I absolutely LOVED this game. The music by GammaHammer is wonderful, and the core gameplay is unique and engaging in the was all classics are. This is especially true right at the start when you have to rely on the default staff attack. The delay on your attack, the delay on the enemy’s attack, the fact that you have be standing on the ground to use it, and the area of effect all make it feel like solving a rewarding puzzle every time you defeat an enemy. It is hard to make sidescroller combat strategic, but FrodoUndead succeeded. The gameplay evolves as you unlock new attacks and stays engaging until the end. The difficulty level in the main story was perfect. The level design and visual style were also great. A lot of good design decisions came together to make a very memorable game which undoubtedly would’ve been a timeless classic if it had been released on the SNES.
