## What is The Rotation. Watch Collection?

Measure a mechanical watch's accuracy with the iPhone's microphone, keep your collection on record, and log what you wear.
The Rotation keeps one accurate record of a watch collection: references, serial numbers, photographs, what was paid, what it is worth, when it was serviced, and every day it spent on the wrist. The record a claim or an executor asks for, kept properly, and kept to yourself.
THE REGISTER
File a watch from its photograph or by hand. Serial numbers stay in the register and never appear on a card. A daily wear log answers the question a collection quietly asks — what actually gets worn, and what has not left the drawer since spring. A wishlist keeps the watches you are hunting, in your order, with money put by towards the next.
THE TIMEGRAPHER
The phone's microphone is an instrument. Hold a mechanical watch to it and the app reads its rate in seconds a day, its beat error, and its beat rate, then files the reading against that watch. It settles on an answer or it refuses; it will not report a rate it cannot hear. Readings build a bench record over time. A guided compass check of about thirty seconds says whether a watch is magnetised.
THE OBSERVATORY
Your collection ranked at the bench, as the observatories once ranked them, on the median of each watch's last three readings. Mark a watch against the clock over days and the register charts its drift against COSC, METAS, or its own order of accuracy.
THE ROTATION REPORT
A monthly account of the collection, set like a page rather than a dashboard: what you wore, what stayed in the box, what moved in value, and what falls due. Nothing is sent to you. It waits.
THE REGISTRAR
An assistant that answers about your own register and nothing else, and that can file a watch, log a day's wear or record a service when you ask it to. It proposes; you confirm. Identification from a photograph proposes a reference and says how sure it is, and declines when the evidence does not support one.
WHAT IT IS NOT
It is not a marketplace. Nothing is listed, nothing is brokered, no commission exists, and we earn nothing when you buy or sell a watch.
It is not an authentication service. Identification proposes a reference; it never certifies that a watch is genuine.
It is not a valuation service. A value in your register is an estimate: your own, or one the Registrar proposes from public prices for you to accept or change. Nothing here is an appraisal, an insurance valuation, or financial advice.
PRIVACY
Your register is yours. It is not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not used to train anything. There are no adverts and no trackers. Audio from the bench is analysed on the device. A take you choose to keep is filed with the reading, so the watch can be heard again from its record. Reading and exporting your register stay free for as long as you keep it, whether or not your membership is current.
Membership pays for what costs us something to run: the Registrar, identification, and the copy of your register that follows you between devices.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.1 — 2026-10-04

The Observatory, gone over from the microphone to the record.

The bench reads tick and tock as two lines, so the beat error comes from every beat it hears and a faint watch's rate settles more surely.
When the watch leaves the microphone its figures leave with it; the room's own noise no longer brings them back.
Stop keeps the reading on the page, with the six positions beneath it, so you can name how the watch was lying before you save it.
A beat error the bench cannot read is no longer shown as zero.
A long test samples on the minute from its first full minute, so a steady watch no longer shows a drift it does not have. A run under half an hour files the rate it ended on, and a run with nothing to file says so.
The tape climbs for a gaining watch, as a timegrapher's does.
A reading's record can be opened while the bench listens; its voices wait until the run ends.
The compass: the room, the gauge and the record agree on whether a watch is magnetised, and the sweep no longer takes a phone held still for one that moved.
Analytics and the Observatory stand on the register's own ground, light and dark.
Smaller corrections throughout.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-01

The register, read against Apple's own guidelines and made easier to hold, to hear and to trust.

Before the Eye, the Registrar or the importer reads anything, the app asks your permission, in the web's own words, and Account lets you withdraw it.
The Day's Question on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen, with the pieces you wear most one tap away, and an On the wrist control.
Siri and Shortcuts: log the day's watch, ask what is on the wrist, or which piece has rested longest.
A long test keeps listening with the phone locked, shown on the Lock Screen with one Stop.
A reading can be set aside, and restored, on every device.
Each watch opens as a record page; the form keeps the purchase date, the warranty, the service interval and the maker's link in the open.
A quieter Collection: one menu for its order, the day's question in a single line, and bringing a collection in from Account.
Analytics opens on the moon phase: the classic window, turned to the true moon, with the next quarter and its date beneath it.
Search the collection by brand, model, reference or calibre.
Manage or cancel your membership from Account, with its plan and date.
Better with VoiceOver, larger text, Bold Text and Increase Contrast throughout.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-09-25

A photograph you already have can begin a watch again. Choose one at the start of Add a watch or Add to the wishlist, and the app reads the dial as it does from the camera.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-09-24

A first membership now begins with seven days free. The till says so before anything is paid, and Apple takes nothing until the seven days end.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-22

Sign in with Apple and Continue with Google stand at the door beside email. Either opens your register, or begins one.

Add a watch by photograph. The app reads the dial and asks one question: is this the watch?

The compass guides one step at a time and shows the field it reads, in microtesla, as it reads it.

The rooms hold at every text size. The till leads with Restore when your Apple ID already holds a membership. Smaller corrections throughout.
