily access more information through the links. I love it!

I have only one challenge: the wonderful audio blog posts are not accessible. Do you have plans to reformat them so we can access them with Apple products? I hope so, because the speakers I have heard on your online expos have been outstanding. I would love to listen to them every day.

Thanks again, TOS for your commitment to producing a high-quality, uplifting publication for home educators.

### 5/5 — Great inspiration on the Go!

*2019-05-12, version 47*

I have enjoyed the magazines for over 10 years. The app makes it convenient to access articles from anywhere. I really like the ability to go through not only current releases, but previous ones as well. The search and bookmark features are also helpful!

## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2019-05-09, version 47*

I love being able to read the magazine on the app! It’s smoother than trying to do it in my browser.

### 5/5 — Love the app, love the magazine

*2019-05-09, version 47*

TOS has been a help in my homeschool journey from even before I pulled my kids out of public school. I look forward to the Christian worldview articles, and exploring the ads for products I want to try with my kids. They live by their motto that has been stated on the cover since their very first magazine. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

### 5/5 — I love this app!

*2016-04-05, version 28*

It's awesome to have this wonderful magazine at your fingertips. This app works great, is visually clean and bright, the fonts and texts are a good size, and best of all, it's free! One of my favorite reads!!

### 5/5 — Encouraging homeschool tool

*2015-01-01, version 8.0*

I love this app. I used to subscribe to the magazine and now I can read the articles on my app. It's so convenient and easy to use. The articles are encouraging and uplifting. Thank you so much for providing this wonderful app for Christian homeschooling families.

### 5/5 — Everything you need for homeschool help in one place

*2014-10-02, version 8.0*

I find it comforting to be able to turn to this magazine for the answers I need to homeschooling issues and research. And I love the fact that it's a Christian community. I found them on Facebook originally and love the help readers get to questions posed concerning homeschooling or even the possibility of homeschooling.

### 5/5 — Highly recommended!

*2014-03-10, version 6.53*

This is such a great magazine! It's wonderful to be able to read wherever I'm at. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Great app!

### 5/5 — Encouraging
