Thanks ### 2/5 — Daily Essentials *2025-08-19, version 6.1.1* Young or old, we are better for having professional journalists and critics keep us fully informed. TV is mostly crime and disaster headlines. The Oregonian gives us sports, easy to read comics, personal problem coaching, political news, and other practical guidelines. Local, state, regional and national news is delivered early each morning in impressively well written form. Obits, entertainment highlights and personal stories too. That’s a lot for the monthly amount charged. I’m glad we have the option of four days a week delivery. My wife and I often cut out articles for sharing or reading later. And no, I have no personal or professional connection to the paper. I am just a grateful reader. ### 2/5 — Extreme liberal bias *2025-08-02, version 6.1.1* Very unbalanced coverage of national politics and the national news because of reliance on WAPO, NYT, LAT, Politico, etc. Local and state reporting seething with woke-ism (pronouns, etc.). Only keep the subscription for the crossword puzzles. ### 2/5 — App fails to maintain state *2025-04-17, version 6.0.0* The iPad can go to sleep and when it wakes up the app has closed down. Relaunch and I wait and wait for it to reload and display today’s paper so I can reopen it. Frequently get a spinner and need to kill and restart the app to get it to reload the paper. Basic app 101 stuff to cache the last thing I was reading when iOS signals the app it is sleeping/closing and display where I was when it opens again. ### 2/5 — Wood stoves *2025-03-10, version 6.0.0* The Oregonian has gone way too liberal in their reporting. For example yor article on wood burning was purely from the perspective of Oregon’s DEQ, a very liberal organization. We would like to see articles that give multi points of view not just the liberal or woke point. It seems like most things are written with too much of a liberal stance. I would like to see more items written with an equal liberal/conservative slant. Also, it would be nice to see a return of Spider-Man to the comics. Spider-Man was dropped several years ago but with the world wide popularity of superheros (movies, books, comic books) it would be great to see him reappear in the Oregonian. ### 2/5 — Oregonian on line *2025-02-09, version 6.0.0* Not an improvement, waste of your time. The previous version was organized and read more true to the analog version delivered to our address. ### 2/5 — A big “NO” to the new format *2025-02-01* This new format makes it twice as hard to find what you want to see! The extra In-depth is OK but try finding the television listings! You no longer even have the channel numbers listed. The Home section on Wednesdays doesn’t have the number of recipes as the old format. I don’t like to have to flip through each article on a page, even the comics are one strip per page, and if you want to enlarge something this new format will not let you do so. I have been a subscriber for many years as were my family before me, but now this new format makes me wonder if it is worth subscribing to anymore. ### 3/5 — New format! *2025-01-31, version 6.0.0* Somewhat confusing. Previous format was easier to use and find wanted sections. Print tiny. Difficult and time consuming to navigate. Have been subscriber for nearly 50 years. Change for good is OK, but this isn’t OK. ### 2/5 — Oregonian app *2025-01-28, version 6.0.0* The new Oregonian app, and the changes to the newspaper, have greatly affected its use on mobile devices. My iPad no longer pinches to shrink the font size so I am stuck with the larger font size. I then must scroll around to see the entire page. You have filled it with duplicate sports and comics just to make it feel like more. You have eliminated the national business section which we all have interest in. I am about to cancel subscription because of all of this after 30 plus years. Also missing previous days scores and many times it doesn’t show up until 2 days later ### 1/5 — Disgusted *2025-03-01, version 6.0.0* Lousy ability to pull up stories or even scan pages on my iPhone. Frequently dumps me out. And now, no clear way to even send this review. ### 1/5 — Stuck *2025-02-26* The latest version was pretty good until it REALLY wasn’t. In today’s edition I am stuck in the individual article mode. I was in that mode, reading an article in the sort of pop up window, when I had to step away from my iPad for several minutes. I returned to find that the app had timed out, forcing me to tap the icon to get back into the app. It was still in the single article mode! That seemed like a nice feature, except the Nav button in the upper left is Home, not Back, and Home takes me out to the opening app page, not to this day’s edition. Other than swiping left through EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE in today’s edition, I have no way to read today’s paper in the app. I’ve tried restarting the app, going to a different day’s edition and back to today, and logging out of the app, but nothing gets me out of article mode for today. The only other thing I can think of is to delete the app and reinstall, but I’m sick of doing that for so many apps that have serious bugs. ### 1/5 — It is terrible *2025-02-16, version 6.0.0* Thinking about cancelling my subscription. That’s a positive. I switched to the electronic paper due to the continuously reduced number of printed paper days, and soaring prices. It made sense to get all the papers in one place. As long as I got everything that was in the printed editions, I was happy. But with this latest change, I can’t find the main collection of Sunday comics that were in the print paper and the supplements before. That makes me very disappointed. I’m not going out to a different site to look at a listing of comic names in a TOC to try to find my 20 or so favorites. That’s ridiculous. I want to open one app and my one paper (with a supplement or two), and catch up on the news and comics over a meal. Reading the paper is not supposed to be a research project. Bring back the Sunday comics to the electronic newspaper…please. **Developer response:** Sunday Comics are still part of the edition and now included each Sunday as part of the edition.
