## What is The Quest?

An expansion by Zarista Games.

The Quest - Celtic Rift is an expansion to The Quest, a beautifully hand-drawn open world role playing game with old school grid-based movement and turn based combat.

After enabling the expansion, you can explore new areas and adventures. However, if you don't have The Quest, you can also play the expansion as a standalone game.

You've received a letter from King Mersant bidding you travel urgently to the Islands of Lubdan in the far away country of Loegria. When you land, you find out who really summoned you there. Be ready for adventure. You could easily die, so keep extra save files!

To access the new areas (not applicable if you are playing the expansion standalone), go to Matras harbor and talk to captain Verra, then select "Celtic Rift" as your travel destination. It's recommended you reach at least level 15 before taking on the challenges posed by this expansion.

### 5/5 — Fun expansion

*2026-07-17*

You get a bit overloaded with quests at the beginning, but overall the expansion is very fun. I had to follow a written guide to beat some of the quests.

### 1/5 — Aburrida, aburrida, aburrida,....

*2019-07-18*

### 4/5 — Enjoyable but could use some refinement

*2018-03-10*

I’m an avid lover of ‘The Quest’ having played and completed the main game and the ‘Fire and Ice’ expansions. After running out of quests to do I turned my sights to this expansion with some curiosity to how a third party expansion would play out with the full game and a high level character. I haven’t yet completed my first run of this expansion but I believe I’ve experienced enough to make a fair review.

While there is an abundance of content in such a small area the fact you are given all of the quests you could possibly get at once makes things rather confusing and well hard to really manage. (I don’t know if this is due to being over levelled as some recommend to play this at a low level). Many quests pertaining to the main objective quest are required to be completed before you try others and when you are doing this blind and picking up many quests at once it becomes rather hard to make progress playing completely blind.

I believe the expansion also is kinda unbalanced and I highly recommend playing it after completing all official Redshift content as the sheer power of items and spells you can get as well and all the gold you get makes it almost hard to not be able to make your character so over powered that you could ruin the experience of the main game should try this before completing ‘The Quest’. Some enemies and their attacks are pretty powerful if you don’t pay attention to your health but you find so many potions of full health/mana that you kinda loose the challenge of fighting which is a little sad as some of the most sweat inducing moments of the game when I was levelling was bravely trying to kill ogres while trying so hard not to get paralysed and die in two hits.

However despite these flaws there is some enjoyable story and fun exploration and the fun with finding all the hidden items and whatnot I do feel that some quests could be clearer in the journal but tbh there are many that give you more direction than the main games and I do enjoy the level of care and effort that the developer puts into the game along with helping players who get a little lost.

While I’m not sure if this was the first or fifth expansion by this developer I do look forward to playing more content although I’ll probably need to see which are more geared to an end game character such as the one I’m playing.

I do recommend playing this expansion but maybe on its own or after completing the official game content by redshift so not to ruin the first time experience as the challenge they offer is only something you can enjoy blind.

### 2/5 — Confusing and Frustrating

*2017-08-14*

Definitely not the same quality as the Redshift developed games. The story is confusing and most of the quests are not logical or clear as to the resolution. The lower class NPCs are encountered later in the game and the game is not challenging as a continuation from the originals.

Getting to some locations is also confusing and not logical as to progression. Generally getting around is cumbersome. Many houses are blocked and only have one way in, requiring many unnecessary steps.

I have lots of quests on my books that don't seem to relate to each other. My advice to new players: mark any area that looks important as getting back can otherwise be a chore.

Overall, not a very satisfying experience.
