### 4/5 — Cannot view after iPad reset

*2024-02-10, version 3.3*

Having had to reset my iPad, I opted to reinstall my apps individually, rather than use the backup, not wanting to reintroduce any fault on the system. This worked on every app except The Oldie.
I have now found that by apparently purchasing a subscription directly from The Oldie, it has, though, awoken my Apple subscription - something neither Apple nor The Oldie have been able to tell me! Hence the dropped star!

### 2/5 — Awful website

*2020-05-01, version 2.1.0*

I am a subscriber to The Oldie , I find the website is very hard navigate and I am constantly being asked to sign in again and email addresses are not recognised.
Very disappointed.

### 4/5 — Pitched at golden oldies

*2018-10-30, version 2.0.3*

For those of us interested in great eccentrics and those who have contributed to britishness all over the world.

### 2/5 — Not happy!

*2018-01-07, version 2.0.3*

I paid for a twelve month subscription but each month since it tells me there is a new issue available but asks for £2.99.

### 4/5 — The magazine is fine...

*2017-04-11, version 2.0.1*

It's the non-existent after sales service that bugs me. Don't even bother writing to them with a query - once they've got your money they're not the slightest bit interested in talking to you.

### 2/5 — New format not fully developed

*2015-08-28, version 1.0.0*

This app has suddenly appeared after the old one was scrapped and my subscription stopped. It's a pity they didn't tell subscribers when it was due to appear. The magazine looks better with this app. It's clearer and easier to read. But it may be me but I can't see see the index unless I close the app and start again. I can only swipe from page to page which is a nuisance if I want say to skip from article to another. Why not show the content at the bottom or the side?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Absolutely appalling app

*2022-04-06, version 2.1.0*

Whilst the content of the magazine is superb this app is a dismal failure
Sadly i shan’t be resubscribing
Frankly could do better !!

### 1/5 — App is really awful

*2020-09-04, version 2.1.0*

The magazine itself is really good but accessing the digital version is painful. As a yearly digital subscriber I find it almost impossible to access anything other than the blog. Why is it so difficult? Avoid the digital subscription option just buy the print version.

### 1/5 — Oldie

*2018-02-01, version 2.0.3*

I paid for 12 month subscription including the offline version and get asked to pay £2.99 but not every month. The magazine is good but it is no good when you are on holiday and you cannot download

### 1/5 — Oldie review

*2016-04-11, version 1.0.0*

Terrible app. No index, no ability to download latest issue. I cannot even find a method to cancel. As others have stated, yearly sub goes from April 2016 to April 2016. Please get it sorted and I will return.

### 1/5 — Purchased Annual fails

*2015-10-24, version 1.0.0*

Purchased the annual subscription but it now asks me to pay for every issue what gives. Take my money then only two issues. As per previous review subscription goes from 2015 to 2015.

### 1/5 — The Oldie

*2015-10-21, version 1.0.0*

Very pleased with the first issue of my annual subscription, debited from my account promptly. When I started to download October issue I found I was to be charged for each issue in addition to the yearly charge. Can't find a way round this. Has anyone else had the problem. My annual subs go from 2015-2015.

### 1/5 — Doesn't download in app purchase

*2015-08-29, version 1.0.0*

I have tried several times after paying to download. It sometimes stops at 85% and sometimes gets to 99% but then clears and when you load app, gives you the option to download again. Is this some gaming app?

### 2/5 — Can’t buy single copies

*2025-03-20, version 3.5*

I have used for about two years downloading single copies as I don’t want every copy
This option has now gone from the app and only offers a full years subscription
Very disappointing

### 2/5 — Hopeless

*2023-08-14, version 3.2*

Kinda fun stories but even tho I am the perfect demographic, I found them a bit on the fogey side.
The app layout is faux magazine as tho you are turning the pages, without the ease. No scrolling.
But the WORST thing about both the magazine and the app tho is the advertising, which is a solid line-up of stair lift, retirement living, mobility vehicles and will advice.

### 2/5 — Digital Disappointment

*2022-12-14, version 2.1.0*

I love The Oldie and have subscribed to the print edition for years.
Due to eyesight deterioration I have changed to digital copy. I access it on my iPad, however I cannot make the page bigger, the print is too small to read, I have to email the page to myself, when I am able to ‘pinch apart’ the page to make the text bigger. Is it me?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Review

*2024-09-11, version 3.4*

Simply the best Magazine on the planet

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2024-08-31, version 3.4*

Great read. Informative and mixed. None of the hype associated with the magazines/periodicals that think everyone is oversexed, overpaid, and lives a life in the fast lane.
And yes, I am one of those people who grew up in the 60,s, and I never thought I would think those words, but, hey ho, times have changed.

### 5/5 — Navigation to memories forgotten

*2022-08-09, version 2.1.0*

There are so many fond and fun memories evoked from a century now passed. Perhaps a penny for your thoughts with pre-decimalisation. A loosening of a stoic ‘stiff upper lip’, and understatement for which we were once famed. The pleasure of a postcard in its rearguard of pen and stamp to the instantaneous Social media.
Favourite jokes of Barry Cryer which raise a harmless smile. The warm glow of recollection by a passage well written in a different manner for a different time.
One is often enthused to share these passages of the past with those whose comprehension can enjoy their value.
Wether with a page of paper, a digital screen or an email newsletter joy is to be had.

### 5/5 — Great stuff

*2022-04-01, version 2.1.0*

Short, concise, humerus and always well written.
In this age of shoddy journalism you are a glimmer of hope.
Pity that your all oldsters.

### 5/5 — Great magazine.

*2020-02-22, version 2.1.0*

Great magazine.

### 5/5 — Eerfr

*2017-05-19, version 2.0.1*

No stars it is useless

### 5/5 — Millie

*2017-03-13, version 2.0.1*

It tells me all I need to know as well as being thoroughly entertaining. Hope Harry Mount keeps up the good work.

### 5/5 — Fantastic magazine

*2017-02-10*

This magazine is such a pleasure to read. Interesting articles and authors. Really like Mount's Latin. Always something to learn. Can't wait until the next issue comes out. Compliments from Canada.
The one problem with the updated app is the inability to retain the desired font size. Now you have to go to settings every time you want to read Oldie and adjust the size over and over again. A right nuisance I dare say. Please fix.

### 5/5 — great app.

*2016-08-30, version 2.0.0*

a pleasure to be able to read The Oldie from the other side of the world.

### 5/5 — The Oldie

*2016-07-25, version 2.0.0*

Excellent magazine, great intelligent content.
New issues pop up long before print copies available.
