## What is The Porcupine?

The Porcupine is a vertical news feed for people who think prices are information, not ideology.

Most news apps optimise for outrage velocity or bland wire copy. The Porcupine runs every story through the same three questions:

1. Who gains power?
2. Who pays later?
3. Can citizens exit?

That is the frame. You still get the headline, the summary and a link to the original publisher - but you also get a line that says plainly what the story does to power, cost and exit.

WHAT'S IN IT

- Feed - full-screen cards you swipe through, one story at a time. No infinite grid, no algorithmic slot machine.
- Waste - a standing desk for public money badly spent. One recent item for each region you follow, refreshed on pull-down.
- Live counters - national debt, budget deficit, CPI and net lending/borrowing as a share of GDP, so the backdrop to every story is a number rather than a mood.
- Topics - Housing, Waste, Energy, Speech, Money, Markets, Tax, Trade, Defence. Pick the beats you care about; the app remembers.
- Saved - star or double-tap a card to keep it. Share one, or share the whole shortlist.
- Reader controls - light and dark themes, three article text sizes.

HOW IT TREATS SOURCES

The Porcupine shows the headline, a short summary and a link back to the original publisher. The framing is ours and is clearly marked as ours. It is an editorial reader, not a substitute for the publications it points at, and it is not investment advice.

WHAT IT DOESN'T DO

No account. No sign-up. No profile. Your topics, saved cards and reading preferences stay on your device - there is no server holding them and nothing to sell. The app talks to the network to fetch feeds and to check for updates, and that is the whole of it.

Named for the libertarian porcupine: defensive quills, no apology for markets or open speech, and no interest in treading on anyone.
