## What is The Oregano Trail?

It is 1848. You have one wagon, five hopeful souls, and 2,040 miles of prairie, mountains, and rivers that would very much like to tip you over. Go west. Try not to die.

(Yes, like the spice. This trail is well-seasoned.)

THE OREGANO TRAIL is a loving throwback to the computer-lab classics of the early 1980s — the games you played on a humming beige machine while your teacher thought you were learning. Six-color pixel art, a chunky terminal font, square-wave beeps synthesized the old way, and gentle scanlines. No remaster gloss. The real look, on your phone.

YOUR CALLS, YOUR FUNERAL
• Pick your profession — the banker rides easy, the farmer earns triple the glory
• Outfit your wagon at the general store: oxen, food, clothing, ammunition, spare parts
• Set the pace and the rations — push too hard and the trail pushes back
• Twenty-two stops checked against 1848: take the Sublette Cutoff at South Pass, or choose your way at Three Island Crossing
• Ford the river, caulk and float, or pay the ferryman — choose wrong and pay dearly

THE TRAIL FIGHTS FAIR (BUT IT FIGHTS)
• Disease, snakebites, blizzards, hail, thieves, and broken axles — every setback is real and every one can be survived with the right supplies
• Warm clothing matters when the blizzard hits. Spare parts matter when the wheel goes. Skimp at the store and you'll feel it on the trail
• Mountains and forests slow the wagon. Plan around the terrain or fall behind the season

SHOOT STRAIGHT OR STARVE
• Hunt bison, deer, and rabbits in the sparse pixel woods
• Ammo is money and money is scarce — every shot counts

THE TRAIL PASS (ONE-TIME, OPTIONAL)
• Seasons: choose your start month and race the snow. Leave too early and the grass is thin; leave too late and December closes the passes
• Trading: barter with travelers on the trail and haggle at the forts
• The Hard Road: 1848 scoring by every survivor's health, steeper prices, and no early-trail mercy
• The Daily Trail: one shared trail a day, the same for every player. Ride it and compare scores

DIE HISTORICALLY
• Succumb to dysentery like your ancestors intended
• Every run ends on the trail or in the Willamette Valley — chase your best score in your Trail Records (kept on your phone)
• Game Center, if you use it: thirteen achievements and the leaderboards. Optional, and the game never asks
• Share your gravestone. It's what they would have wanted.
• Your graves stay on the trail. Later wagons pass them, epitaphs and all

HONEST RETRO
• Plays 100% offline — in a tunnel, on a plane, or in a covered wagon
• No ads, no accounts, no subscriptions. The full trail is free; the Trail Pass is a one-time extra for people who want it harder
• Anonymous play statistics help tune the trail — switch them off any time in Settings
• Auto-saves your journey; quit and pick up the trail later
• Works with VoiceOver and Voice Control; Quick Hunt lets anyone eat without aiming

No two runs end the same. Fresh dangers, fresh graves — reach the valley if you can.

### 5/5 — add more

*2026-10-02*

this game is AMAZING! but will there ever be a newer/longer version? i like how it works like old style without showing people, but can we add some like more action because i want to have a newly generated content. Because i know like all the lines, (exept trading) . Just add more action thats it. (ps i got trail pass) OK SO THATS IT AMAZING GAME JUST ADD MORE ACTION! 😃

**Developer response:** Thank you, and thanks for picking up the Trail Pass! More trail is on the way. Our next update is waiting on Apple's review right now. It adds the Daily Trail: a new trail every day, with its own weather, rivers, and strangers on the road, plus a streak to keep alive. It also brings Game Center, with thirteen achievements and two leaderboards. Pass holders recently got two dozen new trades and new season events too, so keep an eye out for those. We'll keep adding more.

### 5/5 — I am almost dead

*2026-09-25*

Your games have debilitated my biology or health you have gone to far your on thin ice and I shall be at the bottom when it breaks

**Developer response:** Thank you for playing and the 5-star review. Sorry about your dysentery though. Get well soon!

### 5/5 — Lots of fun

*2026-09-17*

Please make it longer! And please keep adding things🙏

**Developer response:** Thank you for the 5-star rating! I'll keep adding more along the way. If you have ideas for fun ways to improve the game, feel free to email me at mike@productparty.us!

### 3/5 — Not the same

*2026-08-07*

You skip so much and it so easy it’s like a one and done thing

**Developer response:** I'm sorry this free, ad-free game isn't hard enough for you. Thanks for the feedback.

### 1/5 — Not an accurate depiction.

*2026-08-01*

As an og Oregon Trail top ten scorer, this game fell well short of my standards. It was nothing like my experience on the trail, and my people kept dying with no dysentery. I completed the quest in less than two minutes, a time that gives no justice to the many months our ancestors foraged and risked their lives for a new beginning. Oregano Trail has dishonored their legacy and I will not tolerate another minute (which would’ve gotten me halfway). I am EXTREMELY disappointed and have spent more time writing this than I did completing the game.

**Developer response:** Sorry for your loss.

### 1/5 — Why…just why

*2026-07-28*

The original Oregon trail would actually show people walking to their next location and eating their food and stuff but then I play this and when you hit continue instantly next
Location i heated the game in ten seconds first try 5 out of 5 people survived with like full health

**Developer response:** A longer version is coming as soon as Apple review completes (which started last weekend). Hopefully you can play it again once the updates come and review again.

### 1/5 — Too short

*2026-07-27*

This game is so short i finished the game in ten seconds

**Developer response:** A longer version is coming as soon as Apple review completes (which started last weekend). Hopefully you can play it again once the updates come and review again.

### 4/5 — Get ready for 3 minutes of ok-ish fun

*2026-07-24*

I haven’t played a game so short and I used to LOVE the Oregon trail as a kid

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! We are waiting on Apple to approve the longer version of the game. Hopefully coming in the next few days.

### 5/5 — Fun Game

*2026-07-24*

Like the one I remember on DOS. I like it so far. No ads.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback! More content coming soon!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.0 — 2026-10-18

A longer trail. The road west now has 22 stops, checked against 1848: Ash Hollow, Courthouse Rock, the Green River ferry, Farewell Bend, the Grande Ronde Valley and a crossing of the Deschutes. Take the Sublette Cutoff at South Pass, or choose your way at Three Island Crossing. Graves from your earlier runs now mark the trail, with your own epitaphs. The game works with VoiceOver and Voice Control, and Quick Hunt lets anyone eat without aiming. Trail decisions cost more, the Hard Road is fairer, and bankers start better outfitted. Rumor has it there's an old sign at Fort Bridger.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-07

Game Center is on the trail: thirteen achievements and two leaderboards, best score and the Hard Road, for anyone signed in. Not signed in? Nothing changes and the game never asks. Reduce Motion is respected, low supplies now say so in words, and every wagon gets the whole free trail from the first launch: the gentler Greenhorn Trail, fourteen decisions on the road, and rest as long as you like at any stop.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-26

The trail got harder, and for the first time there is more of it. Rest as many days as you like at any stop. Then, if you want it rougher, the Trail Pass is a one-time extra: pick your start month and race the snow to Oregon, trade with travelers and at the forts, and take the Hard Road with 1848 scoring. The free trail stays free, and stays the whole trail.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-11

The trail just got longer, and a little meaner.

- Classic journey is now the default: seven-day turns, every landmark a stop, and you watch the wagon cover the miles
- Rations count per person per day, so a hungry party is a real problem
- As in 1848, when the party leader dies, the journey is over
- New Trail Records page keeps your runs, wins, and a graveyard of everyone you lost
- The general store keyboard finally lets you leave
- Anonymous play stats help tune the balance; switch them off any time in Settings

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-05

- The whole trail, not just the plains — your wagon now stops at all 16 landmarks, from Chimney Rock to the Blue Mountains, with a route tracker showing how far Oregon really is
- Professions matter — carpenters repair wagon breakdowns, farmers dress +25% meat from every kill; pick EASY, MEDIUM, or HARD
- Hunting takes real aim — smaller targets, faster animals, and a muzzle-loader that needs reloading; gunfire spooks the survivors
- Starvation kills now — an empty wagon means dead pioneers in weeks, even in camp; hunt or perish
- Classic mode — an optional longer journey with slower miles per turn, in Settings
- Rivers got honest — no more waiting out a guaranteed safe crossing, and fort prices now climb the farther west you go (Fort Hall's smithy is the exception)
- Share your fate — tombstone and victory cards now name your route and carry a download link
