### 3/5 — Not what it used to be

*2025-11-06, version 8.5.4*

I miss what the R-G used to be. Now most of the “news” is 2 days old and I’ve seen it elsewhere before I read it on our paper. I only keep it for the local obituaries. I really miss the birth announcements, marriage license applications, divorces, bankruptcies, etc.

### 2/5 — Newspaper no more

*2025-08-23, version 8.1.0*

It is unacceptable what has happened to the Register Guard news paper!
Having information repeat over several additions and “upcoming” events reported after the fact is a disservice to the area and those who look to be informed.
Today’s e-newspaper addition was missing the front page and began on page A2. It should be called an AD PAPER, the recurring full page and half page ads seem to dominate our once loved and respected local news paper.

### 2/5 — Too much Sports

*2025-07-20, version 8.1.0*

I wish there were more pages dedicated to news, and less to sports!

### 3/5 — The software is very good, the content is pretty good.

*2025-06-28, version 8.1.0*

I feel it’s important to support local news, so we have a subscription, the paper itself though is not so great. There are misspellings, repeat sentences and occasionally repeat paragraphs. The news is often old and sometimes you even talk about upcoming events that have already happened. Letters to the editor are important, but missing. The sports section is probably good, but not everyone cares about sports. The comics are great!

### 2/5 — Not able to access eNewspaper on iPad

*2025-04-01, version 7.11.2*

There’s a table at the bottom of the screen to access the eNewspaper version of the Register-Guard, but when pressed, it lights up but nothing opens. No news is not good news.

### 4/5 — I like lastest version of e-Newspaper

*2025-03-30, version 8.1.0*

I like how the lastest version reads clearer. I don’t do crossword or other puzzles, so can’t give opinion of that feature. Content still disappoints me with no Op-ed or letters to the Editor. I dislike needing to enter email and password every few days- gives less time to read won days when I’m busy.

### 2/5 — Worst app I have experienced for a product I have purchased

*2025-03-19, version 8.1.0*

This RG app has always been glitchy and since USA TODAY acquired the newspaper, it has got only worse. Pop up advertisements are not stop and it jumps from single to double screens if you blink at it. It’s bad enough that the news is 3 days old, now the incessant ads darken your screen until you tap the little ‘x’ to delete them.

### 4/5 — Like lastest version of e-Newspaper

*2025-03-06*

I like how the lastest version reads clearer. I don’t do crossword or other puzzles, so can’t give opinion of that feature. Content still disappoints me with no Op-ed or letters to the Editor.

### 2/5 — New app

*2025-02-21, version 8.0.1*

Does not work well. Will not focus quickly or at all page to page. Seems to think it can decide what you want to read and show you that first. Will not turn and adjust when you turn your phone sideways. I think they have work to do on it.

### 1/5 — Terrible-give me my original app back

*2025-02-19, version 8.0.1*

Awful

### 3/5 — Combine the Salem Statesman & Eugene RG

*2025-02-15, version 8.0.1*

The two struggling Gannett publications should be combined into one publication. It is my understanding the Salem office now oversees the couple Eugene reporter’s. Salem has a slightly more reporters than Eugene.

I’ve subscribed to both for the last year. Having both, I knew most of the news in the Willamette valley. Many news stories were in both publications and just a few that were local to the each publication.

I’d recommend combining both publications into one, The Willamette Valley News. I think, if they combined two together, they wouldn’t loose subscribers and they would have a paper that would potentially draw Oregonian subscribers.

I’ve dropped the Salem Statesman because it seems redundant to subscribe to two papers that have the a lot of same news articles.

### 1/5 — What did you do?

*2025-02-14*

I’m over 70 years old and have been reading newspapers since I was in high school. I was okay when I went paperless and started reading the paper on my phone. But now I can’t get to the newspapers anymore because you changed your format. You don’t have comics or dear abby and I can’t find anything. So are you newspapers cutting off the news to your older readers? I don’t like this.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-09-17, version 8.5.0*

Don’t subscribe

### 1/5 — E editions do not work

*2025-03-27, version 8.1.0*

The older app worked. This one does not

### 1/5 — Missing the old version

*2025-03-27, version 8.1.0*

The app does not read or flow like the previous version. It doesn’t feel like I am reading a newspaper anymore. I am not sure how long I will continue reading it.

### 1/5 — It Doesn’t work!!!

*2025-03-20, version 7.6.1*

App does not work,

### 1/5 — This app is garbage

*2025-03-15, version 8.1.0*

Forced to use this app when the old one was discontinued. So frustrated. The e-newspaper worked for a week, now it fails to load everyday. Not all RG articles are available in other section of the app, so I can’t access the RG content I’m paying for. Submitted feedback using the app’s support feature a week ago, received no response and nothing changed. Considering ending my subscription after more than 10 years of electronic subscription.

### 1/5 — Never ending problems

*2025-03-15, version 8.1.0*

Now I can’t open the eNewspaper on my iPad. Everything’s update. Subscriptions all paid.

### 1/5 — This app is garbage

*2025-03-11*

Forced to use this app when the old one was discontinued. So frustrated. This one is buggy and unstable. The e-newspaper fails to load regularly, and not all RG articles are available in other section of the app. Thus, I can’t access the RG content I’m paying for. Considering ending my subscription after more than 15 years of electronic subscription.

### 1/5 — Incompetent Techs

*2025-02-23, version 8.0.1*

Worst app I have ever seen

### 1/5 — Not very good

*2025-02-22, version 8.0.1*

This app is difficult to use, ut now has a spilt screen that I didn’t ask for…

Can I go back to the original app?

### 1/5 — Old app was better

*2025-02-20, version 8.0.1*

I totally wish I hadn’t changed from the old app to the new. It was much easier to read than the new app is. I can only view the lower half of the right hand screen in the swipe mode and nothing I do changes that. A frustrating reading experience.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very fine local newspaper

*2025-04-10, version 8.1.0*

A lot of good local stories and world class photography. But I wish they’d bring back the old letters to the editor section so community members could share concerns

### 5/5 — Problem free

*2025-02-25, version 8.0.1*

Works good. Just wish there’d be a heads up before it changed to a different app, once again.

### 5/5 — What did you do?

*2025-02-22, version 8.0.1*

I’m over 70 years old and have been reading newspapers since I was in high school. I was okay when I went paperless and started reading the paper on my phone. But now I can’t get to the newspapers anymore because you changed your format. You don’t have comics or dear abby and I can’t find anything. So are you newspapers cutting off the news to your older readers? I don’t like this.Guess what. I get my newspaper back. Thank you so much.

### 5/5 — Local news

*2024-01-18, version 7.5.1*

Works well for local news.

### 5/5 — God App

*2022-10-06*

This is my morning newspaper and aside from the initial getting signed in and a million “I’m not a robot” roadblocks, it recognizes me without any problems and functions as it should.

### 4/5 — Usually always Great

*2026-03-19, version 8.9.0*

Works good. Every once awhile, there is a glitch whereas I am unable to open a particular page.

Wish all of Lane County sports team were covered.

### 4/5 — Usually always Gre

*2025-08-28, version 8.1.0*

Works good. Every once awhile, there is a glitch whereas I am unable to open a particular page.

### 4/5 — My opinion

*2025-06-26, version 8.1.0*

The Register does a decent job covering the very biggest local stories but after that, nothing. Bucketloads of local sports but way short on news. Also many stories are repetitive one day to the next and many are simply duplicates of USA Today.
I believe in local papers, emphasis on local.

### 4/5 — Great app! Editing still needs attention…

*2025-05-26, version 8.1.0*

We’re enjoying the new app, and appreciate the local news. Note though in sports reporting, for example, that our University of Oregon is abbreviated “UO”, not OU. Ohio? Especially not in a headline.

### 4/5 — Pricey Subscription

*2025-05-20, version 8.1.0*

R-G subscription costs far more than the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and The Economist. But it is where we get our local news (ignoring the USA Today fillers), and we want the crossword puzzles. So we continue to overpay.
