## What is The Painting Ledger?

The Painting Ledger is the only Warhammer app that builds personalised painting schemes from the paints you actually own, not generic guides that assume you have everything.

Track your collection, manage your armies, run your games, and paint better. All in one place.

MINIATURE BACKLOG
Add any unit with a barcode scan or search across 1,400+ units from all four game systems. Track every kit from Backlog to In Progress to Done. Watch the pile of shame shrink.

SCHEME JOURNAL
Ever forget that scheme you used a few years ago but need it now? Use the Scheme Journal to log and share your scheme's and never forget how you painted something again!

PAINT ARSENAL
Log your entire paint collection with live colour swatches, stock level alerts, and cross-brand equivalents. Scan a barcode and it fills itself in. Never buy a duplicate pot again.

LIVE GAME MODULE
Open this when you sit down opposite your opponent. Track VP, Command Points, phases, and secondary mission cards in real time across Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar, Horus Heresy, and The Old World. Generates a full shareable battle report when the game ends.

LIST BUILDER
Build and manage named armies from a 1,400+ unit catalogue. Track points, painted readiness, and roster composition. Deploy your army list directly to a live game with one tap.

SCHEME ADVISOR (Pro)
Describe your miniature and style. Get a complete step-by-step painting guide built from the paints on your actual shelf, with a shopping list for anything you're missing.

RESEARCH
Search any faction and get paint recipes from 'Eavy Archive, real YouTube tutorials, and community guides all in one result.

Free to start. Pro unlocks the Scheme Advisor, unlimited research, and commission tracking at $9.99 CAD/month.

### 5/5 — Some bugs but otherwise great

*2026-07-06*

Definitely an amazing app especially if you struggle with a pile of shame, however the “models awaiting paint” feature does not work for me at all, very minor issue and a great app very highly recommend paying for all the features. Outstanding!

### 5/5 — Fantastic organizer

*2026-05-26*

If you struggle with a backlog of models or trying to keep a pace with painting, this is a great tool. Catalog your paint colors, track the amounts you have for future purchases, plan model projects, record paint schemes, track and compete with a hobby leaderboard, and all towards organizing your hobby workflow. It database of paints and models is created by the community of users, so what you scan or what you manually enter will help and be used by future users as well. Simple design and weirdly addictive with the achievements you can collect. I’ve increased my hobby output by a lot with this.

**Developer response:** I really appreciate your review. I am also incredibly happy that you find it helpful. I try to remind myself that I built the app I WANTED, so when people find its helping them too it feels like validation. I'm excited to see your schemes and progress. Go play some games!

### 1/5 — App Is A Mess

*2026-05-23*

The app barely works. The barcode scanner definitely does not work at all. I tried scanning both individual paint bottles and even the paint boxes themselves, and every single time it just redirects me to the generic manual entry screen to type everything in myself. That completely defeats the purpose of why I downloaded the app in the first place. I own the full Army Painter range, and I am absolutely not going to manually enter every single paint one by one.

On top of that, the Pro upgrade appears broken too. I paid to upgrade, but every time I try to use a Pro feature it just sends me back to the upgrade screen again. Then when I try upgrading again, it says I already own Pro. So I paid for features I still can’t access.

The entire app feels unfinished and nonfunctional.

(Review Update: Update: The developer responded acting like my review was somehow unfair or just “bad timing,” so I reinstalled the app and tested everything again, since I still had an active Pro subscription for the month. The exact same issues are still there.

The paid Pro features STILL do not work. Scheme Vault, Scheme Journal, and Scheme Advisor all redirect me to the “Upgrade to Pro” screen. Then when I click upgrade, the app tells me I am already subscribed to Pro. So ye, charging people money for features they literally cannot access is absolutely what I would call a messy app.

The paint scanner is also still broken in multiple areas. Some paints scan now, so clearly something changed. Army Painter Speedpaints are scanning correctly, but Many regular Army Painter (I have the Army Painter Wargamers Complete Set) acrylics either do not scan at all or all come up as “The Glottkin.” If your core feature is cataloging paints through scanning, that is a major problem.

I do not care whether this is a solo developer project or not. The moment you start charging money for premium features, people are allowed to judge the app as a paid product. “I’m only one developer” stops being a defense when the paid features still don’t function.)

**Developer response:** Hey there. Building an app by myself is hard and there is always something I'm trying to improve. I am fairly certain (and I suppose it's my bad luck) that you tried out the app and left a review on a day something was broken. I am sorry for that. I can say I also own a lot of Army Painter paints and just did a few test scans and everything is working fine. In terms of the boxes, this is a MAJOR gap only because I have to ask all the manufacturers to send me the UPC's for their box sets AND the contents in those sets. I've reached out to every manufacturer I support, some have been helpful, others have not. I am at their mercy. I am doing what I can am ALWAYS available and open for feedback. I don't think the "app is a mess" and I am sad to see that as the title here. Anyways. Thanks for the comment.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.0 — 2026-08-23

Version 1.6.0 Update

Two new databases land in the app. Look up any unit's datasheet or warscroll stats, filtered by game system and faction, and search over 2,500 paints with cross-brand equivalents both from the More tab. You can now share a paint scheme journal straight from your phone with a public link, and each scheme has its own public/private switch. Plus fixes for share links and for the keyboard covering your notes while you type.

### 1.5.3 — 2026-08-03

The Painting Ledger v1.5.3

New

Sort your paint arsenal by colour. A new Brand / Colour toggle displays your paints as a continuous rainbow (ordered by hue → saturation → lightness), with neutral greys grouped at the end. Your choice is remembered between sessions.

Improvements

Cleaner paint type filter. The legacy "Marker" paint type has been merged into "Paint Marker," so filtering by type is now consistent everywhere.

Fixes

Keyboard & input handling
Points editor no longer hidden by the keyboard. In the unit detail sheet, the on-screen keyboard used to cover the "Your Points" override field and Save button. The sheet now scrolls clear of the keyboard.
Gallery search is more responsive. Tapping a search result while the keyboard is open now opens the result directly instead of just dismissing the keyboard.
Scheme Journal inputs stay above the keyboard. Opening a phase and tapping the "Add paint from arsenal…" or Notes field now scrolls it clear of the on-screen keyboard. You can also swipe down to dismiss the keyboard.

### 1.5.2 — 2026-06-25

Version 1.5.2 Update
New features

Warhammer 40K 11th Edition live game enabled in the Live Game wizard and set as the new default game system (replaces 10th as the landing default). Includes expanded 11th-ed data: detachments for all 39 factions, full primary/secondary mission decks, and table-layout maps.
Cuttlefish Colors paint line added to the paint database.
Improvements & fixes

Box scan grouping - scanning a box now creates a single grouped box entry in your collection instead of dropping units in individually/ungrouped, and lets you choose the starting status (Backlog / WIP / Done) when adding.
Unit painting roll-up - a unit's status now derives from its models (all painted → Done, any progress → WIP, demotes from Done if no longer complete), so dashboard, ledger, public profile, and shared collections stay accurate.
Redeem Achievement modal - keyboard no longer obscures the code entry field (added keyboard-avoiding behavior).
"Coming soon" labels now styled in gold for better visibility.
Behind the scenes

Added EAS Update (OTA) support, enabling JS-only fixes to ship without a full store release.

### 1.5.1 — 2026-06-10

Version 1.5.1 Update
- Achievements are now visible in the app (under More) along with the ability to redeem a code for a custom or secret achievement.
- We're getting ready for Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition! Placeholders for the live game setup are in. Full features coming the week after launch.
- A few minor bug/display fixes

### 1.4.3 — 2026-05-25

Version 1.4.3 Update
Update to Army Builder to ensure points are properly shown and the stat line modal appears when a unit is selected.
